Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
Norwich may well have been the straw but it's rare that breaks and you wait another five days to do the deed.
Maybe Pace was just checking legalities out against his new contract (perhaps there are clauses based on performance and what not, who knows) with professionals before speaking to Dyche.

Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
The timing was very strange as has been said. The club however did grant him "a lot of time" in reward for some incredible achievements. I am sure Sean now has time to reflect on things. One thing BFC gave him was an incredible tenure, and he was allowed to become Mr Burnley. He will know, just like he experienced at the previous Watford job, that a new club and chairman will have him out quickly (a) if the quality of football is not good and (b) if the results are not going his way. He will also be vastly more accountable for himself and the coaches he employs
Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
From the transcript I’ve just read on lancslive (god that website is unusable) it just affirms my thoughts about Dyche. A decent man. It looks like the time was right for a change but that doesn’t take away any of his amazing achievements

Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
The various rumours doing the rounds at the time are all things which if true paint Sean in a poor light so he won’t be addressing them in an interview. Rows with certain players, talking to other clubs, that sort of thing. None of which we know as fact, nor will we.
It feels to me that something happened though. Pace seemed reluctant to make the change, hence the timing, and credit to him for that. Only he knows why he finally did it. Logically though, with Sean admitting the edge had gone, we wouldn’t have had 10 points in recent games had he stayed, so even if we go down, it was the right decision.

Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
It probably took 4 or 5 days to come up with the decision, Pace probably changed his mind numerous times. It was a huge decision and I think Dyche seems to agree with the decision.Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 3:22 pmOne point that sticks out for me that i don't and didn't understand, and Sean says similar, is that if it was down to results and the Norwich defeat in particular, why wait until the following Friday? Only read the summary in the local press site but nothing there really that surprises me.

A new club/chairman may also be willing to give him time to build the club up like he did here, he's proven in that respect and not many managers are nowadayswarksclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 3:33 pmThe timing was very strange as has been said. You haven’t read and heard the same as I have.Conroy92 wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 2:43 pmFor a man who spoke about wanting the right characters, the whole exercise with writing down the "bad eggs" on bits of paper and the whole togetherness environment, to hear him say that a third of the squad were happy he was leaving is evidence enough he'd lost a big part of the dressing room.

Have to say, I thought there was more to it. Seems not.
Classy interview, just like Dyche.

Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
Whether Sean Dyche felt the edge had gone or otherwise is hard to gauge.
Having seen the bounce he could hardly turnaround and suggest it was just and bounce and wouldn't last. That would make him sound disloyal and churlish.
When you leave a company you just say what you have to say to move on. What you really think is irrelevant because it's too late anyway.
I think the 5 days was probably a consequence of it being relatively unplanned and it needing a few days to consult the lawyers, rest of the board etc.
I also think Dyche probably now recognises that the pressure on the whole group was affecting performances; particularly, against Norwich and Brentford. And against Leeds and Newcastle earlier in the season - it has been a pattern.
On the other hand, the performance against Villa looked like very undisciplined and the goals were shockingly bad with Villa players free all over the pitch.
And we go to Tottenham on Sunday possibly without our two recognised centre backs. The story and narrative could change dramatically if we play against Spurs like we did against Villa.
The twists and turns of this season have 3 more games to unfold.

Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
To be fair Burnley never gave him time to build up the club because he was pretty much an instant success and built the club whilst constantly over achieving. He was never really in any trouble until around Christmas of the European season and by that time he'd earned the trust and confidence to be the man to turn things around.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 3:59 pmA new club/chairman may also be willing to give him time to build the club up like he did here, he's proven in that respect and not many managers are nowadays
You could argue we could have sacked him after the first relegation but such was his achievement to get us up and the fact that we gave a really good account of ourselves despite relegation keeping him was a no brainer for any sane chairman (which obviously discounts a fair few

Hardly at Watford, he was removed to get Zola in without having one single game.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 3:33 pmHe will know, just like he experienced at the previous Watford job, that a new club and chairman will have him out quickly (a) if the quality of football is not good and (b) if the results are not going his way.
Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
Literally there's a quote from Dyche saying that a third were upset, a third probably indifferent and a third probably happy. People up in arms that I'm pointing out a third of your squad is a massive amount to be happy your managers gone.

Tbh, think that’s just life as a manager, as he says; not everyone will like you.
When I’ve left organisations people in my team have all claimed to be shocked, disappointed, wished me well, etc. Deep down you know a few mean it, a few don’t care & will quickly move on a few will be doing cartwheels. Just life.

Indeed and you would look stupid and deluded if you claimed that everyone was upset.NewClaret wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 5:01 pmTbh, think that’s just life as a manager, as he says; not everyone will like you.

He said exactly what had to say - dodged the bullets and probably in the end was happy to go when he did.
I think the players were probably loyal to him but even loyalty creates pressure and a burden and in the end it was probably a new lease of life for everyone when he went.
In my opinion, the financial position is such that the chairman had little choice but to do something and he didn't have the luxury of being in a secure enough financial position to gamble on Dyche getting us back up.

Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
Because Pace’s business pal pulled out of the £100 million investment after the Norwich game. Probably a few days after the game and Pace was so pi$$ed off that he sacked Dyche as soon as he found out.

He is, and always will be, a class act
Be very hard for anyone to do as well as he did as well
But you never know, and that is the beauty of football

And if there’d been four different ways to feel it’d have been quarters.
Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
Agree his description if the players reactions sound normal.
Some are the key men, some know they play, whoever manages and some will think they might have a better chance under a new man.
They have all been around football enough, to know everyone, including them, moves on.

Dyche sacked himself,by being to loyal to certain players who should have been dropped, tactics to predictable, would not change, subs always far to late,Vibes have not been right all season, the writing was on the wall,We ended up going to the games, half expecting to lose,All gone so stale, but the Main Man,could not see it,So So Sad,how it has ended after all he has done for us all!
Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
The edge had gone the moment Chris Wood said I'm his interview that he had got in his comfort zone at Burnley.

Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
I think that had been obvious for a while. It’s why most clubs don’t try and do what we did by keeping more or less the same starting XI for a prolonged period.

Re: Dyche gives first interview after Burnley
None of us will probably ever know why there was a delay between the Norwich game and Dyche's sacking, but some of the speculation was ludicrous.
The manager bounce after he left meant people giving lots of praise to Pace and some vindication to the clowns on here who have been calling for this change for a good 5 years.
Perhaps the recent news about 65m loan settlement had some influence.
Either way, Alan Pace has a long, long way to go before he proves himself to be anywhere near Dyche when we look back at who provided benefit to the club we support
