That Dara pass to JBL for the Sheff Utd goal was on every single time they pressed us in the first half, we played it once I think

I never said we are trying to play the same way as last season.KRBFC wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2023 12:17 pmAgain another poster pretending we’re trying to play the same way as last season, we aren’t.
We are no longer a passing pressing team with a fluid system designed to create 3v2s in areas of the pitch.
We are now a pass around defence until we get pressed and cough it up. Zero pressing. Zero tempo. Zero fluidity.
I've pointed out that they way we are trying to play NOW can never work in the prem.
That's why I used Norwich as an example. No team can survive trying to play football like we are currently doing

The most annoying thing for me is Trafford getting picked to play.
We must buy another goalkeeper in January if Muric isn’t going to get a game because we can’t go on with this guy playing in the Premier League for us. When we go down he’s still going to have the same problem of getting bullied from set plays.

Re: The most annoying thing for me is….
Unfortunately the answer to most of these questions is the **** poor recruitment in the summer, meaning we have to make do with what we haveKRBFC wrote: ↑Sat Dec 16, 2023 10:49 pmThe thing that’s annoyed me most about this season is why we have just abandoned last seasons tactics?
We are at home 2-0 down to Everton, where is the press? Where’s the overlapping fullback? Where is the inverted fullback creating a midfield 3?
This whole creating overloads has gone. Now what are we?
We don’t press, we aren’t a solid defensive counter attack, we don’t kick long with any success, we’re awful at set pieces, what is the aim?
We just seem to pass it around sideways and backwards slowly with zero tempo until the opposition press us and we cough it up.
I’d rather see us going down with the same tactics as last season, this new VK style is considerably worse to watch too. Go get beat 3 or 4 nil but give it a go, we wouldn’t have scored tonight if we were still playing now. Zzzzzz
Last season Maatsen almost played as a winger, bombing forward. Now we have Charlie Taylor and no backup
We needed an upgrade on Roberts with more pace and athleticism, but that never happened
We don't have a CB or GK who can ping long balls to wingers feet anymore
We don't have Tella (our main goal threat)
What I'm not sure of yet is how much of this is VK's fault and how much is the board / recruitment team

There are (it seems) only 3 automatic picks on the team sheet each week providing they're fit and available. Trafford, O'shea and Beyer. The first two are clearly not good enough to hold a place down in a PL team which intends to be competitive. The last one probably is, but I'm yet to be totally convinced. VK's blind, complete and unwavering faith in Trafford and O'Shea is going to cost us everything and he seems to be the only person who can't see it which is very worrying. Why on earth Ekdal can't get a start in a team totally unable to keep out the simplest of goals is utterly baffling imo. We foolishly went chasing all these tricky wingers in the summer when VK more than anyone, given his pedigree, should have known that quality, experienced defenders were a top priority.

I didn’t say we haven’t changed at all, nor has anyone else if I can recall. Give me last seasons team/tactics any day of the week.
But VK has set up this way for the prem, and has no intention of changing it. He’s said it, it’s clear to see, his team selection includes head scratches almost weekly.

Re: The most annoying thing for me is….
Last year our two full backs particularly Maatsen, and to some degree Roberts , were catylsts in increasing our tempo, with both developing a good partnership with Zarourry and Benson respectively. The ball got to these wide men quickly and we had Howard Bayliss who could also thread a good pass too. Yesterday every time Delcroix got the ball it went back to Beyer, and whilst Charlie has been a good defender he does it too. For the first time in decades we have pace in our wide men but its just not being used with our pedestrian movement from our keeper releasing it and then our back four moving it from side to side. Surely our coaches see this. We are not asking to alter our style just simply increasing the passing movement. The good thing is we are not being trashed, and if we can get into the opponents half whilst they are still retreating, and with Foster back, we have a chance of getting on the score sheet

It is like the Emperor’s New Clothes on the playing side at Turf Moor nowadays. Kompany in his head still believes all is ok and things will just “click” any day now and he will then be applauded and the media will blow smoke up his @rse for sticking to his philosophy all along. His coaching team, including set piece coach, drinks technician, iPad technician et.al. are all yes men and are just massaging his large ego knowing full well that we are sleep walking to relegation.
Alan Pace hasn’t got a scooby do about football and sits there in the directors box squeezing his wife’s hand tightly for almost one hundred minutes per game hoping that this will somehow influence things on the playing field. It is almost as naive as a little child shutting its eyes tightly thinking that not nice things will simply disappear.
We can come on here and have the post match debates about Trafford, O’ Shea, Vithino, Jay and the umpteen wingers he has signed, none of them with any real substance about them but it won’t make a scrap of difference. Kompany will not change his approach.
He and his team were a breath of fresh air last season. However because his large ego won’t let him deviate from his course, what he is doing this season will set Burnley FC back years. UTC.

I was disappointed as well. We never looked anywhere near decent and still came very close to scoring twice. However that doesn't mean after every bad game you have to question everything the club is doing.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 6:21 amLooked a lot better than what ever the fresh hell we served up Saturday

Trafford was the man of the match against Brighton and the next week he's rubbish because we lose? Give me a break.
I have no problem with criticism but most of the stuff you read here are just... Drunken rants about every little thing that pops to mind.
By the way it's pretty logical that a result minded defensive coach will get more points in short term over someone with a total football approach which takes a while for players to get used to.
Re: The most annoying thing for me is….
That being said looking at player values it's only normal we lose against Everton. Every player is worth about 20m when we're playing with Larsen Delcroix and Rodriguez the 3 of em worth not even 10 together. So yes what do you expect?

