We seem to go to pot whenever we concede a goal. No idea whether it’s a lack of confidence, belief, experience etc. Either way it’s a massive issue. Tonight was very much a Jekyll and Hyde performance - we barely put a decent move together after going behind.
Yep, but Koleosho’s injury changed the game for me. Suddenly Wolves had nothing to worry about and could press higher without fear of being caught on the counter.
Don’t think anyone on the bench tonight replicate what Koleosho offers, but JBG was about as far away is it was possible to get.

VK is definitely weird with his subs. One minute he's changing folk at 50 minutes and other times (like tonight) he seems really reluctant. I was constantly checking my watch from 55 minutes onwards thinking we needed a change and he changed nowt until it was too late and it made absolutely no difference apart from actually helping Wolves see the game out. Somewhat bizarre tbh.

Can’t imagine Larsen’s confidence is too high at the moment ,and I don’t think VK’s helping ,scored the winner at Luton then doesn’t pick him he then had a few last minute sub appearances,he then gets his first start and scores ,doing ok tonight then he’s told to swap wing then subs him off.
His man management in general since promotion has been all wrong, the way he handled last season's squad to playing players who haven't earned the right too, then swapping and changing players in and out of the team it's all strange and shows in our results.
People keep saying the performances are good but we conceded easily and don't create enough chances, it's not good enough

Subs bench seems to be picked by a lucky dip this season.

Any substitution after that had to balance weakening the team whilst trying to get a stronger foothold in the game to try and score an equaliser.
This balance is something Kompany has to learn......but is not learning quickly enough.....at our expense.

Yes that’s true. But at that point the game is 0-0, and JBG does provide Rodriguez with our best chance shortly after coming on. Of course, a few minutes later we’re behind and then JBG is not the player we needed with JBL on the opposite flank.
I thought we did well for a short period after Koleosho went off, for me the game completely changed when they scored (as daft and obvious as that sounds).
There’s a good argument that VK played safe with that change and it backfired, but he had a lot of time to reverse it and get back on the front foot in the game and he failed to do so. The 92nd minute introduction of Redmond and Odobert was absolutely bonkers.

Completely agree. But did we have that pace and threat in behind on the bench? Obviously we had more direct players than JBG but not sure there’s much that would have been able to adequately replace Koleosho. Scary how reliant we seem to be on a 19 year old.
It is - I think Redmond, Odobert, Trésor are all significantly quicker than JBG.
Trésor not a guy to run in behind like but I think Redmond still has that in his locker and Odobert has pace.
Poor from VK I feel.

Agree. Subs came too late.
Jay certainly has to take his share of the blame for tonight. It a glorious chance to put us ahead just before half-time.

I do agree it was the wrong decision. But with so many out of form/untested/inexperienced - basically too many - wingers on the bench I can see why he went with the tried and tested JBG considering it was 0-0 at the time and a point would have been a very good result.
Obviously it didn’t work out but I personally feel the bigger mistake was not to not change things early in the second half after going behind. We were chasing the game with JBG, JBL, Amdouni and Rodriguez as our four forwards who aren’t going to trouble anyone for pace.

Yeah you're probably right there RB -
Either way, managers live and die by the sword. Just concerning that we don't seem to learn

I think the make up of the bench was a problem.
I get that some of them could have replaced Amdouni as the 10, but you’re basically looking at 6 wingers, 2 CBs and a GK. How many subs can you realistically make from those 9 without unbalancing the side?
You shouldn’t be going into PL games with no striker on the bench. Likewise no CM.

Bloody right you shouldn't.
The recruitment has been utterly dreadful.
Millions wasted on average bods like Trafford and O'Shea.

I think putting on JBG was based on the idea of adding some experience in terms of controlling the game further. The sad truth was that Koleosho was the reason we were controlling or had parity to some extent.
Pace is vital to the system we play, it was last year. If you have short play at the back it draws the opposition onto us. That's fine if we then have a 40 yard out ball to the likes of Tella. However, without pace the opposition can squeeze and press us with no danger. Without pace all we can do is pass to Jay's feet or pick sideways passes.
With JBG coming on it meant we had no threat so Wolves could happily step up. I appreciate Vincent wanted the more experienced and safer option but it just made us less effective.
Again, recruitment.....

If we have Jay up top we need in behind threats on our wings
If we have Foster/Obafemi up top then it's less critical because we have an in behind threat through the middle
That is no criticism of Jay Rod at all who has been fine when given service and has linked play well when dropping deeper.
I thought VK would be able to figure that one out though; Koleosho going off allowed them to push up and strangle us deeper which inevitably lead to the goal and then they sat off and we couldn't break them down.
Infuriating
If Jay is starting, and ending a game, we are screwed.

I don't necessarily agree with that tbh.
Quick to be written off I feel - my point stands if we play him in that deeper role linking play then we need people that can run in behind him.
He still has a top footballing brain and vision. Made some good switches of play last night... What we can't do is play him and expect him to make runs in behind because that's not his game any more.
Think a 'Giroud' lite if you will.
