Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
It gets stranger.....when twitter got rid of 3rd party apps my old version of tweetings continued to work on my tablet, but not on any other device.
Today the search function is not loading on my normal app, but still works on tweetings...

Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
I really don’t understand the hatred of Elon, almost like some think he is a Bond villain or something. I enjoy and use Twitter more than ever. Obviously he wants his investment to be profitable. I don’t see any porn or snuff clips. I do admit I see posts from both the extreme left and right pretty evenly without searching them out. If I don’t want to see someone I block them. I thinks it’s a great news source. No I don’t pay.

I used to love Twitter but there is so much fake news now (and it's getting worse with AI) it's almost becoming a parody.

Rumours I am seeing around is he has not paid the bill for the servers, they have then throttled the usage. No idea if it’s true of course.

Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
Must say I’m surprised to see someone say they’re enjoying it more than ever. I joined it in 2010 and like any social media there was always the need for a bit of careful curation and tending to what you see, but the last 12 months have been a bin fire that have sucked any enjoyment out of it for me. I know people who’ve persevered and stuck with it, but I sacked it off earlier this year and frankly, I’ve not missed it.Elbarad wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 3:15 pmI really don’t understand the hatred of Elon, almost like some think he is a Bond villain or something. I’m torn between thinking Musk ended up buying something he didn’t want and doesn’t know how to run, or he’s actively trying to crash it.
Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
He says it is owing to excessive data scraping by others. This stops it.

Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
It isn’t, it’s like five minutes of scrolling and includes tweets that just scroll by that you have no interest in.
I fall into the ‘he’s clueless’ camp rather than any kind of deliberate attempt to set fire to it. I think he’s a control freak, which is fine in stuff he has an active interest and knowledge base in, but an absolute disaster here. And those who are enjoying the Twitter experience more now…I can only think they have a vested interest or they know the guy personally or something.

It's like anything if you can get away with charging people that's what will happen & while there's some people who seemingly (no names mentioned) behave like somebody with some skag & a spoon it'll go on, if everybody boycotted the damn bloody thing the tide would turn & the musk fella wouldn't have the control/power he seems to have.

It's not as fake as the BBC and the rest of the mainstream.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 3:43 pmI used to love Twitter but there is so much fake news now (and it's getting worse with AI) it's almost becoming a parody.

My son is going mad about this.
I’ve never had so much conversation with him at a weekend. We’ll done Elon, I say

Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
Prior to Musk buying it, Twitter was losing huge sums of money. It was generally accepted that there would need to be job cuts and a rethink of how to generate revenue. That's no comment on Musk and what he has done since.Pickles wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 6:34 pmMusk has destroyed what was a fine form of media.
It was an efficient, insightful platform - often my first choice for news from journalists on the ground of whatever situation was happening anywhere in the world. It took little effort to find someone knowledgeable and articulate about literally any subject.
Musk had the best writers, the most famous profiles, the funniest comics all contributing on their own time for free. Ironically, you just cannot buy that sort of content.
Now it's a wasteland of fake news, conspiracy theorists, peddlers of extreme views, and utterly bland repetitive memes - all decorated with the pathetic, flimsy veneer of the blue tick.

Making it up as he goes along.
Absolutely nothing about this from the newly appointed Twitter CEO, which seems surprising considering the catastrophic effect on the site’s traffic - she was meant to be the new decision maker while Musk took a back seat, but evidently this isn’t happening.

Twitter faces lawsuit over alleged non-payment for office services in four countries. It's also been reported that there are ongoing issues over its Google Cloud bills.

Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
Its certainly got a limited shelf life left now I think
I think you might be alright if you don't interact and have limited followers/followings but otherwise probably not (this is just a complete guess btw)
Threads launches this week, and bluesky looks promising (I don't use instagram though so threads might not be ideal)
Whoever can release something that works like twitter, but without the, er, "Musk improvements" will be on to a winner (and make it a viable business of course!)

Would love it if all the released staff from Twitter launched a new site... perhaps called it "Titter"Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 7:41 amWhoever can release something that works like twitter, but without the, er, "Musk improvements" will be on to a winner (and make it a viable business of course!)

I'll be glad when it's dead and buried. It will be refreshing when the rantings of a few trolls, cranks and gobsh1tes aren't used as the barometer for everything.

Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
Just be replaced by something else
Obviously opinions differ, but essentially twitter wasn't like Facebook, and it now essentially is

Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
I’m only a low/moderate user but Twitter now seems to resemble a zoo with almost endless spam/fake news/ ads/ and a level of lunacy that beggars belief . As for the scrolling videos god help us . I get that Musk is trying to make it profitable and upset the left leaning status quo by letting anyone get back on etc , but the place feels rancid .
Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
The difficulty is that twitter, as a business, wasn't profitable. It hadn't been profitable for years, hence why the owners were crying with joy when they got Musk to pay for it.
Whatever replaces it will require commercial revenue, meaning it will need to be regulated so advertisers aren't scared off.

Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
Ha, when did profitability ever matter to a venture capitalist? Twitter could operate for a century without making a penny profit and so long as there are venture capitalists willing to believe in the product they'd keep the lights on. It's just funny money, it's not even real, all that matters is that VC investors get to live like kings for a few years on the back of twitter before moving on to the next emerging brand and passing their stake on to the next VC looking for a nice life. When a business operates at the scale of twitter conventional economic principles like 'make profit or you'll go bust' go flying out the window. It ain't a corner shop.
Re: Twitter - “Rate Limit Exceeded”
Isn't the issue that there needs to be the perception of a profit in order to attract investors? Twitter's losses really started stacking up in the past 5 years and if Musk hadn't bought it the existing board would have needed to do something very, very drastic (large job cuts were on the table). The problem facing twitter is akin to that which has faced a number of companies (meta, google etc) - does the business model work over the long run? How viable is it?Spiral wrote: ↑Tue Jul 04, 2023 6:49 pmHa, when did profitability ever matter to a venture capitalist? Instagram's threads will try to pick up those leaving it. Will be interesting to see how that works. I suppose they've at least got plenty of case studies to have informed their business model.
