I suspect they'll already be looking at spare dates and speaking to various organisations.

I can't imagine UEFA cancelling European games. It only affects teams from the UK.

That's my point. I can't see UEFA (and tv companies) being prepared to disrupt their schedule to accommodate British clubs.TheFamilyCat wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 5:54 pmI can't imagine UEFA cancelling European games. It only affects teams from the UK.

Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
My understanding is
All sport in the UK cancelled on the day that the Queen's death is announced
All sport cancelled on the day that the Queen lies in state (Date of announcement plus 6)
All sport cancelled on the day that the Queen's funeral takes place (date of announcement plus 10)
Other than these 3 dates, most sports are likely to continue. Specific sports, that are closer to the queen, such as Horse Racing may be cancelled for longer periods.

Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
The Monarch definitely appoints the PM. That's why Johnson had to fly up to Balmoral to offer his resignation and Truss followed in order to be appointed. (The Govt. certainly doesn't - though you could argue that Truss was appointed by the Tory membership)AGENT_CLARET wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 6:03 pm![]()
No it doesn't, the Queen doesn't appoint the PM the government does
Going back to the previous poster, however, I can't see how the death of the monarch would make the PM "un-appointed"

I've had the radio on driving home from Gloucester. Yes, it started on Oxford and I ended up quitting radio 5 and 4, the latter of which hastily put on the first of what could be a large number of special programmes where various non-entities were being called in to discuss anything that they could think of.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Thu Sep 08, 2022 4:28 pmThey're working themselves into a froth as we speak.....covering everything from weeping tourists in London to Royals arriving... I don't see a lot of point in showing respect at great length after a death. The dead person can't see it. The day itself and the funeral day ought to suffice. The rest makes me think of North Korea, but I'm sure there will be a certain type that would like us to go that way.
She has worked long and hard for the country, but remember that earns a lot of perks, one seemingly being that she has no trouble getting hold of a gp. Whether that is adequate compensation is another issue.

Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
Presuming that Norwich and some distant Burnley fans will have to set off Friday lunchtime or before so I imagine there will be a fair bit of disruption to them if the game gets postponed late on. Games that are eventually replayed are postponed not cancelled methinks. .
Re: Sports cancelled in the event of Queen’s death?
Well postponement now forthcoming given the news

What about my post is indicative of what’s wrong with the country? Like I said, what would cancelling sports fixtures achieve? Would the queen have wanted the country to come to a standstill?
