Given the very small profit made on a player who has now had a season of PL football and a decent scoring record maybe Alan has learnt his lesson and won't be including 'release clauses' in future contracts. It makes no sense to limit the possible sell-on value of a player in that fashion.

It is more likely the clause has come from the player and his agent side, especially once relegation occurs.

Sometimes you are faced with 2 options have these clauses or miss out on the player. It is like the Trippier deal it took some a few years to grasp it and still even to today some don't. I can imagine the comments had we not signed Cornet and then it came out we didn't sign him due to not agreeing to a release clause in his contract.

Or, the more likely scenario, is that Maxwel Cornet, Ivory Coast international and Champions League pedigree player from Lyon, would not sign for Burnley unless there was such clause in the contract.

The likes of Trippier (back in the day) or Cornet, or even Collins, don't sign / re-sign without such clauses.

We are a magnificent, but medium sized club, and thus face challenges on occasions getting excellent players over the line who long term back themselves to go onto bigger and better things.

Yeah I can understand that is the logic behind agreeing to those things at the time of purchase but when you look at foreign players who triple their value after one season in the PL - it would be wise to avoid those kind of arrangements whenever possible.

We have been announcing signings after 5pm. Not saying we definitely will today but that’s been the trend so far.

Who say's there's a delay. All recent signings have been unveiled on Twitter as far as I'm aware, I expect Benson will be the same. In the meantime, the club have to do their creative media work and press releases etc. What's the rush?

That as well but what some people naively don’t realise is that until you are 100% sure all the paperwork is signed off you can’t officially announce you can be 99.9 but you can’t jump the gun well you could but you’d be rather foolish for doing so.
