I saw fat Ronaldo play against England in the Umbro cup in 1995. Didn’t know who he was at that point, but by the time he’d finished running our defence ragged, you knew this lad was special!
Also seen Messi live in his prime playing for Barca; a ridiculous player to watch as he made adult professional opponents look like children!

I saw Shearer play for England in the mid 90s so being honest, it’s probably him.
Just to throw a different name in the hat, and I know he was on his way to retirement at the time, but I still think Samuel Eto was absolutely class for Everton in that one match at the Turf, you could see he’d been right up with the best.

Although Jimmy Greaves would be my first choice I think Ian Rush was up there with the best.

I can't remember if he even scored, but he was mesmeric and I'd never seen dribbling and general ball control like it.
Other than the proper big boys like Ronaldo, Rooney, Kane, Shearer, Haaland and Andy, Andy Payton - shoutout to Darren Bent on the Turf for Ipswich. And Ricardo Fuller was mega was Preston.
Got an injury time winner from the Penalty spot following an outrageous swan dive from Aaron Ramsey if it's the same game I'm thinking of...
