Looked quite promising in the championship. But he’s relatively
Similar to Twine in that he’s approaching an age where he needs to be playing regular football and he’s just not going to get it at Burnley. I mean let’s face it 10m quid for potentially our fifth choice CB is remarkable money.

Both chasing the same players at the minute. Sarmiento and Jaidon Anthony.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 8:46 pmAhh well I think the size of our squad will probably put the player off, more chance of game time at sheff and Leeds with their lack of wingers
Leeds also most likely destination for Benson right now too, although he will probably be £10m to a “promotion rival”

I like Anthony but I think Sarmiento has a much higher celling

We need to get some of these players over the line now on the back of two wins. It could be a different conversation at the weekend if we don't do well against Sunderland.

So you would prefer to keep an impact sub that can play 20 mins for 10 games a season rather than a talented regular starter?

He won us the most points of any player in that season with his goals.
Played a lot more than that in the Championship not his fault Kompany was an idiot in the Prem.

Re: Summer 2024 Transfer Window Discussion - Rumours and Links welcome
Well firstly your response ignores that we have a lot of cover at LW. So my first question back to you is: is Sarmiento better than Koleosho? (Certainly won’t work harder) Or Anass? Who are you dropping to accommodate him? Does Anass or Sarmiento have better stats at Championship level?
Thats before you consider Redmond plays off the left and it’s also Tresor’s best position if they ever get fit/come back.
On the right we have Vitinho, playing out of his natural position to accommodate Roberts I imagine, and Benson.
So yes, I would rather we keep right sided player than accumulate another left, but he also happens to be a player who is loved by the fans, is a champion at this level, won us the league at Ewood and can change a game when he comes on in a way I don’t think Sarmiento will or could.
Most on here were up in arms that Benson didn’t play more last season and complaining of too much needless movement in the squad, then all of a sudden we’re all pro getting rid of him for a Brighton youngster with worse stats?

Well they’re definitely not similar players because they play on opposite wings.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 9:47 pmI don’t think they are similar players at all.
Surely Sarmiento is the Odobert replacement
Sarmiento played every game off the left last year. Unless we plan to change his position and move him in to the 10, he won’t be replacing Odobert? If we are changing position, a bit of a risk!
Is he better than Koleosho or Anass on the left?
Is he better than Amdouni in the 10?
I expect he might be replacing Anass, by the way, and I’m not his greatest fan but he has better stats.

With all the money we have coming in, we should honestly test Sunderland’s board with a big bid for Jack Clarke and offer benson in return.
Koleosho can easily play on the right if we signed Clarke

Playing Odobert in the number 10 away at Luton was a risk and it worked.NewClaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 10:36 pmWell they’re definitely not similar players because they play on opposite wings.

You say he has better stats than Anaas, but both zaroury and Sarmiento were on loan in the championship from January to the end of the season, and Sarmiento was certainly a better player in the division last season.

I suppose a big thank you should go out to those posters and their supporting cast for providing great entertainment and drama for those of us simply happy to let things happen.
I'm pretty sure many of those responsible for signings and departures at the club haven't got a clue at this stage who is staying or going.

I think the opposite, for me koleosho doesn’t have the technical ability yet of a winger playing on the opposite side, he’s direct runner, I think he would get more assists from the right being able to run in behind and cross the ball with his strong foot

Pretty telling that benson hasn’t been involved in the first 2 games, was barely involved last year and wasn’t anything like a regular starter the year before.
He was great as an impact sub back then but he probably wants to be more than that and fair play to him. I’d be willing to bet 22/23 with us will turn out to be the best spell of his career though. 10m is an excellent fee in that context, if we can get it out of Leeds.
We’ll always be grateful for Ewood.

We are selling players who have shown that they can perform at PL level and replacing them with Championship level players. Sarmiento would only have stayed at Ipswich if they hadn’t been promoted. Hannibal has only shone at Championship level (Birmingham) but has failed to make the grade when stepping up a level (Manchester United and Sevilla).PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 10:59 pmThink a few are a bit peeved that it’s quickly becoming apparent the transfer strategy is working.

I don't think it's lack of appreciation, it's more the lack of understanding of those who call him a legend.
A bit like those who call Kevin Ball a legend because of one tackle, a tackle that possibly cost us the game, but there you go

To me not just Benson but the whole team were legends, only losing x3 games all season, breaking 100 point's in a season, winning x10 game's in a row, going x22 league game's without defeat and lifting the title at Ewood, legends the lot of them including Kompany
