with the amount of balls we put into the box I would expect him to get double figures that's for sure

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
If it is two from Wood, Andone, and Long, then I'd like to think Wood is the back up plan - because although I think he's a good player, I think Andone and Long might cover more of our requirements (forward to add something different to Vokes and Barnes, option of pace out wide). But Wood is still a really good plan B, and it sounds as though he's keen to come, which counts for plenty.

Possibly Boatshed -but I think it is quite likely we're after 2, particularly if one is Andone. We've needed someone to fill in on the right hand side all summer, and both Nixon and Boden have consistently indicated we want a winger. But nothing appears to be coming to fruition in that regard, so one of the attractions of Long might well be that he can play wide right as well as centrally, especially in a 4-5-1. In which case, there'd still be a role for another striker.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
I'd hope 2. I felt we needed another striker before Gray left. If we were to end up with a choice between Wood, Barnes, Vokes & Walters we'd be pretty one dimensional.

I suspect Wood is the replacement for Barnes and would certainly be an upgrade. Then Andone and Long to replace Andre and add pace. All three would be perfect.claretspice wrote:If it is two from Wood, Andone, and Long, then I'd like to think Wood is the back up plan - because although I think he's a good player, I think Andone and Long might cover more of our requirements (forward to add something different to Vokes and Barnes, option of pace out wide). As if we are going to get 2. Seriously. Just get someone with pace. So not wood. Sam, ash and Walters are fine for the big lads.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Wood has never really impressed me when I've seen him play (despite his impressive tally last season) and I can honestly say I'd much prefer to stick with Vokes as our target man. Barnes will never be prolific but offers plenty in holding the ball up and bringing others into play (as well as being a fantastic nuisance). In my opinion we should only be focusing on landing a mobile, pacy forward that can finish - and ideally one that can offer something out wide.

Nixon tweeted that he expects we will get the deal done for Wood and there will be something in the paper tomorrow.
Sounds promising.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Looks as though we've got him. Daily Mirror reporting that he's leaving the Leeds camp in the North East (they play at Sunderland tomorrow) to travel down for his medical.
Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
I will be pleased with this signing if we can couple it with either Long/Andone. He's a good player but we are crying out for someone that can run the channels with pace/craft. Unless Dyche plans on using 4-5-1 in the majority this season...

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Excellent news. If we can get an upgrade on Vokes / Barnes we cannot say no even if a quick Gray replacement is also a priority.
Plenty of big lads have gone on to be excellent Premier League players, probably the best I can recall is Sheringham but even recently there are examples although strikers tend to be buys from overseas who haven't got Championship history.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
To add to the above. A mate of mine (who has contacts in both camps) has also told me tonight that it's a done deal and Wood is signing. I scoffed suggesting he was winding me up and hoping it wasn't true, as he was suggesting it will rise to 20m, but hey ho my judgement is reserved until I see him play for us.
Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
If we are in for another forward Ashleys time could be up. If we aren't going for another Clucas type then Dyche might switch to 4-4-2 if one of the central midfielders get's injured. That or we are going to play 4-4-2 at home.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
If we can get him for 15 Million plus add-on's i will be
,even if he doesn't work out we should break even,if he scores circa 15 goals over the season, we could well turn a decent profit. Just need a CB replacement for Keano now, and we are well set for a good season.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
£15m is a good price considering Leeds fans were demanding £25m+. They seem to be suggesting Wilson, Deeney and Austin as viable replacements.
Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
That delusion never wanes does it! Saying that, just had a very civilised conversation on twitter with a Leeds fan. He seems to think Wood didn't play in their first round League Cup tie with Port Vale so could be available on Wednesday.Slurpy wrote:£15m is a good price considering Leeds fans were demanding £25m+. Quickenthe tempo, but we wouldn't get them, let alone little Leeds.

I'm not entirely against the signing, I'm just a little confused as to why we are signing someone so similar to Vokes.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
It`d be a sad day if Barnes left us. He adds something with his unique skill set which often leads to free-kicks and he ruffles the feathers of the best defenders. Has the knack of scoring important goals too. He also has good link-up play and the ball certainly sticks. I for one think it would be a big mistake to lose this. There is no suggestion he wants to leave, is there?Slurpy wrote:If we are in for another forward Ashleys time could be up. We are desperate for pace, not knocking Wood in the slightest, but if he is the only attack minded player we bring in it will be daft.

Did they not reject £16M from the unnamed PL club? Sounds strange they would accept less.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Signs tomorrow would be available for Ewood. Not bad to have the championships top scorer from the season rovers went down probably on our bench. That's the difference, that's the gap, that's how far we have come. For a little more context, top scorer in the league above where they are now in the relegation zone!!!

Just hope there's a more mobile/pacey alternative coming in too.

Whoever has said that you can't play two target men upfront? Think it's a brilliant option to change a game, either from the start or second half option.
Re: Bid Accepted for Chris Wood
good signing and cheap at todays prices. We have replaced one Championship top scorer with another and made 3 million
this one though can hold the ball up and play a bit.

its a safe signing,Lad who knows the English game well
better than a punt on a fancy name from deportivo ,or that preville bloke? Can you see either of them two scraping ice off a windscreen in December.

For the figure quoted I'm not even sure it's a safe signing.
Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
Can't see the problem people have with wood
He can play as lone striker, holds ball up,physical 6 3
Very good header of ball, great right foot, penalty taker
And as just scored 30 goals last year.
We have got top scorer and made 3 million.
Again fantastic business by Burnley football club
Congratulations to all concerned.

Re: Bid rejected for chris wood
The problems are that we have signed a relatively limited footballer for an awful lot of money. I doubt he'll add anything more than Vokes can do and it suggests our forward line will be based on balls into the box rather than artistry. It is an uninspiring signing and poses further questions of our scouting/recruitment team.
