As I happen by chance to know the lady who does his cleaning, (sounds odd, but true!) I can confirm some things. He lives close to the town, he's a really, really nice guy (although rarely in when she's working there) and he suddenly appeared with a protective boot on his foot and leg sometime during last season which aligned with the talk on here that he'd somehow sustained an injury which sidelined him for a while.
I would back this up as I also have had a bit of insight through connections. He was injured last season and I believe he has been very frustrated by this and his inability to get into the squad. There had been requests for loans and opportunities for him to get some playing time and VK wouldn't allow it so was left in a place of not good enough to get into the match day squad but too good to go out for playing time.

I think his services are in demand elsewhere and offers have come in for him. He's not gone yet and whether a new manager will change things, who knows but if the direction of travel continues as is, he will not be a Burnley player come the end of this window as I understand it.

He rejected a move back to France in the January window apparently because the thought he might break into the squad. Presume he picked up an injury just after?

And that’s where he will be I think next season if new manager doesn’t think he will play.

Lets say for arguments sake Berge stays, would leave us with Berge, Cullen, Brownhill and Massengo centre mid options.
Would be pretty strong at this level and even as 4th choice you'd think Massengo would still see plenty of action.

I've no idea if he's good enough, obviously for his sake and ours I sincerely hope he is.

But that aside, how refreshing is it to see this intelligent and thoughtful young man speak so genuinely and positively about the town, the people and the spectacular surrounding countryside which really is some of England's finest. We should all be very proud of that.

Let's hope he gets his chance with us. He might actually not be good enough in the end, but it seems there's a whole bunch of us hoping on his behalf.
Regarding the injury last season I definitely felt it was a real shame about the timing because he was featuring on the first team bench and getting an odd cameo appearance and was clearly on the fringe of getting some serious minutes if he could impress, but his chances were railroaded unfortunately.

I'm glad he's nice and I hope he does well but if you want a discussion on the footballer then it's interesting to ponder how an 18 year old can go from being a £7.2 million signing to being loaned to Auxerre by a Championship club.

Of course, Rowls could be right and it was just Pearson being bloody minded but for a club like Bristol City to pay that much and then watch him leave as a relatively free agent at the end of 4 years must be a bit sobering for them. Not least because it shows how hard it is to develop and nurture talent and how long it takes.

A defensive minded midfielder alongside Cullen would have been a real asset and with Berge and two wingers would have made a classic double pivot 4-5-1 so it was a great pity about his injury.

Pity VK didn't conflate his opinion on the Pennines with his footballing ability as much as some on here because we might have got 25 points.

Actually, I'm being pathetically churlish, I really look forward to him playing next year and if we can keep the other 3 we will have very strong midfield..

Of course nobody knows whether he’ll be a fan favourite, he needs to play for that to be confirmed or otherwise, but I completely agree that all the signs are there. He’s a young lad that seems to want to be here and do well, and is making all the effort to understand the history and culture of the team and area.

It was mentioned a lot last year that people feel a disconnect between fans and players, and I agree. We need characters and personality; whether it’s Massengo or not remains to be seen, but we do need someone, there weren’t many (or any) obvious candidates last season!

I think the likes of Odobert and Kolosheo did really well for such young players. And like I say above Trafford carried a big weight...! Had Messengo played as often as Amdouni then we might not be having this discussion.

VK let the players down and the club. how anyone can criticise young players who were sent out in a high press single pivot against the likes of City is beyond me.

If it had been me playing for us last season, I would have been sticking my head in a bucket off poo and crying for my mummy after about 6 games.

And that is your basis for believing he'll be a fan favourite if and when he gets out on the pitch
I'm absolutely in the 'really hope he does well' camp.
I find the way he promotes the town and people on his Insta incredibly refreshing. Embracing a different culture with artistic style, whilst coming across as a nice lad. This is a young player who hasn't had much game time at all.

I genuinely hope he becomes a top player for us, and if he did, could definitely seeing him becoming a cult hero - purely based on what he has done so far off the pitch.
