Thats made me feel old!
Went over to WHL from West Hampstead and bought 4 tickets the day before. One for my Spurs fan boss.
Walking up go the Lane next evening we heard some loud chanting.
"Our lads are on form tonight" he quipped. He'd been telling me all week they'd ease up on us at half time.
They were actually Burnley fans we heard outside ths ground. ( he didnt know I'd bought tickets for the away end )

I sent him a wreath, next day. All the staff team were around to see it delivered. ;)

What a night.
Second only, in favourite away games, to the 4-1 win in Leeds in the early 70s. 8-)

All our goals were scored at the far end and there was some confusion over Roberts' goals... a few of thought Taylor had scored them, i didn't find out until the next day.
Apparently the ITV Newsreader reading out the scores said that it must be the wrong way round!
One of the great away days.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, it will be 14 years on Saturday since the Carling Cup semi against Spurs.
That definitely doesn't seem possible!

Another special night, this time on the Turf......We're level after 90 minutes with goals from Blake, McCann & Jay, only to be done in extra-time by Tottenham once again.

Might this be an appropriate thread to debate our finest ever away performance?

Buxtonclaret nominates the sensational performance/result at Leeds in '74, any more suggestions?

I have the Tottenham 4-1 win in third place and the 4-1 at Leeds in second.

40 years, that's incredible, I rememberthat game like it was yesterday. Also, if I'm not mistaken, it will be 14 years on Saturday since the Carling Cup semi against Spurs.
It’s frightening how time passes so quickly. I thought it was yesterday. 😂

After getting hammered at Bolton 3 - 0 the Saturday before everyone was expecting a thrashing. Bearing in mind Spurs were 2nd at the time and FA Cup holders another disappointment seemed inevitable. Me and three friends were at Nelson bus station dossing around when Norman Jones` coach pulled in. We were literally unemployed rascals at the time and Norman was our mentor at the Unemployment Centre on Leeds Rd just around the corner. We were only there to see them off but he managed to coax us on board and said to pay him the £9 coach fare back on Monday morning so we just jumped on. The rest is history and what a night on a coach trip to London with some serious lunatics. What an amazing night and completely unexpected. Never did pay the £9 back either .... Cheers Norman.

The Roberts header was obviously an own goal but I don’t think any of us realised that the next one was an own goal from that far end.

Just about summed up the season that night, amazing cup wins and crap in the league.

One thing I don’t think was mentioned was the supporters club acquiring a film of the full game and showing it in the following night in the Centre Spot. The place was packed to the rafters.

I’m sure I used to have a copy on VHS but if I did it’s long gone.

Obviously got the goal highlights on YouTube. I had loads of games on tapes that went some years ago.

Yes. Seen the goals on YouTube. Probably a lot better on there than at the ground, being at the other end. We were in 2nd tier seats.
Would have been grand to see the whole match again though.

Billy's second goal just before the end was a thing of rare beauty. He was screaming all the way from the half-way line, knew he was going to score. What a centre-forward he was.

I also remember it well. Me and my mate listening on the radio with a really bad MW signal. Disbelief at the goals going in.

Very rarely did it away from home though. In the league that season he scored in the first away game at Middlesbrough that we won 4-1 and didn't score again all season. In the previous season, when we won promotion, his only away goal was at Walsall.

Never noticed before but do I see a Burnley fan celebrating in the Home end behind the goal for the 1st and 2nd goals we score ?
Do you think the Burnley fan survived in there on his own? Clearly wasn't there for the other goals.

If you post on here, mark yourself safe Claret.

A now sadly departed Nelson Claret, Ada Marshall got nicked after the game. He had to go back to London to appear in court, took a "witness" with him to testify that it was a case of mistaken identity and got off the charge. The "witness" who testified wasn't even at the game when Ada was arrested

I went to the game with a Spurs fan and stood in with home fans. They went mad as we came back from a goal down and were throwing beer at the police who tried to quieten them down. Being a full signed up coward I could only smile very quietly as we recovered from a goal down to win. Still regret to this day not being able to celebrate the triumph with the Claret fans.

What a night!

Eas on a work course, at Manor Gardens. Walked from Seven Sisters in my suit with coat and scarves.

Unbelievable match Hordle, Ardiles etc whacked 'em.

Walking back to Seven Sisters and on the tube, could hardly contain myself. The Tottingham Hotspur fans were far from happy! Loved it!
Just remembered....I fell asleep on the train home and was woken by a railwaymen. The train stopped at my stop, fortunately!

21 years old, got a lift to the game from Milton Keynes from a spurs supporting work colleague. Remember walking up and down outside the ground after the game trying to remember where he'd parked the car. Couldn't understand at the time why all these scary looking spurs fans kept asking people outside the ground what time it was. 😱
