called ticket office, who were helpful, but told me I couldn't enter friend + child as they didn't have a Clarets Number.

Need to sort that out before entering ballot in future!

Hopefully have 300 more cheering on the Clarets this evening!

I really don't see negative comments on here, I know you're desperate to see some, but I think people are just discussing how it was done, not in bad way, it's called a forum for people to discuss these things.

Sorted a pair of tickets for my nephew and his mum for tonight. Only been on a handful of games but always loves it and asks to go back.

My sister, as a single parent, can't really afford to get season tickets, or go on loads of games so this was a bonus. Might not lead to season tickets next season or the season after, but somewhere down the line, it hopefully will.

I took my lad on for his first evening game tonight thanks to Alan, he’s been before but got bored and we left at half time previously, but he loved every second tonight and wants to go on against Sheffield Wednesday now.

This is exactly why this type of initiative should be way more commonplace.

Not everyone can afford to take their kids to a football match. Way more can’t than people realise.

Every empty seat on match day is a wasted opportunity to give a child an experience they’ll never forget, hopefully create a fan for life and a future season ticket holder.

Well done to Alan for doing this and hopefully the start of many such initiatives.

If this is the case they should really advertise that clarets numbers are required to enter so people can do this in advance. It’s in the clubs interests to get them registered.

What would you say is the right price to get those who either aren't bothered about gong on, prefer to watch in the pub or prefer to watch illegal streams to get them to change their habits ?

For many, on a cold, blustery night with the game on TV, against Hull, even a free ticket won’t be enough to tempt them. For some it will. Cheaper tickets, even at say £10 won’t be enough.

If we get back to the premier league, which is still quite in doubt given we’re 3pts behind 2nd and those above in good form too, fans will flood back to watch us play against the bigger teams. More of our games will be on Saturday too.

Fail to do so and the whole ticketing strategy and pricing needs a major rethink.

One promotion they should bring back for ST holders is a ‘bring a friend’ type option where they get a big discount on a ticket to encourage fans to get their mates out of their living rooms/pubs, etc.

Yeah, we had 2 spares in our group last night due to lads being shift workers, these were both free and were offered around to others and only managed to use 1 of them. They were both free and people didn't want to go on as it was cold and on TV.

I agree it’s not a perfect solution, although I would argue I’d still be willing to go and not sit directly with a friend for the entire match. Much of it is about the journey with them in the car, the pre-match pints, walk to the ground, catch up at HT, journey home, etc.

I’d say most know when people around them might not be coming as well - people around me are all friendly and say these things but also you get an idea of peoples habits, games they do and don’t attend, etc so I’d say people know when there’s a good chance there will be a spare seat near you. Last night there was one seat next to me, four in front for example.

The club could also issue some guidance to wait till KO or just after and speak to a steward about locating spare seats together. It’s imperfect but workable.

The club need a better long term solution. It’s clear a lot of ST holders aren’t turning up to mid week or unattractive matches, but giving away free tickets isn’t a sustainable solution. Giving ST holders an option to bring a friend cheaply becomes a perk for them and gets them on board with bringing people along.

Have to confess, I’ve also struggled shifting my odd spares this season. Hard to draw too much from it because they’ve always said they have other commitments, but it’s been much easier in previous years. TV is a killer, meaning the club have to find other ways to put bums on seats.

I have a friend who is a ST holder at St Helen’s rugby league. He gets to be able to “bring a friend for £5” twice a season . As his son sits with him they both adopt me as their friend for this purpose so I get 4 games a season for £5 each. Don’t sit next to them but can always find somewhere fairly nearby. It’s a good initiativez

I won’t go in to details of people I know in these situations but it amazes me how some parents have no interest or willingness to take their kids to a football game.

I know parents of kids who love football, play it every waking minute, yet their parents won’t take them to a first or second tier game in their own town. Grinds my gears.

In some senses though, that’s exactly why the club should target these groups. They could do it through football teams or schools where the coaches/teachers supervise them. Although I do like how Alan did this, encouraging parents to take their kids.

Burnley college should also be hit hard with free/cheap tickets for unsold matchdays. Loads of kids there are actually in the town on matchdays but don’t go on.

That’s interesting because that’s exactly what I meant - a ST holder benefit of a much reduced ticket price for a limited amount of games per season.

The problem with giving free tickets in the way Alan did for this game on a regular basis is it devalues the product and annoys people who are paying for tickets. Plus some fans will stop buying in advance in the hope of getting freebies nearer the time. Doing it this way makes it a benefit of being a season ticket holder.

As you say, sitting directly next to the person isn’t going to put everyone off.

Considering coming up for the Sheff Weds game with my lad but reluctant to buy tickets yet though incase Alan offers us free ones !
