Yes, but those sort of sentences are only handed down to the little people like Pilley and the one last week for the girl running the travel agency scam in the northeast. I was taught gaoled was english and jailed was American. Might not be true but I’ve stuck with it.

Gaoled is archaic. I've been in journalism 53 years and I've never seen it used yet in either my papers or others I read. Jailed, yes, locked up is the usual tabloid version
