Stan's first captain was Stretch Armstrong but it very quickly passed to Steve Davis when we signed him. Wasn't Graham Branch Stan's last captain after Davis left?1989_claret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 10, 2024 9:53 amSteve Davis was my first captain when i properly started going home and away under Stan and i used to love his marauding runs driving through the middle of the pitch so i'd say him.

You're probably right CT but Davis was the captain for the majority of the first seasons under Stan when i started.

Re: Favourite ever captain?
I vaguely remember it being a very odd setup where Branch was club captain but May would still captain the team even when Branch was playing. I could be wrong, was my first season of watching us so I must have been about 12

According to Glen Little on the Undr the Cosh podcast, May was nutted in training by Stan and stormed out saying he'd never play for us again. The next morning, he was sitting in the dressing room and somebody said, "I thought you were gone?"
He replied, "I'm captain now!"

Can you imagine Stan managing these days? It would be on TikTok within five minutes!

For me Steve Davies, Martin Dobson, Steven Cauldwell, Tom Heaton in their time were good leaders
Tom Heaton you could hear him from the stands and even on televised games bellowing out instructions

Jimmy Adamson stands out as captain for many years of his 13 with the club including the Div 1 Title winners, European Cup Quarter final, FA Cup final losers and being named Player of the Year.
Few others have been captain for more than a few seasons.
