EDIT: Best football song: "Football's coming home, it's coming home" - even if the Germans sing it with more conviction than the England fans.

Re: World cup thread
Just because the definition includes "in the opinion of the officials", doesn't make it undefined.Spijed wrote:"the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand) "
Can you tell me if it's a penalty if the player slips on the floor but his hand goes towards the ball, like in today's game - Argentina v Iceland first half?
"the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)"
So can you tell me at what distance a referee should give a penalty?
Where is the definition in that, other than in the opinion of the referee?
Until they perfect mind-reading technology, there's always going to have some element of subjectivity in whether something is deliberate or not.

The Danish make excellent TV. The Killing, The Bridge, Borgen.
Edit - There is another Danish series on Netflix called The Rain. Haven't seen it yet though.

Re: World cup thread
leave your foot in, wait for the player to make 'contact' then fall over.
cheating and if the refs can't see that even with the benefit of hindsight then i am watching the wrong game.

A definite penalty says an ex pro footballer.
We're never going to beat it.
Re: World cup thread
Blatant penalty so much so VAR shouldn't have been needed. It was so obvious in real time. Terrible penalty miss.

Re: World cup thread
if ex pro footballers are an authority on football then all football fans don't know what they are watching.
btw does an ex pro who played for burnley have a better knowledge of football than stanley old boy?
does ronny rosenthal know more about fouls than me?
