Likewise I think foster has been rushed back from his hernia, had we been sat comfortable in the table I don’t think we would have seen foster again this season

That's a slightly different interpretation, though.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 9:24 pmLikewise I think foster has been rushed back from his hernia, had we been sat comfortable in the table I don’t think we would have seen foster again this season
Like I said, the conditioning staff are the ones who get to say if a player is fit enough.
The manager surely takes their advice on a player's fitness.

Shame.
Tremendously talented player and was definitely a fan favourite. Struggled a bit in the PL and i'm not sure if he's cut out to play centre back at the top levels of football - right back or right centre back in a 3 for me.

Re: Beyer
Course the manager will take their advice but then you’d imagine the conversation regarding playing would be between player and manager.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 9:27 pmThat's a slightly different interpretation, though.

I’m not saying it’s 100% true it’s just a story that had been doing the rounds
Re: Beyer
I've found it a bit suspect a few times how quickly players have found themselves back in the team after injury so this fall out wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.
It also looked like Foster was rushed back way too quick based on his performance against Chelsea in particular. He hardly moved.
I think there's been similar comments about Ramsey also

Re: Beyer
Foster - well, mental health is boosted by playing, Kompany has stated before that is his natural environment, so it isn’t all about his groin, plus, his return has now coincided with us losing 1 in 7 so it seems it worked.
Beyer - what is odd about this is two things. One, our staff wouldn’t risk an unfit player, implying they thought he was fit but the player did not. A shame really, seeing as in his first game back he cost us 3 points with that gaffe against Palace. Secondly, he played 8 more games before he did his meniscus. Nearly 2 months later. Doesn’t feel related to rushing him back. Maybe he is a player always panicking about being injured on the pitch, given his injury record? Whatever, something doesn’t feel right, I like the O’Shea / Esteve pairing better, injury risk being one factor, so a sale would make sense.

I presume the 8 more games is part of the issue. There was no attempt to gradually increase the load, which is a very common concept from professional footballer to amateur player who plays once a week.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 10:23 pmFoster - well, mental health is boosted by playing, Kompany has stated before that is his natural environment, so it isn’t all about his groin, plus, his return has now coincided with us losing 1 in 7 so it seems it worked.

I could be wrong on this but they don't seem to be first building match fitness through gradual introduction into reserve games first.
I remember Dyche being frustratingly big on that actually, there was a quote from him at one point along the lines of players need to build up their match fitness first so they are then ready to be used in the first team rather than giving them first team games to build up their fitness. I presume that is largely to prevent recurrence of injury, which from memory, his teams tended to be good at avoiding.

Perhaps you are underestimating the Chairman's love of selling on and buying fresh wet talent.Goody1975 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 7:59 pmIgnoring the fact we don't know what division we'll be in come August.
If we can keep the vast majority of the squad together, it'll be the first time VK has had a full pre season with a squad to work with. The thought of being more flexible with the option of switching to a 3-5-2 (as mentioned above) and having time to drill the players on this formation will be massive for the coaching staff.
We will not get a settled squad for some years.
Re: Beyer
JBL is on loan, JBG out of contract, the Tresor conundrum (have we triggered the clause to buy him?)... there's a lot of questions where the wingers are concerned. Bizarrely Vitinho has looked as good as anyone on the right wing and he's a full back.summitclaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 8:08 pmI agree on that back 3 being great, but what the hell do we do with all of out wingers?
