I bet they all had decent cuts of meat when Bob Lord was running the place.

Was at sixth form that year Wednesday afternoon you would normally see the majority of the squad around town and then Waddle in a pub on Friday night.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 11:33 amYet Lee Howey claims the Burnley players weren't drinkers and he had nobody to socialise with.

The pre season was full of excitement what followed was a nightmare. Imagine this messageboard in league 1 watching that! Pretty sure was November until we won when we brought in Gerry Creaney. Then we had a pretty good second half to the season with a load of home wins against the top sides with the bonus of Payton and Little!

First win was against Carlisle at home in October. Same day as the Italy v England World Cup qualifier in Rome on the Saturday night.

It was Lee Howey I was having a dig at not you.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 6:51 pmWas at sixth form that year Wednesday afternoon you would normally see the majority of the squad around town and then Waddle in a pub on Friday night.
Thankfully, I missed the full Waddle season through working away.
But just before that Burnley used to train in the gym (now fanzone) on Sundays on occasion, just before we would play indoor cricket.
Eyers and Heath smelt like breweries once and that was after training. I would have been around 18/19 and out all the time with friends. From pub opening to nightclub kick out and nobody smelt as bad as them two did once.
The club was full of drinkers, as was football full stop around then.

Yes the 0-0 that meant England qualified.
Ian Wright hit the post late on. Nobody would have believed at the time that he’d be playing for us two seasons later.

Waterfoot Boys under 15s went to watch training one morning.
Glenn Roeder asked them if they fancied having a game.
They played against the majority of the first team and had Gordon Cowans and Mark Ford on the Waterfoot team. Waterfoot won 1-0. My mate couldn’t believe what had happened.

Andy Cooke's second goal was a header from a cross by Damien Matthew. Can't recall who crossed for the first one but might have been Paul Weller.Madpete wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 12:48 pmI don’t think I’ll ever forget the Plymouth game as we could have gone down but it was a cracking game where we played really well with,if I remember correctly,Little supplying Coke with two crosses & Cooke rewarding Little with two goals! Hope that’s right.
I thought that Waddle had come to grips with the managing bit & I was extremely disappointed when he resigned to take up commentating with the BBC in France at the World Cup.

I would have been shocked if it was anyone but him to be honest. And I will second the comments made by blondeclaret as I used to stock their drinks cabinet.
Re: Waddle talks Burnley
When you think about it, it was so easy for someone like Wenger to come into British football and find an edge over the competition. Just stop the players eating and drinking rubbish. It was obvious when you look at it now. In these days of ultra professional athletes, it's so difficult to find that extra advantage.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 8:09 pmIt was Lee Howey I was having a dig at not you.

Strange thing that I've just remembered...
I spoke to Stan in the Kettledrum about a week before he was appointed as Burnley manager, and he said he wouldn't do the job for a gold clock..
And the reason was for falling out with Teasdale over him and his wife being charged for a bottle of wine!

It sounds like the club was run on booze and pettiness.
