Re: Great Footballing quotes ....
It's not one that came from the TV or press but during the Coyle era I took the whole family for a hospitality deal at the Turf on Boxing Day. Part of the deal was a tour of the ground with Andy Lochead. We were just leaving the changing rooms when Mr Coyle made an appearance. My daughter who likes the Clarets but doesn't really keep up to date with news turned to him and said, "And who might you be?" Coyle was speechless, which didn't happen very often, because he realised she genuinely didn't know who he was

Bill Shankly (again) when asked if he thought George Best was a better player than Tom Finney.
"Och aye, I'm sure he is. But don't forget that Tom is 49 years old."

Don't be fooled by Ramsey's public persona. As the WSC article above makes clear he wasn't averse to some industrial language.Rowls wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 11:41 pmI strongly doubt the expletive was used. Sir Alf was always conscious of his humble (ie. an upbringing of relentless absolute poverty) past and attempting to put on a middle class facade.
Such was his embarrassment at his roots he once reportedly responded, when asked where his parents came from, “Dagenham, I believe.”
I don’t know if this is true but it rings truer than the idea of a gentleman like Sir Alf swearing casually in public, in the 1960s.

Loose link here but a quote.. was talking football to a couple of Dutch guys this week, as soon as I mention Burnley they both said “Vincent Kompany- the man with the golden dick” since he left Belgium.
