Re: Premier League to consider getting rid of VAR
It works pretty well in UEFA competitions and the officiating has been much better in terms of letting the game flow.
If we could learn, copy and replicate the same here then it would be a massive improvement in the current experience.
The recent Madrid winner was a perfect example of how VAR can add value to the game

I suspect Wolves know their resolution will not be passed, but it will make for a serious review of its implementation for next season. I applaud them for doing so.
All you need is another ref and two x-pro’s with foul/no foul buttons review on a 3-1 against the on field decision; it would take seconds for 90% and call out the ‘clear and obvious’.

Re: Premier League to consider getting rid of VAR
I don't watch too much European football but when I have watched Champions League games, VAR and the refereeing as a whole has been a marked improvement on the Premier League stuff, even when the ref is a Premier League ref like Taylor or Oliver. VAR was a good idea, poorly implemented and managed under PGMOL, who i think are the real culprits behind the failings of VAR.
Re: VAR vote
But as per your example, it doesn't. And it never will because it is someone (or some people) making a subjective decision. That's the fundamental problem.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Thu May 16, 2024 12:12 pmSurely it can create clarity during individual games by making decisions consistent. You will always have interpretation across entire game weeks as different referee's will potentially see things differently, but as with my Newcastle game example, there should be no reason why decisions are different during a single match.
I've no issue with it being used for offisdes (aprt from how incredibly slow it is) because in 99% of decisions it is clear cut. The only issue is that the technology needs to be implemented to make it instantaneous. Fouls, handballs and the rest are subjective though (although handballs could also be made clear cut).

Re: Premier League to consider getting rid of VAR
I've said it before on here. It's absolutely obvious why VAR isn't working and isn't the answer to "difficult" or contentious decisions which we all thought it would be. You only have to draw the parallel with goal line technology, Hawkeye at tennis or ball tracking at the test match. In those instances technology makes the decision. It's black and white and although it can still be frustrating, it's clearly shown. But when it comes to penalty decisions and red cards and the rest it's still a judgemental call. We can all look at the same incident at the match or played back on a screen and we could still be divided down the middle as to exactly what had gone on and what the outcome should be. All that happens now is decisions are being made by committee made up of the on field ref plus a bunch of guys miles away looking at a screen. You simply can't have these decisions being made by committee. It's a recipe for disaster. It's no surprise they see things differently and don't always agree. It's solved nothing, but it does make us lot a whole lot more angry when they don't see it the way we do. Just as a superb example, take the Berge "handball" at Forest. Ref thinks it's fine, VAR thinks it's not fine and "in their opinion" rule the goal out. After the match and for days after pundits collectively say it's a very poor call. So how has VAR actually improved that part of the game?? It clearly hasn't. It just shows how pointless it is!

I'm in favour of VAR, Arsenal will be forever ingrained in the memory, the issue I have with it is the mentality to look for ways to disallow goals, swing this around and it's improved straight away.

Usually they release which teams voted for/against/abstained.
This will work perfectly for the first time a manager is interviewed after a game and spends five minutes crying about VAR.

It's the clear and obvious error that is open.to interpretation, it should be just an error in a build up to a goal ie the farce against us in the Wolves game, the penalty v Newcastle we should have had as yhe ref couldn't see the goal therefore couldn't give it, these are the things that annoy people, I reckon all clubs will have similar issues.

I'm sure many in the game are in total agreement with the principle of VAR, but are aghast at how it has evolved.

VAR takes that moment of joy of scoring a goal away from you. Regardless of how it’s implemented, it will do just that. You can’t celebrate properly for fear of a review, then if they give the goal anyway the moment is lost. For that reason I am out.

The problem is the Officials not the technology.
Referees who bottle decisions because VAR will sort it and VAR officials who bottle decisions when it is clear and obvious to everyone but them!

Re: Premier League to consider getting rid of VAR
When do we drop out of the premier league officially?
The vote is in early June, will we still have a vote I wonder.
