Not to be a downer, but our academy does not seem to produce first team players. So it is really pointless.

I've not really been following it that closely but isn't the youth setup doing pretty well now?

A few players making first team appearances, playoffs and cup finals.

Doesn't seem to be have done that bad a job. He came from Boro with about twenty years experience in their youth setup.
He didn't come from Middlesbrough although he had been there for a long time. He moved from Boro to Hartlepool and then worked in America. He was part of the ALK team who purchased Burnley and came in initially as Technical Director. He's now our Director of Football I believe.

He became our Academy Director on September 2021 but was replaced by the bloke from Shrewsbury who wasn't good at using WhatsApp and he's since been replaced by Chris Casper.

The sole purpose of an academy isn't to generate talent for the 1st team. It's also a profit generating centre in producing players to sell on, as you see at a lot of the big premier clubs. Not many go on to first team football, but lots leave for fee's

this is what we should aim for, a scenario where our academy generates income for the club and not necessarily create first team players - which at Chelsea is an exception to the rule as highlighted here https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/ar ... r83389eqno

Yes, my point was more that he wasn't just some ALK appointment who knew nothing about academy football.

He's down as Director of Football Development (I've no idea if that is different to Director of Football). Like Lee Mooney he seems to crop up quite often on those panels at seminars and stuff presenting on various topics.

But ultimately, despite the bumps in the road, the youth setup seems to be doing ok so far as I can tell from the outside looking in.

As said, he moved away from the youth department following the disastrous loss of Cat 1 and we brought in David Longwell and then Chris Casper. His own Linkedin was where I saw Director of Football but he was working with/for ALK before they bought Burnley although I'm not sure what he could have been doing, maybe promoting AI Scout.

Mooney, of course, is a Kompany man. He's still involved because I spotted him sat up in the directors box after the Sheff U game with Parker.

just to add to this -Jenkins role with ALK prior to the takeover was to assess the football side of the various clubs they were looking at (us, Sheffield United and Southampton that we are aware of - there maybe others, particularly outside of the English pyramid). His analysis would have fed into the business plans and decision as to whether to bid. I wouldn't be surprised if he was involved in similar activities re KV Kortrijk and Dundee and probably a number of others.

Incidentally a number may not be aware (unlike you CT) that Russell Ball was also part of ALK prior to the takeover where he was doing analysis from a real estate perspective (and possibly operations) which was much more his area of expertise.

Ball was involved as you say and was at Burnley from the start.
