Make a point to watch him for 90 minutes and you'll see it. He jogged around ducking away from receiving it today unless he was wide open with the touchline next to him. He's absolutely nowhere near top of the Championship level.

Re: Josh Laurent
He's been on the losing side once in a Burnley shirt
We've been losing for a total of approx 45 mins whilst he's been on the pitch (over 2000 mins)
Millwall away he started and was taken off 10 mins after they took the lead
He came on against both Norwich and Hull when we were losing. We equalised at Hull and scored twice to beat Norwich
Whether you like him or not, the stats suggest he's contributing to our success
Although I accept there might be other stats to suggest Cullen / Brownhill / Hannibal / Shelvey might contribute more in his place

Re: Josh Laurent
Utterly dreadful in a 4-0 win hmmmmm
Also (and it’s been done to death on here so no need to reply) but it’s acknowledged our small midfield gets overwhelmed without a physical presence.
Kind of disappointing you can’t see that? maybe you’d be playing 3 Ossie Ardiles or 3 Glenn Hoddles in midfield
Re: Josh Laurent
Josh Laurent was very poor last night, him and Pires stood out as clear technical weak links. It’s an eye sore watching him try and turn on the ball from deep, so so slow and zero confidence to look forward, it’s what could have led to his red card. I just can’t see him as a top 2 player. Sheff U have the same type in Souza who is levels above. I wish Parker would try Hannibal with Cullen but it seems that’s not happening. Good squad player but should leave it at that, for me.
Re: Josh Laurent
I think the reason Laurent had a difficult game was due to a tactical tweak. Cullen seemed to drop into a back 3 leaving him isolated at times. In short he wasn't able to do what he normally does.

Re: Josh Laurent
I've been pleasantly surprised with Laurent, I had zero expectations of him as I knew nothing about him prior to his arrival.
He has had some very effective games for us, and some very quiet ones, like last night.
Personally, I would use him in a tight 3 against your better sides, to utilise his height strength, power and pace, to provide a bit of protection for the likes of Cullen Brownhill and Hannibal, but perhaps leave him out against teams we are expected to dominate possession against, where these qualities are not required as much.
He isn't as technical as the others and I just don't feel we should stick with a rigid 11 just based on previous results, rather tailor it depending on the opposition, much like he does with Pires and Humphreys.

Re: Josh Laurent
Don’t think Laurent was poor last night. He just didn’t quite have his usual impact on the game. It was very congested in the first half, so he possibly didn’t get the opportunities to carry the ball in the way he often does.
Overall tho, I have come to think he’s got to start for us. He brings something different to the midfielder. It’s been a long time since we had a big, physical presence in the midfield.

Re: Josh Laurent
The only point I will make about Laurent last night is that he covered a shed load of ground. I think a lot of that was a tactical decision, because as good as Edwards is he’s not gonna cover the ground.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2025 6:40 amJosh Laurent was very poor last night, him and Pires stood out as clear technical weak links. So I will give him a pass for last night as I think it allowed others to flourish and ultimately win us the game

Re: Josh Laurent
I’ve said it before, he’s an athlete, a good physical presence and is clearly a good character who is well liked by his teammates. But he isn’t a good footballer. He is slow and clumsy on the ball. He may well protect the back four but he hinders the team to play better, more progressive football. This is why Stoke sold him for £500k.

He’ll have to make way for Brownhill for the next game.

Re: Josh Laurent
Laurent is perfectly fine for a physical battle and running power, but he is nowhere near good enough technically which is where a lot of our play breaks down , which is possibly what people are seeing in terms of his poor performances?
He gives the ball away or is caught on it far too many times, and in home games I think he is the one that requires sacrificing .
