Well yeah, go ahead. I'm not going to hit the report button. It only undermines your own argument when you resort to that kind of thing.
Ok. As long as you promise you’re not getting a sexual thrill out of it.

Hey - I’ve been given carte blanche here. Don’t think for a second I’m not going to take advantage.

(...or “carte blanc” as Rowls would probably say. Despite living in France he never really bothered to learn the language properly. Pesky immigrant not putting in the effort to integrate.)

Keep it coming. Guys like you do as much for Conservatism as Jeremy Corbyn did.
I can afford to be polite.

There's a fairly obvious reason why I got the gender wrong for arbre and that's because it's never vocalised.
I was very uninterested in the written aspect of French. I only ever focused on whatever could help me be understood.
Unlike, say GCSE French, you don't really lose marks with native speakers for mucking up your genders every now and again.

You never had the need to refer to “a tree” in French then? Ok.

Yeah. I’m sure loads of people are saying to themselves “I was going to vote Labour after seeing how the Tories have wrecked the country, but then I saw Greenmile call Rowls a Tory pr1ck, and now I don’t know what to think”

It’s a shame that Greenmile has to resort to insults just because he can’t force an admission of error from another poster. I imagine that my political views are much more aligned with him than with Rowls. In fact I vehemently disagree with Rowls on many of the political views that he’s expressed on here. However I shouldn’t be surprised. This type of name-calling is sadly symptomatic of much of today’s disagreements between right and left.

This sort of thing has been done for years to make words fit into tunes ...
The
Oh Burn er ley
Oh Burn er ley
is won der ful
is won der ful
To make it scan ... is a classic case in point
Ha ha, Yes quite BC, but you could just as simply extend the ‘Burn’ so to speak
Oh Burn-ley
Oh Burn-ley
is won der ful etc…
Then anyone listening might think that everyone supporting Burnley knows how to correctly pronounce the town the we are supporting!

The initial "insult" which caused so much offence was ...

I think that was a perfectly fair and reasonable inference from Rowls' contention that it's "lazy" not to speak with an RP accent.
After that, I was just having a bit of fun. It amused me, which was my only real intention at the time.
I'm truly sorry if it upset anyone reading in and / or caused them to decide to vote Tory at the next election.

You don’t need to know the gender of a tree to say that. You fall for almost every little trap like that. You’re such an easy catch I might start calling you <<ma bite>>
Bonne nuit

The guttural 'R' in French is the hardest, most unnatural technique I've come across while learning French....and it's everywhere. Makes me wonder if the Scouse would have an easier time with it, given their propensity to gutturise 'ck'. I'll crack it one day but, for now, my family and friends can continue the humour that goes along with my efforts to pronounce 'tree'. Practice.
I envy my three year old daughter, who has naturally picked up the pronunciation as expected.
