Same as most things, there is decent produce out there but on the whole people don't want to pay the price for it
People want to pay 89p for 12 easy peelers and expect the world.
There's some decent fruit and veg at the grocers in rosegrove, or clitheroe market as mentioned.
Alternatively if you want supermarket prices try M&S or Booths. Slightly better quality, but not market quality
