Should have added, if they ever erect a statue of Jimmy, hopefully some money and design effort is put into what it stands on and it’s not just a few blocks of reconstituted sandstone slapped together by the local brickie.

The Freddie Truman statue in Skipton statue is good.
One like that would do nicely.
At Burnley CC or in the Town Centre On St James street.
Please.

We know he started at Burnley CC but his achievements weren't with the cricket club - it's the town who should be recognising him and prominently in the town centre.

Excuse me? James Hargreaves was my granddad - not the plumber though.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 2:19 pmIf we can name one after the town's best plumber, surely we can name one after the worlds greatest ever fast bowler.....

Re: Jimmy Anderson Way
A few nice quotes admittedly, but these are local politicians/councillors. Nowt to get excited about here, they have chatted, and clearly one or two are fans of the game and Jimmy himself, but the fact we don’t have something already is a worry. Someone making a soundbite for the local rag means nothing. The Labour deputy comments are quite poor, (she seems to be saying what they have discussed it and agreed what they are doing - reading between the lines she’s happy with that) but you chose not to include those?dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 9:15 amDid you actually read the article before you all started firing your bullets…. Selected elements of the article include
* The authority is also to consider what other steps it can take to honour the record-breaking fast bowler.
* "What a career. I don't know what we're going to do in Burnley to honour him and I hope he comes back and teaches our kids how to bowl.
* "I hope we do more than name a street after him.
* "I hope we name a stand at Turf Moor potentially after him - or name a cricket field stand."
Exactly what you were asking for…..

I absolutely get what you're saying there, but there's an actual cricket ground next door where he actually played cricket on.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 2:19 pmIf we can name one after the town's best plumber, surely we can name one after the worlds greatest ever fast bowler.....
