Gutted to lose them, especially JBG. Also gutted to hear we’re offering Jay a deal
Why would you be guttted? You might disagree, but why would a Burnley “fan” be gutted that VK has offered Jay Rod a deal. FML theres some weirdos in this world.

Remember that Charlton game where JBG ran the show for them. Best player on the pitch. Just wish he’d been given more opportunity for us in an advanced midfield role. Even this season, ahead of Odobert (who I like), would have made us a better side…

The lack of general fitness and at times lack of real fight (I saw players walking back when the opposition attacked) alarming. Now we hear of cliques and concerns about training standards as we entered the Premiership.Remember the players were brought back early pre season to prepare.
If this is not sorted out,I don't care which players are brought in, retained or sold,we will be mid table at best next season.
I've heard several rumours of players wanting to get out, this can't be satisfactory.Talk about lack of game time for Cork, consider how Benson must be feeling.

Because he's stealing a wage and won't be anywhere near good enough in the championship next season. If we rely on Jay next season then we haven't made progress from 2 seasons ago

Jack: I love the man but did worry about his lack of pace upon returning to the PL. Sadly, he hardly ever featured so no surprise he's going.

JBG: Like many on here, I thought it would be a good idea to give him another season. Really liked Johann and one does wonder how his career might have worked out without all the injuries.

Thank you, chaps.

What I've seen of him centrally he'd offer more than Jay, Jay isn't good enough anymore but would prefer both gone and an upgrade in to be honest

Corky doesn’t sound too happy in his interview regarding being left out despite being the best in training and running the longest distances. Shame to see them both go but it happens.

What, by offering 3 out of 4 experienced players new deals?
VK really can do no wrong in your eyes can he ?

Personally I’m gutted both are leaving.
I think Cork has been treated poorly this year. We have been crying out for some experience and and know how on the pitch this season and it’s hard to believe that with the team he has often selected and how poor we have played that he did not deserve to be given a chance at some point.
JBG is just a far far better player than Vitinho - in every single aspect of the game. And he was a much better player than Vitinho in the championship too. He’s obviously sat down with the club to discuss options and decided he wants to leave. The only conclusion i can draw from that is that VK did not want him to stay enough.

Anyway they are both leaving. Both been really good players for the club and a big part of our history. Corky in particular has been one of my favourite players ever at the club. His partnership with Defour was brilliant - wish it could have lasted a lot longer. He’s been a senior player and a massive part of the dressing room and our success this last decade. He deserves to be treated better than he has these last 18 months.

Sad but understandable to see them go.

Tbh I’m seating some similarities with the Vinnie reign to that of Howe when he was here.
The age difference between player & manager isn’t that great and doesn’t seem to know how to handle the older experienced players.

Don't think we'll be relying on him. He'll be fine as a squad man. I'd rather we tried to get whatever we can for Obafemi and bring in someone who can get us 25 goals. This season has proved we can't rely on Foster unfortunately.

Very surprised JBG is going. Hes a really good player in the Championship and has held his fitness up since Kompany came in.

Surprised he’s trying to retain Jay and Taylor. Whilst I’d be happy to keep both as the squad desperately needs some experience in it, I never thought Taylor was VK’s man and Jay has barely played. I reckon both will turn down whatever we’re offering.

Great service by both players to the club.

JGB probably the most creative player Burnley have had for years.

And Cork banged that top corner goal in so we could book our flights to Athens.

A sad day indeed. Two great servants to the club and they should be proud of their achievements rightly so.

When i hear people talk about players from an era I have never known due to my age, I believe that in years to come, these players will be the ones that I talk about.

The last decade has created many more positive memories than sad ones - to hear both these players give this perspective should be something we all reflect on what indeed has been a very tough season for the supporters as much as the player.

I hope we can get the viking clap going tomorrow as well as there's only one jack cork.

Wasn't particularly looking forward to tomorrow as it really didn't have a purpose but now, I am and wouldn't want to be anywhere else other than showing my appreciation to the both of them.

I really didn’t understand why JBG is being released. He’s a far better player than many VK has brought in. JBG will still be a terrific championship player. I just don’t get that one.
Agree, his versatility is very valuable, plus he has bags of experience and has worked tremendously in a defensive minded role, well drilled by dyche but kompany armed 3 to have brought him on even more. And he's been staying injury free which is amazing. Gutted about this really, I hope they don't get rid of all the old guard.

I would think it's highly likely we offered something to JBG to stay on and he's decided his time here has come to end. He may actually be getting some pretty decent offers to go elsewhere. Cork is clearly different and after barely getting his boots dirty all season it was clearly time to draw a line. He's been great for us and seems to have the right character traits to make a really good coach and manager.

