pushinpussy, I was one of the people who left 2 minutes before the end. 3 weeks today I was on an operating table having my arm separated from my body, for a surgeon to saw through my arm/shoulder ball and socket joints and replace them with a metal ball and socket. 2 days after the Op I attended the Swansea match, which I also left just before the end. This was to avoid having my shoulder bumped into by anyone leaving the ground and possibly ending up back in hospital.
But you and others take it upon yourselves to wrongly assume supporters just want get away to avoid being late home.
Adding to that, the last home goal I missed seeing was in 1974, when I’d been drinking pre match and went to the toilet during the game and we scored. That was the last time I went to the pub pre game.
Valid reason. Most dont
Lets go 5 mins early to beat the traffic and get home 20 mins early. If you have kids or elders fair enough. But if you dont then...

I wish that people around me would leave early. My seat is almost at the back of JHU and it takes ages to get out, if they leave it allows for a quicker exit.

Pushpinpussy - Isn't this the bloke who told us he was in Majorca or somewhere Spanish, when in actual fact he was in Ramsbottom or similar?
Or was it vise-versa?
Either way he's not worth giving too much attention to, despite him claiming to be a lawyer or summat.

Can't imagine anybody would pretend to be in Ramsbottom if they were in Majorca. So it must be the first one.

Last night’s game was nicely poised going into extra time. It could have gone either way. The crowd (those who remained) were up for it, and it was buzzing. No excuse for wanting to dash off at all. Proper fans would stay to the end to cheer them on, win or lose. They would not make pathetic excuses of "needing to catch a bus" or" I've got work in the morning". Glad I stayed as usual, and you missed a belter but at least you got home early.

No he hasn't an illness. I've spoken with him before. He does it every game. He was worse during the Norwich game. He just likes to keep coming and going all game and comes back with snacks or drinks. Hes just rude and yes i do tutt because he is spoiling my enjoyment.

1. I have no idea why you would do this?
2. Try getting behind the team for the whole game instead of sneaking out early.
3. I hope you have learnt your lesson.
They're lucky!. I chose not to attend at all, despite only living down the road in Accy....

I can live with it... all is good.

Ive got a solution for you. Why do you not stay right until the end and wait until everyone else as left. That way you get to see all the game and the majority of fans would have left, pretty simple really.

Neither you nor anyone else (but especially not you) have the power or the ability to say who is a proper fan and who is not. Especially when you don't know their circumstances.

This topic is a regular on here and everyone always gets outraged and slags off anyone who raises it :D For what it's worth I confess that my brother and I looked at each other and said "How the hell can they leave now?!!" last night when various people near us.....who appeared to be in good health etc....left after about 85 minutes. I'd like to apologise to all the outraged ! You never see anyone leaving the cinema10 minutes before the end of a film though do you ? Yet it's a similar scenario ...I suppose less crowded.

You choose when to go to the cinema, so you'd book a day when you didn't have to go to work afterwards, or a time that didn't have any impact on the following days school
You'd also pick a cinema near home, not 40 or 100 miles away

In football we have no choice in any of the above.

There’s not 15000-20000 people leaving the cinema at the same time either

annoys me immensely. Fairweather fans. only interested if we are winning. guy seated near me in the Bob Lord went to the bar/toilet 3 times in the first half. another 3 times in the second half and wasn't seen again after 75 minutes. delusional.
Last week we had a 5 man team going on the match against Norwich. Few beers and a good laugh lay in wait.
Whilst on our way down we had some really bad news.
As we sat on the Longside 2nd half at 0-0, we came to the conclusion that we wouldn't really be able to celebrate a goal if one happened so we upped and left at 70mins.

Like stated above.... its f@@k all to do with you why some people leave early.
There is far more important things in life you know.

This is why I love this forum.

I mean an individual who chooses a userhandle like "pushpinpussy" who suggests that someone whose just had a huge op should wait for everyone else to leave the ground rather than leave 5 minutes early accuses others of not being adults.

It's a bit like getting stuck in a lift with some of the weirdest people on the planet.

There you are on the 3rd floor of a 25 floor building and all of a sudden the lift judders to a halt. You groan inwardly ponder whether you are going to get to your meeting on time, fret about what to say to your boss and just when you think things could not get any worse the only other occupant of the lift turns to you and says...