Brighton was a red herring, we got pumped. Never said Traff is 'rubbish' just not suited for what we're trying to do and his inclusion makes us worse rn, imo.
As for your last point -
- You don't get time to experiment in the PL
- Even bigger reason why wholesale changes from last year was stupid
- Dyche has also been at Everton for a shorter period than VK has been at Burnley and has managed half as many games for them tha VK has for us

We have conceded 8 from set pieces, the same as Forest, Luton and Bournemouth, and one more than Sheff Utd.
Not great but not an outlier either. Open play is where we ship most.
So I’m not seeing the stats that suggest we’ll sink compared to these other teams, they imply we’ll be on a battle until the end. The main problems to me are personnel not tactics, and I hope we improve those in January. I suspect the owners will continue to roll the dice by spending a bit but I think we may need a loan or two with experience and no future financial benefit other than staying up.

There's plenty to "like" here Jamesy. I don't have an issue per se with VK sticking to his "footballing" principles, but it's utterly pointless if you're getting beaten every week and you're getting beaten every week because the players you recruited clearly aren't good enough to play that way at this level. Plus it HAS to be built on a solid, tight, uncompromising foundation. IE a back 5 who don't just play football, but can actually defend properly when necessary. We don't have that foundation and it's patently obvious and that makes all the pretty footy and playing on the floor and playing out from the back a complete waste of time.Jamesy wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2023 8:13 amI’ve got to say it, Kompany has lost his marbles.

I have been a season ticket holder for years and I travel up from Shrewsbury to home matches. People I work with and friends of mine in the town often discuss football with me. They were really praising us last season. However, this season they keep asking me what has happened to Burnley as they cannot believe how we are at the bottom of the table after ripping up the Championship last season.
My stock answer is that Kompany has spunked a lot of money on the wrong players and neglected the spine of the team. And even worse, he refuses to see this. Up to a few weeks ago they kept telling me as neutrals often do that our luck would change. I think even they can see now that we are doomed.

I know we aren’t doing much better but I think last seasons set up along with the players we had was perfect for the championship, not so the Premier League. Tella would have given us so much more this season the way he could run in behind.

We are riddled with indecision, thats what a lack of confidence does. Theyve been punished for playing out so often that they are now really nwrvous when doing it under pressure, then we occasionally go more direct but thats not our game so we dont do it with any conviction. Weve ended up with a mish mash of styles that has stemmed the flow defensively but doesnt give us enough attacking threat

We were just outmanaged
Pickford is a 30m keeper at least
Tarks showing his worth
Godfrey better and worth more than any of our back line
Dwight showing he’s worth more than they paid for him probably 30m plus atm
Patterson is 15-20m
James Garner is easily a 20m player
Onana could fetch 60-70m
Doucoure is a beast too
Calvert-Lewin injury free is a 40m striker
Beto signed for big money
Dobbin part of their quality youth set up.
Correct me if I’m wrong the only loanee was Harrison, who again on current form is probably worth more than all our wingers.
I never expected anything from the game, all week dreading it to be honest, Everton are a good premier league team, with a good manager and all sing off the same song sheet.
I don’t mind us getting beat, it’s men against boys in this league, it’s the manner in which the defeats come.

Tresor has shown nothing.
Benson's been injured, but would for me be a starter at least he has an X factor about him.
Dyche PL Football is better than Kompany PL Football so far for one simple reason- we won more. Also, his football was anything but horrible until the last 2 seasons. Ruthlessly efficient, organised, a team completely in sync that was genuinely a tactical joy to watch, I genuinely enjoyed seeing teams try and fail to break us down and leave themselves open to the counterpunch. "Good football" and "enjoyable football" are entirely subjective tastes.
Re: The most annoying thing for me is….

Re: The most annoying thing for me is….
Why would you press everton really high? They will play over the press. Dyche was big on nullifying a high press and not allowing his teams to lose possession in his own third because statistically thats where most goals come from.
I actually thought his Burnley side sometimes struggled more at this level when they were allowed possesion and asked to break teams down. Probably explained our poor cup record.

Re: The most annoying thing for me is….
We started positive in the first five minutes.
There were two balls down the wings for Larsen which put Everton under pressure. We looked good, positive and should have kept that up.
After that we resorted to the awful back passing tactic which to be honest is painfull to watch.
It's pretty grim watching us at the moment.

Comes across to lethargic to me, I remember an interview maybe pre season where he spoke to a lady from the club who asked him about being nervous match day and he said he didn't get nerves. Nerves are a good thing at that level, watch when the two teams have shook hands before kick off every player sprints all pumped up and he just strolls to the nets like he's walking his dog, he needs to get something about himself and get motivatedVegas Claret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 6:10 amI can't disagree with you Bumba, needs some time in the gym. When your main striker is Jay Rodriguez I don't think you can expect more than bottom of the league. Delcroix bought for 3m after a knee injury... The poor lad looked like he already played a game before starting vs Everton. Looked physically not ready to play PL football. Though I'm a fan of his and do think he should be able to play at this level when confident and fit. VK taking him off after an hour is a sign on the wall that we probably won't see much more of him.
Larsen isn't a PL player either though he scored two beautiful goals and has shown promising stuff. You can't expect to beat an established PL team with guys that shouldn't even be in de squad.
Hopefully the transfer window can get us a good leftback and a striker to compete with Foster and Obafemi.
