That gym workout is incredible. The levels you need to be at to be a professional player nowadays are almost superhuman.

Agree. Another brilliant video. No idea why this content has stopped recently but good to see it back. Well done the club.Goliath wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 2:27 pmThis is exactly what some of us were going on about last week in relation to the lack of good media content.
Even from just watching one or two of these i suddenly feel a lot warmer towards and closer to our squad as a fan. These videos build that bridge between players and supporters brilliantly.

I'd imagine they were waiting for this kind of trip to produce this kind of content: much more interesting doing it in Spain than at Gawthorpe, when most will just go to the canteen for lunch and then go home after training.
Good for the players as well in this environment as they've time to kill together and can get bonding.

Have to say, as someone who has been in to weight training most of their life some of the form was shocking. Need to get JJ in with them and slow it all down for a start!
But what was brilliant was seeing Parker go around and acknowledge everyone at the end of the session. Heart warming.

Fair point, but I think overall we could’ve seen much more content that would’ve dispelled many a myth on here over the course of the last season. Good to see it up and running again though.dvalley69 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 5:41 pmI'd imagine they were waiting for this kind of trip to produce this kind of content: much more interesting doing it in Spain than at Gawthorpe, when most will just go to the canteen for lunch and then go home after training.

I say them as I see them, so as a Parker doubter, will say I’ve been really impressed by him in these training videos; joining in, some really good words of wisdom I think, some really positive man management, looks overall like he’s creating a good environment with music going, etc. The proof will be in the pudding, but winning me over for sure.

I noticed this even last season. Lots of jerking the weight/bouncing the weights and then poor form as well.NewClaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 5:43 pmHave to say, as someone who has been in to weight training most of their life some of the form was shocking. I've seen CJ on more or less everything - I wouldn't be suprised if he ends up being a bench player/rotation DM/'6'.northeastclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 9:47 amGoing back to who is and isn’t training with this squad.

When we signed him he came with a lot of pedigree and is quite highly thought of. Still only 21!

Re: Clarets Touchdown In Girona
Thats good, there’s a good player there. I was also hoping Dodson would compete at LB this season , particularly as we are short in that position . Not sure why we extended Costello’s contract , thought it expired last month, perhaps we didn’t and allowed him to continue to train with us ?CoolClaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 10:16 amI've seen CJ on more or less everything - I wouldn't be suprised if he ends up being a bench player/rotation DM/'6'.

Re: Clarets Touchdown In Girona
I know they’re probably trying to build muscle in the same way I am when I hit the gym but there’s no control at all, reps are way too fast and some poor technique in a few instances. Digressing but isn’t what I’d expect from an elite athlete gym session…!CoolClaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:17 pmI noticed this even last season. Re: Clarets Touchdown In Girona
I've not seen the video but would expect footballers to be doing lower weights with fast reps to get strong but not cumbersome.
In Kevin Keegan's book, he talks about running up and down terraces while doing dumbell excercises, as he didn't want to become slow when he bulked up.

Good stuff. JBG playing golf so his injury can’t be a bad one. Nice to see Berge back on the grass. Looks like Amdouni went straight into main training.burnmark wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 12:53 pmNext video update:

I'm out in Spain at the moment. The heat out here is blistering 36 degrees at 6pm last night. Must be torturous if they are doing outside training.

Loving these videos, brilliant footage.
Also good to see Parker having a little personal chat with Amdouni and giving him a pat on the back. Looks like good personal man management.
Hountondji looks an absolute unit as well.

Re: Clarets Touchdown In Girona
Digressing again, but exercise science has progressed significantly over the years. Recent research indicates that explosive lifting primarily enhances explosiveness in the specific lift being performed, rather than overall athletic performance, i.e, the explosive exercises are a demonstration of power, not actually a way to gain power. Moreover, when lifts are performed 'explosively', the excess strain placed on athletes' bodies often outweighs the potential benefits, making such training methods questionable in terms of risk versus reward.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 1:30 pmI've not seen the video but would expect footballers to be doing lower weights with fast reps to get strong but not cumbersome.
In Kevin Keegan's book, he talks about running up and down terraces while doing dumbell excercises, as he didn't want to become slow when he bulked up.
In contrast, general strength training provides a foundational baseline of power that can be applied more broadly. Interestingly, even Bruce Lee incorporated isometric exercises into his routine, which by nature aren't explosive but still contribute to overall strength & muscular control and he certainly didn't have any issues with his speed!
For athletes like footballers, the key is applying strength gains made in the gym (done in a safe and controlled manner) to the sport-specific skills that they need: running, jumping, tackling, shooting etc.The focus should be on maintaining sport-specific speed by training their sport hard & often (which i'm certain they do) and keeping mobile/agile and minamalising the chance of injury with a safe lifting routine.
Weight lifting for athletes should really be supplemental, just strengthening muscles to protect soft tissues and add general strength.
The outdated 'muscle bound' concept often came from overemphasising lifting, especially hypertrophy, at the expense of sport skills, aka spending too much time in the gym and not enough practicing ones sport.
Some strength coaches can get overly focused on numbers and lifts, especially those with a power lifting background, forgetting that strength training for athletes really should be supplemental.

Parker simply has to be a good manager for us considering the players he has inherited. Otherwise we are in for a mediocre season.

Re: Clarets Touchdown In Girona
Parker is a little bit 'droll'. He has a little bit of Dyche and Ternent about him, which personally I like. He doesn't get too high when he wins, or too low when he loses. He's a little bit suspicious of the media and chooses his words carefully. He has a resting 'bitch face' which I totally empathise with. However, he is a winner, even when the odds are against him. We should get behind him and the players, no matter what. Let's hope he can keep the players he wants to keep.

The proof will be in what he dishes up on the green stuff tomorrow but I’ve really warmed to him in these interviews. He seems a nice guy.
Love that he’s introduced music. That’s a smart move to liven the atmosphere.

Tomorrow is irrelevant. Just like so many good or bad preseason performances that have come before it.
“The proof” will slowly begin to dawn a week on Monday.

Re: Clarets Touchdown In Girona
I'm definitely with SP following all the interviews: seems professional, serious, modern, thinks slightly out of the box and understands the Championship is a real grind and hard work, and it sounds like he's trying to create a working environment that is enjoyable for everyone to come in and work day in day out with good habits. I imagine it can be pretty dull & monotonous being a footballer at times on a daily basis, but having that fun working environment and having the crack with the lads and working hard together gives that motivation. Hope SP gets selection right and we can get off to a flying start and build that momentum. UTC!

Even after that game it was a little up and down for a few months.
We have to give Parker time. It’s self-defeating to do anything else.

Just think this time last year we were the 20th best team in England and the smoke and mirrors campaign was about to begin and by mid September the chosen one was turning into the stubborn one .This time round the directors may be a bit wiser and not be baffled with bullshit.

I agree that tomorrow is irrelevant and I’d far rather we lose tomorrow in a meaningless friendly in 34 degree heat than a week on Monday… but a confidence-building win with some good football would be nice.
