Having had a look at it, he might have been his PE teacher in year 7 or year 8 before leaving to persue his coaching career. Might even have coached him too. Football is a small world!

Re: Jack Cork
Pretty happy with this signing if, as expected it all goes through. Good passer, reads the game well and more importantly from my opinion, a leader. May not be the type to go charging round firing players up by shouting at them, but leads by example. Conducts himself well both on and off the field.
His defensive capabilities may come in handy at times too. When trying to break through the ranks at Chelsea, he played at centre half, a position he sometimes played in the junior England set up.

Seems a good solid signing. Always liked him in his previous spells. I'd imagine he's the only Claret ever to have the middle name of Porteous.

I noticed that. Some middle name. What was father Cork thinking? Obviously being one of the Crazy Gang affected him.1963Claret wrote:Seems a good solid signing. Always liked him in his previous spells. I'd imagine he's the only Claret ever to have the middle name of Porteous.

Re: Jack Cork
Three words of caution
(1) He doesn't carry any firing power, and our midfield is weak in this respect.
(2) Never sure it is a good idea to come back to a club that you have been successful at even if only for a short period.
(3) I'm not as convinced as others that he offers anything significantly different, what he does do is provide us with some solidity in that department when injuries/suspensions come
For me this another SD type signing that is likely to provide stability rather than excitement.
He is a good player and probably confirms SD is going to go with 4-4-2.

Superb signing. Along with Walters he is another established Premier league footballer oozing experience.
A quality addition to the squad which is quickly becoming a solid group of top flight players who will keep us in the Premier league for a good few years.

Re: Jack Cork
Only a couple of decent strikers, a potent winger, a playmaker and a solid defender will do that.
This is a decent signing who will have to prove he is better than Westwood.

Re: Jack Cork
Whether it is all over fb or not is hardly relevant. It wasn't done yesterday but it is done today. He's flown to Ireland and it is now just a matter of when the club choose to announce it. We will have to work with Swansea so both clubs confirm the transfer at the same time.lrac wrote:He signed yesterday .I have no reason to lie .it's all over fb now

Re: Jack Cork
Actually 3 paragraphs of negativity.
He will have improved greatly since when he last played for us. He will now be in a side that is far more improved than when he left. At 28 he is in his prime. Please at least give him until the next transfer window before we write him off. This is a good signing.

Re: Jack Cork
Not writing him off he is a good player, and we need more bodies in midfield.
A lot will depend on the future of Gray and Defour before we can make real sense of this window.
For me one potentially exciting signing, one good, necessary but unexciting signing, and one I'd prefer not to have happened.

That's my assessment at present Sidney, but a lot will depend on Defours future and whether if he departs we replace him with a similar player

Steve Kindon. Leighton James, Martin Dobson, Brian Flynn, Steve Davis, Robbie Blake, Ade Akembyi and Joey Barton might disagree with this.ablueclaret wrote:

2) don't use never and always with regard to sport.
3)you make it read like he's been signed for the bench. I'd doubt it. Ball retention better than anybody we have. Unless they both play he'll be ahead of Westwood in midfield.

Re: Jack Cork
Well the last two were classic examples of best first time, most of the rest came back to the side when we had dropped several divisions from when they first played, and none were as good as when they first played.
The only one who really bucks the trend is Blake.
As you know Sidney I feel Walters was a poor and unnecessary signing.

Not sure he'll be in the starting line -up straight away, although he might be if SD has brought him in to play a holding midfield role which I doubt.
