Looking likely that we’re not getting Ramsey. Fingers crossed we have another good option.

Are you sure? England closes at 23:00 - which is midnight across most of Europe. Does Europe close at 23:00 European time?RalphCoatesComb wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 10:01 amHopefully, our negotiators remember that the European Window closes earlier than ours![]()

If we are truly only signing one player today we are no further forward than a month ago (perhaps further backwards) and this window really has been a disaster. We are waving the white flag.
Also, why on earth does it take us so long to get any transfer over the line. Pretty alarming.

Since we're in desperate need of a winger and being linked with a Belgian, whatever became of Adnan Januzaj at Real Sociedad? Can't imagine he'd cost too much and there's a good player in there even if he's lost his way a little. Far too late in the day now mind.
Gosling would not be an improvement over anything we have in age or ability. Hope there's nothing in it because that really is last resort.

Whilst true, didn't Fulham do the same last season?Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 10:01 amMaybe the fact they’ve just spent ****loads of money & haven’t finished spending not guaranteed form will improve but with more quality players at their disposal common sense would suggest some sort of a uplift, it’s far more likely than the other way around.

Wolfsburg have announced the signing of Jonas Wind, decent buy that, and likely Weghorst's replacement. They seem to have had that deal wrapped up within about two days.

From the BBC:
Ramsey not Wolves bound
Simon Stone
BBC Sport
There have been rumours of a Wolves move for Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey.
Ramsey has been frozen out in Italy and is open to returning to the Premier League.
But I have been told Wolves are not one of the clubs expressing an interest.

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
You are correct if we are only signing Weghorst. At the start of January when the window opened, many of us were saying we needed two midfielders and possibly a striker. We then had the surprise of our main striker departing to a relegation rival, albeit for a decent transfer fee.Papabendi wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 10:06 amIf we are truly only signing one player today we are no further forward than a month ago (perhaps further backwards) and this window really has been a disaster. Now it looks like just Weghorst is coming in to a league which is far tougher than the one he will be leaving. It could take him several games to even get used to the pace of the Premier League and also be facing better defences. Without having players who can put their foot on the ball to give him decent service he will be feeding off scraps or poor balls hoofed up to him from players who treat the ball like it is a hot potato.
So one month on we now look considerably weaker than we did at the beginning of January. Yes we put up a good rearguard action against a mis firing Arsenal, however let’s not kid ourselves we can do this week in week out. The only real positive is the club will have made circa fifteen million in the transfer window. Sadly I am not optimistic about our survival chances. I sincerely hope I am wrong.

Trippier
Wood
Ekitike
Targett
Henderson
Guimaraes
Nketiah
Burn
Will suddenly start winning games? That is an almost unprecedented squad turnover. Applecart upsetting much? Not to mention, Trippier and Targett apart there are question marks over the rest of them to a huge degree.

Newcastle are still in relegation trouble. Throwing money at random players rarely works, and they have one of the last managers I’d want in a hugely pressurised relegation scrap.

No guarantee just a strong likelihood they’ll do far better than the players they are replacing. They’ve got a very strong blend now & more powerful bench options.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 10:30 amWhere is the guarantee please that a club that has, or is about to sign:

Paul Crichton
Steve Davis
Tom Cowan
Ronnie Jepson
Lenny Johnrose
Mickey Mellon
All of them were much better than the players they replaced. Except for Cowan they were all mainstays of the side who got promoted the following season.
However, nothing gelled until we added Paul Cook to the mix.
The question for Newcastle is, have they got a Paul Cook figure in among their new signings?

I’ll settle for WW and a decent midfielder today.
As for Newcastle, as soon as their new players lose a game their wonderful amazing fans will be on their back abusing them, shattering their confidence.

I do wish that this WW transfer would finally go through. I was expecting news as I logged in. But, even if this is the only signing, it just has to be a major upgrade from where we were at the start of the window. The loss of Wood was a surprise but, as has been pointed out by many posters, he has been useless this season. He wasn’t that great to begin with but had certainly lost any edge that he might have had in the past. Newcastle will find out, to their detriment, that they have been sold a pup and an extremely expensive one at that.

Why is Dan Gosling even on the list?
I believe it's so the other players can take it in turns shouting across the car park 'Dan !.. Dan !.. Dan !'

Regardless of anything else, Newcastle have signed 2 excellent team players in Guimaraes and Trippier. They will ensure better performances throughout the team. Without question I would have taken them for the Clarets.
I've no doubt Newcastle have ensured their survival with these 2 - provided, of course, they stay fit.

Re: January 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
At this late stage I can't understand why we aren't looking the at likes of Knight and Lawrence. Derby are just as desperate for money as we are for new players so fee and wage shouldn't be an issue. If it's too late to bring in quality players from overseas then it would be better taking a punt on these types of player than aged average players like Gosling.
If we don't bring anyone else in apart from Weghorst I just hope ALK stick with us and rebuild in the championship next season. I just don't think we will stay up with what we have had all season, apart from WW replacing Wood.
