It’s not as clear cut as that. Scott Parker said, after the games on Saturday, that he expects Trafford to go and that he will have a word with the owners as to whether we have any funds to buy a replacement.
He's hardly likely to tell the world he's got millions burning a hole in his bomber jacket.

Or he's downplaying the fact we'll have taken a bumper fee and need a replacement keeper. I would be amazed if he isn't replaced with a new signing.

When confirmed I think Xhaka could be the signing of the season.

An amazing bit of business and I would have happily taken him here even at that price.

Is there any concrete links on Livaković?
Scouring the Croatian media I can't find anything other than him being linked with Milan.

We’ll do well to finish 20th if the Trafford money isn’t released on new signings, and then some more on top.

I’d be shocked.

The 15 figure is the number of clean sheets for his team.

Clearly just wanting to stay up this season. Cracking signing.
Agreed. He's not a player that has ever had pace so he's not likely to see much decline.

Some questions whether his temperament is suited to a relegation battle though.

3 yellows and 0 reds last season. Now he’s on the other side of 30 he might have cooled down a bit.

Wincing a bit at Sunderland’s midfield of Xhaka, Diarra and Le Fee coming up against Hannibal and Cullen in 4 weeks. But then trying to tell myself we’ll make a signing or two, and won’t just keep seeing our best players sold in the news.

He certainly was but I think he calmed down when under Alonso.

Don't worry about our signings we have a very good side and can't be concerned about Sunderland who will still finish below us.

Hopefully, the board doesn't think the same, or we'll be relegated before we start... A weaker central midfield than last season, and the same strike-force will not keep us up... Mr Pace has two and a bit weeks to pull his finger out.

Give or take the odd 18 million nicker.
2 years younger, probably a bit fitter as a result and will offer more for them this season than the departed Bellingham.

They’ve probably overpaid, but he’s exactly the type of midfielder I’d have wanted us to be in for.

Tomas Soucek, who we have been linked with, would be a similar signing for us if we could pull it off.

Bizarre. If I am honest, I'd probably take Vitinho back for a cheap price - good squad player who does a job all over the place and certainly a far more worthy/useful/reliable squad option than the likes of Benson and Tresor. It would be odd though because I was under the impression he wanted out due to fancying a return to Brazil? Doesn't change a single thing about what we actually need though, in the slightest. I can only make the assumption we have a lot of money to spend if we are frittering smaller amounts away on the likes of Vitinho.

Given the number of rumours that are later reported as absolute ********, it amazes be the emotional reactions people have to them - “bizarre”, “baffling” etc.

It’s particular odd when the rumour comes from a source abroad that most of us have nothing to base an assessment of reliability on.

Just seen Ramsdale is off to Newcastle on loan with a view to permanent. Presumably that's as 2nd choice so surely there's a payout in there.

You'd think he'd want to be playing every week before the world cup. Still can't believe we aren't even being linked.

Sky saying we are keen on Pope & Dubravka, with the Ramsdale move potentially being a trigger.

Surely Pope demands higher wages than Ramsdale. I'm a bit baffled by what style we are going with of Pope comes in. It s seems completely at odds to what we've been trying to build for the last 4 years.

Dubravka is rubbish so hopefully not him either.

Sunderland giving it a good go with signings over £107m
ex Xhaka

Habib Diarra £30m from Strasbourg,
Simon Adingra (£21m),
Chemsdine Talbi (£19.5m),
Enzo Le Fée (£19.3m)
Noah Sadiki (£17.5m).

That's just over £17m for a proven Premier League midfielder? On a three year deal? We paid more than that for Ramsay and Tresor didn't we? Appreciate he's 32 but still seems a no brainer to me.

I am sure a goalkeeper is imminent. Look at how our business has gone this window, it's been silent and then suddenly it's been "Medical happening" out of nowhere on at least three occasions (Walker, Tuanzebe and Bruun-Larsen). Very confident 2-3 in by the weekend.

Weirdly conflicted on signing Pope.

Had so much time for the guy, and he’s exactly the kind of character I like to have playing for my team. He’s also been a great shot stopper and performed at a high level for years.

He really doesn’t seem to fit the ‘model’ we’ve been going for. And wages are high. He’s not one to develop and see a return on.

Re. Sunderland. I know they’ve spent money, but the level of upgrade they needed way way outstripped us. They were miles behind last season. If you look at the turnover and money spent at Ipswich last year… I feel like this looks very similar.

Leverkusen were a comfortable 2nd place though. Not the same as being in a relegation battle, much harder to keep your cool under that kind of pressure.

Not really. It's more the point that I can't imagine they'd sign anyone as good as Walker, for example.

They weren’t a million miles behind. They edged the game at the Turf and should have won. Their midfield outplayed us. The last 6 games they threw in, with half the squad rested, the 24 point gap is a bit of an illusion. Ipswich signed a load of Championship players, Sunderland are signing physical, athletic types from top leagues & clubs, with a focus on their midfield, as well as doing it really early (time to gel). I’d add their manager plays counter attacking football, and is quite pragmatic, rather than McKenna’s ‘footballing’ style - so I’m struggling with that comparison really?

Yeh only finished 24 points behind us.
Acknowledged in my post. It’s irrelevant. Not only for the reasons I mention, but just to add, Luton finished a similar points tally behind us, and finished above us in the Prem… despite spending £90m less.
