As somebody who went to school in Blackburn (starting in 1995 of all years), I can assure you that a comfortable win at Ewood Park will never, ever be meaningless.golden days wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2024 10:32 pmNot even close, meaningless game, that we were favourites to win, meant nothing to us by then, or since

Re: Your best Blackburn moment
It's got to be their steady decline since uncle Jacks money ran out and long may it continue
Saying that even now they are relying on the the venkys to keep pumping the cash in to keep them going
As I've said on here before, the arrogance of them for years
was difficult to put up with, so deluded
Meanwhile we slowly clawed our way back without the benefit of a benefactor
they've now crawled back under their shadworth stones and you hear very little from them
Hopefully we can do them again twice this coming season and put them firmly back in their place

Re: Your best Blackburn moment
As with Fretters above, I went to school in Blackburn in the 90's. The worst year was when they won the Prem and we got relegated. Even before Jack Walkers money, we were playing catch-up, with us in the bottom division and them in div2. The introduction of Jack Walkers cash seemed to make everything so unfair. At one point I thought we would never ever be on a level playing field with them, as they had a £400 million advantage over us, and endless streams of premier league money. Surely they would never cock that up?
I was at a christening when David Dunn scored that scabby equaliser. I was at the bar checking my phone. 93 mins, 94, surely this would be it. I went to a quiet corner to compose myself, refreshed my phone ...1-1. I've never felt such pain over football. At that point i thought we were cursed to never beat them again.
As for my favourite game, it would have to be the 3-0. Believe it or not it was the first time I'd ever seen us beat them live. I missed the 1-0 (Gray pen) as I was at my mates wedding. Such a perfect day to both totally dismantle them and go top of the league.
The 1-0 at Ewood will go down in history though. They will also never live down the fact they bottled giving us that full end. Pettiness of the highest order, and sums them up as a club.
Never take any win for granted against them, we need to keep our foot on their throat for as long as possible and grind them into the dirt.

If you weren't there I can understand not choosing the title win but that was once in a lifetime stuff, witnessing your team winning the league at the home of your biggest rivals is the sort of thing that most football fans can only dream of experiencing and I count myself beyond lucky to have been there.

has to be winning the league at Ewood for me. I was one of the lucky ones who went. Loved seeing this in the toilets there - made me chuckle, looked like it was some kind of transfer not a sticker

Re: Your best Blackburn moment
So many to choose from. As a 10 year old the first away game I went to was the 2-2 draw at Ewood in 1976 where we scored 2 late goals to equalise. That was pretty good.
In the last 10 years the only time I have seen us win at Ewood was the League Cup win. I wasn't there in 2014 or 2023. Although me and a few mates were jumping through the ceiling whilst watching these games on TV it wasn't the same as being there in person so I have to go with the 3-0 demolition.
That was one of the best if not the best atmospheres I have experienced on the Turf. The whole ground was rocking.

But got to be our Ashley’s header last season. The pure joy on his face was something else - he knew what it meant to us ! And the bonus was their keeper nearly decapitated !!!!
But again, Deadwood when Benson smoked that in to win the league - they will never top that !

The first win for a long time in 2014 was immense. However witnessing us win the title at Ewood will never be topped, feel like I should have checked out as a BFC fan at that point because I can't see how we realistically beat that feeling!
My wife would probably point out the times I have said "I only need to see us in top league.... I only need to see us beat blackburn... I only need to see us survive in the top league....I only need to see us play in Europe..."

Winning the league at the shithole & being one of the lucky 2000 in that away end!
That 3-0 home demolition is close, but that was the chance to avenge the 5-0...that'll always be a regret for me that day.
But 9/3/14 will always be a special day!

Fortunately there’s been a few this last decade or so, the first win under Dyche, scottys winner and celebration maybe, obviously Bennys winner to win the league at theirs but for me it’s the 3-0 thumping under Kompany, had everything, from barnes planting their keeper into the back of the net, brilliant performance and then their players having to endure that chant at the end.. just brilliant, helped to wipe out the miseries of the years beforehand when they dominated us

Re: Your best Blackburn moment
Another here for the Terry Cochrane screamer in the late 70s. Watched it from the Nuttall St Enclosure next to the Darwen End, which was also allocated to Burnley fans I think. If it wasn't, it was full of Burnley fans anyway. Noel Brotherston got sent off for a foul on Terry also, which got the Blackburn fans going in the stand behind us. Great game , great goal and great atmosphere from the Burnley lads. UTC.

Spotted this new Pedestrian Crossing light near Deadwood last week ready for next season guiding the home fans to the ground.

I was at Ewood when we got stuffed 5-0 under Stan. It's haunted me ever since. I've never experienced anything close to that feeling before or since.
I can safely say the 3-0 at home win under VK was as close to closure as I've managed. It felt like our 5-0, even if the scoreline wasn't as emphatic. We were far better than them in all departments, even though they were in the top 3. It felt like we were just swatting them off, showing them how big the gap really was... in a very similar way to when we got battered at Ewood.

Was at Ewood when Workington beat them 5-0 in the league cup in front of a crowd of about 3 men and a dog plus 2 clarets ! Away from football the polio outbreak was wildly celebrated in Burnley. The good old days eh
