Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
We’re putting out the strongest matchday squad in the championship and by some distance.

Was hoping to see the back of Trafford in goal and Vitinho on the wings 🫣
Oh well UTC let's get 3 points

This is what I arrived at - Benson for Vitinho if it’s not going to plan.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 7:03 pm———————Trafford

I guess?
The Berge transfer must be further along than we were led to believe if he is not included.
Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
Trafford might have a chance if we are not as open as last season.

Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
Perhaps Berge really is just injured? He didn’t play against Cadiz due to a knock. I know we had all of this before with Tarky’s toe, but O’Shea is starting and has just as much speculation around him.

Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
Couple of unfortunate (injured?) absences and one surprise on the bench but a very decent looking team/bench. Hopefully good enough to get 3 points but I suspect Luton will set off fast and furious.

As I alluded to earlier. New manager, gets on differently with different players.Nonayforever wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 7:07 pmObviously a clean slate for everybody.
Just as it should be.
Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
Think with Trafford we need to stop any negativity and treat him with respect, it feels inevitable that he'll be moving on so let's just reset the narrative with him and be kind!
Great starting lineup and bench options, come on clarets 3 - 0 win

Precisely this. it's a fresh start for everyone at Burnley Football Club - as you say it's a clean slate for everyone, time to get behind them.Nonayforever wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 7:07 pmObviously a clean slate for everybody.

A side who maybe with the exception of needing Berge in there could have survived in the PL.
Esteve, Cullen and Koleosho were all missed last year at times.

Good of Wout to grace us with his presence
Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
I have my own opinions on Trafford and one of them is he can’t command his area and come out for crosses, so why throw him in against the physicality of Luton especially after the late equaliser last season against them is beyond me. Easy team talk for Luton so hopefully Trafford will get some protection. That to one side great squad and selection. COYC NNN UTC

Look at that bench.
They make pretty much every other Championship starting 11.

Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
How good it is to have the season back up and running. That’s a strong looking side with good options from the bench. Sounds obvious but Luton’s set pieces are a big worry. Hope we get off to a flyer.
Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
Luton with 2 young academy players starting, one in cm and one cb. Another young lad making debut at cb too alongside Mengi (who is usually very good). Like the move of Vitinho at right mid (presumably) to help stay on Doughty. UTC.
Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
Anyone watching the clubs videos during the Spain trip could have clearly seen he’s injured. He also missed the Leganes friendly.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 7:09 pmPerhaps Berge really is just injured? He didn’t play against Cadiz due to a knock. Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
Re Trafford, maybe Parker thinks the new keeper needs to earn the jersey, which is exactly the criticism VK got for dropping Muric at the start of last season.

Sorry but if Weghorst comes on and plays well, I'll be happy. If that displeases some, so be it. It's in our interest in this match and also to try to generate interest from other clubs.

Comes on, scores the winner, then says on Sky afterwards he wanted to stay last season but VK didn’t want him. I can dream can’t I?

That as well. He’s clearly rated far higher by those who work in the game than a lot of our fans.

Really can’t wait for tonight. Our bench is incredibly strong.
Luton 0-2 Burnley.

Some say it may be better to have a settled side than Berge playing and then leaving, but this season is all about promotion. I'd rather give ourselves the best chance by playing the best players and get 3 points, regardless of whether they are off.

It's not cold in Luton is it?
Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
Trafford is so bad he was with the England squad and Chelsea and Newcastle after him. He’s a kid chucked in the deep end by Kompany when he wasn’t ready.

Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
Unsure about the keeper choice, especially given the opposition and also not sure I'd be picking Vitihno as yes, he's all heart, but we've seen enough over two years to know we have better options I feel. We'll see. (Shock news about Wout and could just be a master stroke!)
Re: Luton v Burnley Match Thread
Trafford will be perfectly ok playing in a different system .

I spoke to some Bolton fans recently who said in his first season he was weak in the area but came back stronger the 2nd season and was brilliant. They are confident he’ll be England No.1 one day
