Some brilliant photos today. Don’t understand why some don’t get it but that is their right of course and is another sign of differing cultural viewpoints.

Re: Trooping the Colour!
Total waste of time and money, and I can’t think of anything I’d like to be doing less on a public holiday. Seems bizarre to me that people actually go to watch these things, still, each to their own.

Friends went down yesterday and camped out somewhere outside Buck Palace to get a good view of the " balcony" , not for me but.....God Save the Queen.

I didn’t, because I can simultaneously think that Trooping the Colour is crap and holidays are good.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 7:37 pmI take it those who oppose all this turned down the opportunity of time off?

Not a good day for Nicola Sturgeon, sitting in a darkened room all day with her eyes closed and her fingers in her ears.

I would rather celebrate what I choose when I choose.
why start on a Thursday? This has cost industry a fortune.
Re: Trooping the Colour!
A friend of mine was at Horseguards today watching "Trooping the colour" ... he had a ticket as he was a veteran of The Falklands 82 campaign ... am sure he would "appreciate" the pathetic cracks about "Marksmen" with eyes on the Balcony of Buck house...

I don't suppose anyone knows the honest views of the Queen on trooping the colour.
She has lots of jobs to do, some more important than others. I suspect that this is a pretty tedious chore and when the day comes

Re: Trooping the Colour!
... She probably thinks: oh god, not this pantomime again. Haven't I got a library in Slough yo open instead?
I imagine that the popularity of the royal family is inversely proptional to the popularity of the government of the day. That makes them very popular right now I would have thought. Charles or boris? Pritti patel or William?
Michael gove v Harry might be rather closer.

Re: Trooping the Colour!
Anniversary of the Monarchs official Royal Birthday on 2nd of June (her actual Birthday is sometime late April) ... this has been going on every year for 260 years "Trooping the Colour" to Celebrate the Royal Official Birthday ... this year special as its 70 years since she became Queen ... so having a bank holiday seems appropriate

Are we celebrating her birthday or coronation?
I really don't follow this, and frankly what harm would be done by leaving it a day and having what we'd all see as a long weekend?

Re: Trooping the Colour!
Yes, and the "hospitality" industry wouldn't have made a killing.
This is a government organised p!ss-up, vaguely disguised. (In my opinion) like I've said costing real industry a fortune
Re: Trooping the Colour!
But her coronation was 2nd June 1953 so it’s only 69 years .

That particular phrase probably not. It just came about because of the opportunity from what the other poster said.

Luckily for me they've abolished the death penalty for treason. Re: Trooping the Colour!
if we have to endure it at least do it on the right Saturday
Re: Trooping the Colour!
I’m a fan of the Royals, and always have been, but I must admit that my thoughts this week haven’t strayed too far from this.
My response team has been stripped to the bare bones in the run up to this.
Colleagues of mine have been tasked to do nightly mobile/foot patrols around the Palace. And when it gets to the early hours, the streets are largely deserted. Hundreds of officers patrolling empty streets.
Yet if you have been a genuine victim of crime this week, and needed to ring 999, you’ve probably not had a great response.
It’s wrong.

So what will be the reason for the **** poor response to crime NEXT weekend?
Re: Trooping the Colour!
As opposed to the rest of the year when police are round in 30 minutes to every burglary?
There are a lot of problems with police having their time wasted, but protecting the head of state isn't particularly one of them. Unless we're not going to have a head of state, these precautions would be taken whoever was "in charge" - probably more so.
Re: Trooping the Colour!
Wouldn't that be true of every bank holiday? It's one extra day, but apart from that, what's the difference?boatshed bill wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 8:35 pmwhy start on a Thursday? This has cost industry a fortune.

Let’s not forget the tens of thousands of members of the public who turned up to witness this special event. They deserve to be protected too…. I’m sure he knows that tho…dsr wrote: ↑Thu Jun 02, 2022 10:36 pmAs opposed to the rest of the year when police are round in 30 minutes to every burglary?

FFS there are some miserable bstards on here, we are celebrating a part of British culture that has a very elderly lady at the centre as she is the longest ever reigning British monarch,we are living in an historical moment, if that doesn't float your boat fair enough, but at least have the good grace to let the rest of enjoy these times.
Bet you still took your bank holiday.