"Hi, I'm pushpinpussy, do you want to be my new friend?"

Some people don’t live in Burnley. Many have a long drive home….several hours. Many times when I’ve got on the motorway I’ve found sections closed for repairs.

So which is the real fan? The one who is in bed at 10.30pm or the one who gets home at 1am or later?

I left at 96 mins, but I do have a knee brace at the moment & try to get away as soon as possible, as I have to drive back to North Wales & if I dont get away before the rush, it adds another 30-60 mins to get home.

Luckily I saw Bensons equalizer & I heard the crowd cheering just before I got to the car, there was loads of us dancing around in the street!!

There are a multitude of reasons why people may have to leave before the final whistle.

* Illness - not all illness' are visible, a family member of mine always leaves either just before or on the board being shown for extra time due to various medical conditions that aren't visible to the naked eye
* People having other plans after the match (shocking I know)
* Having children with them - the mad rush that ensues after the game can be intimidating for some children and on a night match it is not always appropriate to wait until everyone else has left before leaving due to the time.

in short people need to stop being so judgemental of others and whether you stay to the final whistle or not does not give you the "Flex" of being a better/bigger Clarets fan. Get on with your own lives and let others live theirs.

I was working away on Wednesday, and it was a real push to get to the game in time for k o. I live I Preston, and was also up at 3am Thursday , working in Ipswich. I left around 4 mins AFTER the Benson goal, ran to my car, and obviously missed the winning goal. I was as elated as any fan still in the ground, got home at 10.40, up at 3.30. If some of you think you’re a better supporter than me, we’ll I’ll just have to deal with it. I had my reasons for leaving early. Sorry

I go on the football with my Brother and his son. They drive up from Berkshire for every game. I have never known him to leave early for a game. His kid is 7 years old. No excuses of “I need to miss the traffic” or “I need to get up early for work “ or the motorways might be closed. He stays until the end even if we are winning or losing. Why? He wants to applaud the players off for their efforts. Just like me. I appreciate some on here don’t have the capabilities to understand that.

Again, leaving early in my view with pathetic excuses and especially whilst we are losing makes you look loke a fairweather fan.

If people want to start ganging up on me and bullying me and using threatening language and swearing that shows your true colours.

It's getting to the point I don't believe a thing you say.

PPP, nobody is "ganging up" - individuals are responding in a similar vein. That it is consistently contrary to your position perhaps you ought to consider the other PoV

Nobody is bullying. As far as I can see the responses are either justifying their own actions, or applying mirth to what most can see is a quite bizarre premise you have

threatening language? I don't see that anywhere....

In contrast, your language is aggressive. You refer to their explanations to you as "pathetic excuses." So while you have somewhat of a victim mentality in what you say above, it is perhaps you that is being incendiary.

Lastly, by saying "makes you look loke a fairweather fan" exposes the true thrust behind your OP - you really do view this behavior as being in conflict with your "code of honor," and therefore your own "honor system" is offended. We're not in a tribe, we're not in the armed forces, we're not in a frat house or fraternity, we're open to come and go as we please, and nobody needs to answer to your code of honor

With all goodwill meant...... just sayin dude!

Out of interest, what in your opinion, would be an acceptable excuse for leaving early, because all the ones that I’ve seen put forward appear quite reasonable to everybody else

Why do you need an excuse to leave early, pathetic or otherwise?

It's not something I ever do, I always stay to the end, because that's what I do. But I don't see why you need to justify a decision to leave early.

Pahahahaha, so people have to miss the last bus or train because they're a "proper fan!?" - so what, do they walk home afterwards instead then?

The guy you mentioned and said hasn't got an illness - how do you know? What if he has severe anxiety... or has to go and inject or something? there could be all sorts of reasons why he's had to get up (and leave early) and none of you or anyone else around will know, but to state he (or anyone else leaving early) is not a proper fan is just absolute gash. What next - if you don't have a BFC tattoo, are you not a proper fan?

I don’t agree with pushpinpussy, I think as many others do, that you can come and go as you please. I quite often leave my seat a few minutes early and watch the end of the match in the concourse on the tvs if it is being shown. I also don’t think there has been an overly aggressive or abusive theme in the replies to his posts. Until the last one that is. That one is not in keeping and is out of order.
Makes you wonder about the poster’s photo gallery and the images he likes to collect.