All four have been very good players but peaked at least several seasons ago. Not surprised Cork and JBG are leaving-we need pace and need to move on, and utilise our other wide men more . Of the other two I am surprised Jay has another extension, but I guess in the Championship he can still find the net if called on. Its Taylor I am pleased most about-a very good defender and if he had a better right foot would be at a much better club than ours. He never lets us down, and I think he can count himself unlucky he has not started more often this season. Hopefully in the Championship he can now play in his best position of LB and not CH

I think you can do a lot worse than having Jay sat on the bench in the championship, be a great impact sub at that level. I'm sure there would be a queue of clubs ready to take him for a year or two. I'm over the moon about it

Totally agree.
I think the contribution of the experienced players signed by Dyche IMO was underestimated by the manager last season and his treatment of them this season has been detrimental to our results.

If we don’t replace those players with some other younger experienced players of that mentality we will struggle next session to be successful.

Out of Cork, JayRod, Taylor and JBG I’d have kept JBG. Would be useful off the bench at least. We need a new left back and striker to replace two of these.

The worry is both players alluding to not playing enough or being frozen out which does coincide with the rumours about cliques and training standards dropping, even if the likes of cork, JBG and Jay are in their 30s? If they think they are trying at a high level and not getting a chance they have every right to be ****** off
Although both have been class, neither really have the legs for the Prem now. The only way Cork could have played is if we pushed Berge further forward, because as much I’d like to see him play, no way does he get in the team at the expense of Berge or Cullen.

Good luck to both

JBG has been a fantastic bit part player this season with some vital contributions at times, but I suspect he’d be nothing more than a bit part player again next season in a more physical league

Cork - shame he didn’t get more of a look in but that’s how it goes at times

Time to freshen things up again and we probably already have replacements for both at the club
Wish them all the best and thanks for years of great service

Jay being kept on is odd, especially at his age, but maybe this will be his last deal before retirement, so he’ll be the senior pro in the squad

Taylor is more than good enough to keep on

Not convinced about the whole ‘hasn’t got the legs argument’ cork played pretty much every game until the league was practically done in march, playing Saturday Tuesday. Playing one game a week in prem, his legs would be fine. JBG has also been creating chances in every game he has played

JBG is the one out of those out of contract that I would have kept. What a shame. I posted on another thread last week that JBG had made the most chances for us this season despite playing nowhere near as often as other players. A quality, intelligent, under rated player who has done well for us in both leagues.

Cork has shown his value whenever he's played despite being overlooked at times from SD and VK. Always maintained that we've been a better team whenever he's played. Another calm and intelligent player who's experience and nouse we'll miss.

Wish them both only the best. Thanks for the memories lads.
Completely agree with this.

JBG created a lot of chances when he came on every time. Clear cut, really good chances which is what we were often missing. I’m shocked he didn’t play more & amazed we’ve let him go. I thought we had an option for an extra year.

No, he’s legs were pretty much gone last year. That’s why he kept giving fouls away for dragging people back.

You don’t play 44 games if your legs have gone, having cork and Cullen with Berge being free this season in certain games would have made a massive difference.

The extra control we would of had

I think that was more instruction from Kompany. Tactical fouls like that are a huge part of Citys game under Pep.

Just heard.

No doubts in my mind JBG stays if he starts. Big error not to play him more - was in the Top 10 chances created outside the big six, mainly from set pieces. We needed him but didn’t play him.

Gutting to see both leave. They are the type of people you want to represent your club and it's a real shame for Cork in particular how he's been treated this season. I have no doubts he would have been every bit as reliable for us as he always has been if he'd been given the chance.
A player with immense quality.

If the managers of the promoted clubs are sensible they will be sounding them both out already. Even if they don't playe very week they would be huge assets behind the scenes.

Good to hear Cork is still thinking about coaching and has done his badges. I really hope we see him back at the club one day.

Thought JBG may have been given a year.

Damn, two of my favourites!.. Doesn't get easier no matter how long you've been going on't Turf! Incredible servants to the club - here's to you Jack Cork & Johann Berg Gudmundsson!!!

I referenced JBG above, now a word on Cork.

In recent seasons there has been a broad truth. When he doesn’t play, we lose. When he does play, we don’t. It happened enough for it to be significant.

Amazing he didn’t play last season off the bench in a double pivot, especially when Cullen was injured and we were losing leads regularly.

I suspect the problem is Vinny is very young, and he doesn’t like big opinions and similar ages to him around the place, he doesn’t look insecure, but he gives away a few “tells” that suggest it. Something he needs to shake off. Fast.

Both been superb players in a golden era for us.
Always sad when these type of players leave.
They've both played a huge part at a level that I didn't think I'd ever see us in again. ( without an super-rich backer ).

This type of accusation was made about Howe when he was here, that he couldn’t manage the senior pros
It was unfounded

Sad day but wishing good luck to JBG and Corky in their respective futures.. did wonder if Jack would be brought in to the coaching team.. unfortunately it's one of those decisions that saddens supporters but makes sense to the club's accountants

Sad to see Corky go but not unexpected. I think his contribution has often been overlooked and under rated even in his prime.

KBG leaving has just made a very disappointing season worse

Don't understand the comments re. Charlie. We're in for another major overhaul and we'll need a few older hands. That's what I hoped for JBG but not meant to be.

I’m assuming when you say promoted clubs you mean the 1s coming up from L1.
