Re-sign JBG before he signs for someone else, please, Mr Pace
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Nothing to add here other than the 'peak season's discourse is becoming a bit of an outdated trope.
As tech, medicine and coaching have progressed, you're now seeing more and more players contributing well into their mid, in some cases late 30's nowadays.

Tom Heaton recruited as goalkeeper coach by England surely worth approaching Tom to take up a position with us as our gk coach has left.

Fulham set to sign Jacob Bruun Larsen for £6m.

Good.
We don’t need another winger, if we did I’d sign him in a flash, and he did well so deserves a chance. The EFL is more for a youngster to burst through, likely to be Koleosho and one other on the left for us, then if we go up then have another go at the Prem a year later.

Aye agree. Don’t get too many deals done at that kind of price these days.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 3:34 pmGreat signing for them. Peanuts for a 26 yr old winger that's proven himself in the PL.

Strange one.
Not overly bothered about him even though he was our top scorer this season. Shows how wrong the club have got things recently where you just don’t care about the players.
Probably a decent move for him. Likely to get double his salary and a chance at some premier league football. (Although not sure he will start very often for them).

Doesn’t actually say he’s set to sign for them, just says Fulham are moving for him. The choice between us and Fulham will be easy for him make though won’t it. Premier league football and London living

So he's 24 at present and according to you is nearly over the hill. Let's see, I'm 72 ...... bloody hell I'm on borrowed time already. Why does every day have to last 24 hours? I can't remember yesterday and tomorrow seems an eternity away.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2024 8:01 pmDoes he really have time on his side? Twine will 25 when the season starts. He’s only really got 5-6 seasons of peak football left

Bruun Larsen very close to joining Fulham, as reported by Nixon.

If the lad was 21 I would agree he’s got plenty of time to develop into a premier league player.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 4:05 pmSo he's 24 at present and according to you is nearly over the hill. But at 25 Twine has more than likely found his level. A decent mid table championship player. There’s nothing wrong with that. Time to sell up and get some better talent in.

I'm not commenting on his ability but 24/25 seems a tad early to be talking about how long he has left to impress. Look what happened 'down the road' last season and he is definitely years older than Twine.

Really not that bothered about missing out on JBL.
He is a lovely footballer but he wasn’t anywhere near quick enough for a PL winger. Don’t think I saw him beat a man with pace in all the games he played.
Good luck to him but our money is better spent elsewhere.

£6m is an absolute steal but I would understand if he didn't fancy a 46 game slog next year
But we need to get our manager situation sorted so we can begin our rebuild ASAP

I don’t understand the “pull of London” it’s an absolute cess pit of a place which is vastly overcrowded.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Been talking about this with a few mates lately, you only need to look at the Euros squads for this to see the names still in there (several who you'd expect to actually play a lot too):
Ter Stergen, Neuer, Kroos, Muller, Nacho, Jesus Navas, Modric, Vida, Perisic, Schmeichel, Kjaer, Tadic, Lewandowski, Vertonghen, Giroud, Ronaldo, Rui Patricio, bloody Pepe, he's 41 and put in a very good CL performance this season against Arsenal. These guys are all over 34. There's guys I'm leaving out too, big name quality players who are north of 30 like Gundogan at 33, but this is just over 34s.
England are unusual in that we top out at 34 with Walker, then Trippier on 33. We're blatant kids in comparison, Mainoo was less than 1 year old when Modric debuted for Croatia.
Players will play for longer, and remain top level for longer, just like they're running down contracts more. It's not just sports science in terms of physio, diet, training, recovery, but medicine- stem cell therapy alone could massively prolong playing careers once it becomes more widespread. I've been expecting a tipping point on that for a while, the last 5-10 years have seen huge breakthroughs in that tech especially in the USA, once it proliferates here, the game changes. Young players aren't going to be valuable just for potential but for the sheer longterm lifespan they have, but players in their mid-late 20s will become more valuable too, as they'll have more time left on average, and still room to grow, but also experience.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Me either, but let’s face it, it’s one of the leading cities of the world that young players will be drawn to.
That said, I do think the regeneration of Manchester is now a major advantage for us. They’re building the 2nd & 3rd tallest skyscrapers now and have a 76 & 71 storey in planning that I think will be the largest residential towers in the UK, or up there in the top 3. It’ll have a very decent skyline in the next 5 years so and for younger players who want that type of city living will be far more appealing than it was say 20 years ago.
I’m not saying it’ll be London levels, that’ll likely always have the edge, but I think the gap will be closed and we’ll have an advantage over many other cities that we didn’t have before (given that’s where all of our players live).

The club has 30 ‘senior’ players as things stand, five more than EFL squad rules permits. But as we know, departures are anticipated this summer.

Also, eight of the 25 have to be classed as "homegrown" players (i.e. registered with any club associated with the English or Welsh FA for at least three years prior to turning 21).burnley007 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 7:58 amThe club has 30 ‘senior’ players as things stand, five more than EFL squad rules permits. I think we currently have 12, namely Trafford, Muric, Vigouroux, Taylor, Roberts, O’Shea, Cullen, Brownhill, Redmond, Twine, Obafemi and Rodriguez. Again, a number of these are likely to leave, either on loan or permanently, which may mean we need to look at buying local talent for at least some of our incomings.

We will be absolutely fine then.
Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Ramsey is 21 so isn't counted in the 25. Massengo joined Bristol City after his 18th birthday which may mean he isn't classed as homegrown but I may be wrong.

Andy Jones:
- Assignon deal collapsed (we pretty much knew that already)
- Sambo about to be announced soon (pre-contract agreement)
- 4 or 5 first teamers expected to leave, including Trafford (that wouldn't be the end of the world)
- quieter window expected regarding incomings

I wouldn’t expect either to leave this summer, Beyer will need next season at least to get his value back up to where we’d want to sell, Esteve would take a huge bid.

Maybe, but I'd be moving heaven and earth to keep berge (unless he wants out)
Don't forget 10m VK + 15-20m Trafford + 5m Weghorst is a good starting point for sales

Didn't say they was who I'd get rid of, Zaroury went out on loan and didn't perform well, Benson didn't get many minutes I'd imagine both will want to go of we keep the likes of Tresor, Koleosho and Odobert.blatherwickstattoos wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 4:43 pmSame benson and zaroury who were fantastic for us at both the start(AZ) and end(MB) of the last title winning season ??
Same goes with Ekdal he's said he wants to play which is unlikely he'll start many if we keep O'Shea and Esteve

I don't see a huge exodus of those that will be around the first 11 other than one or two.
Pace and Co are speculators. Free market capitalists don't tend to view debt as being an inherently bad thing.
As the post above suggests, all things being equal we're at a starting point of c30m clawed back already.
If we can shift the likes of
Beyer (assuming he's going)
Delcroix
Al Dakhil
Roberts
Brownhill (stupid not to sell if he doesn't sign on)
Any number of our attacking options of which we could sell 4 or 5 of and still be fine.
Then there'd be little need for anyone else to be moved on.

Because history usually says when teams get relegated their better players move on, I’d be surprised if Berge especially is still a Burnley player this season
