I went to a pub in a nearby village for Sunday lunch today and was having a bit of banter with the owner about my favourite beer having run out.
A man sitting at the bar asked me where I came from, When I told him he said " I was playing golf yesterday with Roger Eli."
He said he was a former footballer and had played against Burnley in rhe Sherpa Van final. he is Micky Holmes (or Homes) and had been strechered off after a tackle from Paul Comstive.
He was in Bradford for a celebration of twenty years after winning some title and had been at the match.
He also played against us for Torquay in the playoffs.
Remember him well, wasn't he at Burnley on trial for a period of time before he went to Wolves?

I seem to remember it being mentioned.

Bradford City always had and still has big potential. Sadly the ground is not in the best location

Good story here about Micky Holmes, and talking about Burnley and Wolves meeting each other, particularly the 1988 Sherpa Van Trophy Final where it was the last game he played for them before being released.

It confirms that he trained with us for a couple of weeks in 1985 before joining Wolves instead, where he will have also have been a team-mate of Roger Eli for a short time '86-'87. Given they're the same age presumably might have played with him at schoolboy level for Bradford Boys, so maybe no surprise he namechecks Roger as his best mate in football.

Speaking as a Bradford-born Claret with a few Bantams-supporting mates I'm quite happy to see them doing well, particularly with Grezza in charge. I've always been happier to be a Yorkshire Claret along with many others for the last 48 or so years though!

Are you one of the Yorkshire Clarets that seemed to go in their kop end every time we went there?
