Sunderland’s second penalty
Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
Ref was far to ready to give iffy penalties to ensure he got his 5:1 for his tenner.

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
The first one.. no idea, mind boggling. The second one is 50/50, VAR would just go with the ref there whichever way he called it. Changed my mind myself a couple of times.
Flemming isn’t a pen, he should have buried that.

He gave the second one for handball which it was and not a foul.

If that’s no contact and you’ve seen it on the TV I suggest you buy a new one .

I suggest you watch the Clarets+ match highlights particularly the last view of the 3nd pen. Sonne was in a straight line (silly in the pen area). The attacker stops the ball as Sonne slides past but loses his own balance and puts his foot onto Sonne.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 3:14 pmIf that’s no contact and you’ve seen it on the TV I suggest you buy a new one .

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
2nd was debatable.
I think it was soft and probably not a penalty. Sonne had already gone down but why would he do it? Just no need. It is in relative safety. They get given against teams that aren't Liverpool, Man U, Man City, Arsenal, etc.
I think Parker was sensible with his comments.
The 1st certainly wasn't a penalty. He might have been offside. I'm not even convinced it was a foul (I know he touched his heal) but I'm still uncertain about it. Finally,

No,can’t agree with you there Sonne slides through and as the guy turns he catches him ,and I’ve just watched it again in the Sky recording, even SO didn’t dispute it .

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
Just counted up and it’s 22 to 11 say it’s a pen ,and if you consider we are biased in favour of our team then it seems pretty certain it’s a pen because they’ll be a few in the 11 with claret and blue specs on.

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
We won't all agree on the 2nd Sunderland penalty, but maybe we can all agree that the referee wouldn't have had any decision to make if Sonne had stayed on his feet and not made such a mess of his challenge.
Trafford got him out of jail.

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
I’d like see how many times this season the refs have failed to give second yellows to players that have deliberately pull us back when we’ve been attacking late on ,because there’s definitely been 2 in the last 2 matches.

Perhaps they should all watch the Clarets+ highlights closely.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 4:47 pmJust counted up and it’s 22 to 11 say it’s a pen ,and if you consider we are biased in favour of our team then it seems pretty certain it’s a pen because they’ll be a few in the 11 with claret and blue specs on.

You're wasting your time. He hasn't got a clue.Stonehouse wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 5:23 pmWhy would BFC fans say that it was correct for the ref to give a pen against their own side?
It's a pen. End of. Most (if not all) refs would have given that.

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
97th minute, an innocuous challenge in the bottom corner of the penalty area with both players getting in a bit of a tangle.
AND HE GIVES A PENALTY TO THE AWAY TEAM.
My guess is he's reacting to the Sunderland fans desperate appeals.

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
Wasn’t a penalty. Thought it was while at the ground but TV clearly shows it isn’t. Sonne slides it (stupidly) but pulls out of any challenge. Their cheating left back, who was at it all game with his antics, then bought the penalty by moving into Sonne and falling over him, the ball nowhere near.
I see Sky commentators and Keith Hackett all agree with my take on that.
Justice was done at 0-0, draw a fair result.

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
We’ve been refused more blatant penalties in many games this season
This one was not a penalty

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
Cirkin fouled Sonne. It could/should have been a yellow card, possibly even a red, for Cirkin.

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
You said it there Cirkin's foot landed on SonneMDWat wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 9:10 amI’ve seen a thread on the first penalty, which I think every man and his dog agree can’t be a penalty.
But the second one seems worthy of more debate. It looks a clear penalty to me. Sonne unnecessarily slides in and whilst Cirkin’s foot lands on Sonne, I’m not sure where else he’s supposed to put it and he’s only putting it there because Sonne has slid in and got nowhere near the ball.
I’ve seen plenty of people argue it’s not a penalty.
What’s the consensus?

Re: Sunderland’s second penalty
Sonne handballed it whilst on the ground after the coming together. That was what the penalty was given for.
