Didn't mask his self-interested cynicism as well as 99% of other footballers; or rather, events transpired whereby his cynicism was revealed in spite of his best efforts to maintain the appearance of affection for the club that fans of all clubs yearn for - even if they don't truthfully expect of it - in their players- all this happened to a player who lacked the talent that would otherwise persuade fans that he really, truly is too good to be playing in the Championship. If goes something like this, to use a hypothetical: Mbappe, you don't want to play in the Championship? Yeh, sounds about right. Good luck to you in Madrid. Wout, you don't want to play in the Championship? Why? What've you done to earn that clemency?
