I am pretty confident he will be in the net this season. Unless he pushes for a loan deal perhaps.

If Pope does stay then Kompany's desire for passing out from the back will either make or break him as far as potential to reach a top 6 club. It is his only weakness - if he nails that, he is a flawless goalkeeper in all respects, in my opinion. His shot stopping, decision making, cross claiming, command of the box and everything else is without criticism.

I hope he does stay and can't imagine any move is going to promote Nick higher than Pickford or Ramsdale in Southgate's eyes.
He can stay put and still go to the World Cup as a squad player and VK may even improve his distribution.
Here's hoping the likes of Pope, Collins and McNeil are excited about the season ahead.

Popey in a great spot, he gets a decent move now or leaves on a free in 2024 as a 33 year old english goalkeeper.

Hill City have made a £3M+ bid for Scott Twine.
Scored 4 at the end of the season at Plymouth. Each finish was very accomplished. Looks a player.

Only point I’d make is, I can’t believe it is beyond him to play well in a system where you need to play it out from the back.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:20 pmIf Pope does stay then Kompany's desire for passing out from the back will either make or break him as far as potential to reach a top 6 club. The issue with Pope’s distribution is the accuracy when clearing the ball under pressure or from Goal/free kicks. Which is a weakness, I agree.
I can’t imagine Kompany will want his GK to skin an onrushing striker and would still expect him to clear his lines under pressure. So surely that just means he’ll be playing short for GK’s, free kicks and with the ball in his hands. Presumably he’ll find that much easier than the long kicking he’s been doing? He looked very competent in the last few games where he did that more.
It made me wonder to what extent our own tactics have been hindering his chances of playing for England (vs his ability) and how many Keepers would have much better distribution if constantly asked to kick long.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
The style of building from the back is completely different to what we were doing even under Jackson. Every goal kick the two cb’s will go alongside him in the penalty area and he’ll be expected to join in the build up play, sometimes under pressure from onrushing strikers. It requires a good first touch, ability to play quick, accurate passes and sometimes the vision to play it to a midfielder / full back who isn’t marked.NewClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 3:04 pmOnly point I’d make is, I can’t believe it is beyond him to play well in a system where you need to play it out from the back.

If it was thought he could do the above then I’m sure Eddie Howe have would have signed Him already for Newcastle. It will be interesting to see if he can adapt or if Kompany will have to adapt his tactics slightly.

the one thing you need in the Championship is a keeper who can take crosses. There is no better than Pope

Pope is unlikely to make any "noises" himself and certainly not ask for a transfer as that i believe negates any sign on feekenyon6923 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 2:40 pmPopey in a great spot, he gets a decent move now or leaves on a free in 2024 as a 33 year old english goalkeeper.
But if Newcastle do come knocking, he is back in the Prem, and most likely doubling last seasons wage, never mind his current reduction
Loyalty to Burnley can only stretch so far

Players tend not to take a big hit in wages first year which is why you see larger parachute payments, hence why a lot stay, it’s the second season the big reductions come in.

Much more believable. Back when I worked I found that if asked price/cost/budget a job I came back quoting 'one point two million'' I would face a barrage of questions and debate; if however, I reported £1,198,326.00 with a suggestion that we 'call it one point two million' everyone was happy to go with it. Then again, one definition of a Quantity Surveyor is: Someone who can guess to two decimal points.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 12:44 pmActually, after research on the topic, I've now settled on 94.7%

Pope looked alright for the few games after Dyche left. The only difference was players didn't turn their backs on him and wanted the ball.

Lancs Live linking us to Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill, free agent former Arsenal youth player, playing in Netherlands.

Definitely a meh signing if it’s to replace Taylor!!!
Can’t really say I know a thing about him otherwise but looks okay on the ball and say more suited to Kompany’s style than Pieters for instance.
I do think we need LB cover.

I'm more excited by a 22 year old prospect than a 33 year old has been that we usually go for. I'm assuming Kompany knows an awful lot more about football than any of us on here
edit: just seen he is 26, **** that Kompany out

Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I can get a “meh” view if it’s a player that has been watched - not so much based on an article on a notoriously terrible web site.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Why do you have to be excited by the first signing?
Maybe it’s the first because it’s the easiest to get done. Maybe it’s an U23 signing and nothing to do with the first team. Maybe, just maybe, we might be signing other players after him and it would be idiotic to pass judgment on something so quickly.

It’s a link on the terrible lancs live paper. But seeing as you asked. We need a left back, one that obviously is prepared to be a back up, and fits Kompanys style, so with 26 being a decent age and on a free then I wouldn’t be against it. I haven’t seen him play though so it’s all I have to go off

But suppose if its cheap cover signing hoping he never has to kick a ball in anger, and allows us to put more finance into other areas of the starting 11 its acceptable.
He's literally league 1 standard at best.
Although I genuinely feel we've just let a better LB walk out of the door.

Isn’t that the highest level he has had played? He left Swindon on a free transfer to Helmond, then left them on a free to Dordrecht and left them on a free to excelsior. They have also decided not to keep him.

Being released from the clubs he has in the order he has, has shown a steady decline we often see with academy players released from big clubs.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 15, 2022 7:42 pmIsn’t that the highest level he has had played? His latest release is from the Dutch 2nd tier, it's not a great standard
Reminds me very much of our former RB Luke O'Neill type career path.
Hopefully I'm wrong and he sets the division a light, but I'm rarely wrong, so won't be holding my breath.

So you have judged a player as being really poor and League One at best despite knowing nothing about him other than a few clubs he's been at.
Sounds like you have an innate ability there.

just a reminder that Chelsea paid about 100 million for Lukaku. I'd say THAT is a meh signing for that kind of money
