Yes in my opinion that brief stint a few seasons ago Brady showed he could be a capable winger at this level.

I can honestly say I have never thought Hendrick was decent for us. I can’t even remember one game where I would say he was MOM.

I still think Brownhill has shown more in 8 games than Hendrick has in four years.

Hi Rileybobs, if there's no competition to sign Jeff Hendrick, then I don't expect he will be offered/paid a signing-on fee.

Take a look at what The Times is reporting, today, re Spurs signing Joe Hart. I've underlined the bit about possible wage it's suggested that Spurs have offered.

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to complete a shock move for Joe Hart as they look to recruit a homegrown reserve goalkeeper.

Hart, 33, has 75 England caps and is available on a free transfer after leaving Burnley. The former Manchester City goalkeeper is set to sign a two-year contract with the option of a third and is expected to undergo a medical today.

Hart was earning £50,000 a week at Turf Moor, which is more than Tottenham were willing to pay him. It is thought Spurs have offered around £35,000 per week. Chelsea had also considered a move for Hart.

Tottenham have too many players who do not count as homegrown, which restricts the size of the squad they can name.
There's a pretty good chance that he will be paid a signing on fee. As well as an incentive to join it's also used as a mechanism to reduce salaries somewhat thereby not upsetting existing players and lowering the base level when re-negotiating. It also means that you can capitalise an element of the signing and have it come through as amortisation rather than wages.

That’s why I clearly said Gibson was Dyches worst signing ever.

At least Brady has shown flashes, all Hendrick has shown is he is not good enough
So a manager signs Jeff Hendrick player - plays him in 122 of the 137 Premier League games he's available and you think he's shown he is not good enough. What a load of nonsense. You must have a very, very low opinion of our manager.

Bruce today: "It's practically a done deal so we hope Jeff can join us over the weekend. I'm delighted to get him on board. He's an experienced international footballer."

Steve Cotterill said the same about Richard Keogh

... apart from the experienced international footballer bit

Cotterill said we were going to sign him on the Friday and then said we weren't on the Saturday. From what I was told the club jumped the gun with the announcement at a time when his agent was asking for more money which scuppered the deal.

I remember either reading it or hearing it on the radio where Steve Cotterill while commenting on the signing that Richard Keogh phoned him to double-check the deal, and he jokingly said that it was concerning. Then he signed for someone else

I think the conflicting views about how good Hendrick was for us are based on a misunderstanding of what he actually did for us.

For me, his best quality was his willingness to self sacrifice for the good of the team in every way. It is easy to pick out the obvious things that players do when they have the ball, but what they do off the ball can be a lot harder to notice and appreciate, even though it is just as important. Hendrick did his own job, but he also spent a lot of his time doing things that allowed our other players to shine more brightly and stand out in terms of the things they were doing.

Hendrick was the archetypal team player and by placing the team above himself he shone a little less brightly on an individual basis. When all is said and done he was played out of position for almost all of the time he was with us. Imagine what opinion some might have of Cork and Westwood had they been used as attacking midfielders or right midfielders for a consistent length of time.

If the Newcastle deal goes through they will be getting a quality player for next to nothing. In direct contrast we just watched a £10m+ asset and a good bloke by all accounts leave us for nothing.

However. I agree for the most part but he's moving from one club with low possession rates to another with even less. There's a chance he'll find himself sidelined or on the wide midfield again. If his move was because he wanted a central midfield role. He's got just as much chance as here. People more in the know than you or I seem to think it was because he was playing out of his favoured position. Which makes this decision more perplexing.

Not sure about this. Depends who you speak to. There's people like myself who've been openly critical towards him yet I'm fully aware of his role(s) in the team. I enjoy studying the game and in particular find movement off the ball interesting.

If you refer to the people who boo him in the stands, who expect him to be taking on players and having a burst of pace, well that's something else.

I don't think we'll miss him, we may miss having an extra player if we don't recruit more, but already Brownhill looks the much better player to me.
There's no doubt he did his bit for the club and he was definitely a Dyche favourite. Dyche clearly had a plan to use him as a 'false number 10' or whatever you call it but he rarely played well and generally had poor player ratings.

His role on the wing was again him (like Arfield and Boyd before him) being grafted away from his creative intent and more toward work rate and he did okay and did what was asked of him.

But if he was good enough, he would have cemented his role in CM which I expect is one of the reasons he left us. He probably just wants to play more in his primary position.

So I agree with those who were critical and disagree to those who think we'll miss him. I think we need players who stand out more and don't go missing so much in games. I also don't think you can assume he's a good or bad character when you don't know him personally, especially given the charges against him regarding violent disorder.

With the right recruitment we should be able to find someone a lot better to play in that right wing role. Someone more similar to McNeil who is able to dig in and work hard but also deliver a lot more when going forward. But you already know this from your recommendation of a right winger in you other posts.

This move to NUFC is taking forever! Even more drawn out than Hendrick's move to Celtic which some ITK posters on here announced earlier in the year....

Did make me wonder but think it’s certain now Bruce has spoken.
