Pope now, would make him the clear senior GK, with the German lad in Pope's old shoes as the young challenger. I dare say it would be a healthier GK dynamic than we have had pretty much since the European adventure left us with several keepers at a similar level

Hladky, if he is happy to do so, is a perfectly serviceable 3rd choice PL keeper.

No thanks. Couldn’t wait to get out. And not good enough.
I felt that he left in the correct and professional manner, played his part and gave 100% up until his transfer with no refusing to play or hissy fits. He also posted a really complimentary post about his time at the club, thanking them and the fans on his social media account.

So, let's say you put a shift in for your job, personally did ok, but the overall business unit performance meant the firm was in trouble, with 50% salary cuts across the board.

Surely you'd be open to a move to a rival firm wouldn't you? I bloody would.

I'll bow to your very good memory but apart from the 2 penalty saves near the end there is nothing I can recall about that game and most definetly not Sunderland's superiority. They limped their way to the play-offs, were less than spectacular in the semi and didn't ser the world alight in a final dominated by their opposition for 75 minutes. Yes, I know they won but your reporting on them makes them sound like a team that terrorised the Championship and we all know they didn't.
What happens in the remainder of the 'window' remains to be seen but please cease from describing them like potential title outsiders.

Ramsdale linked to Newcastle, raising the suspicion that Pope or Dubravka may be available, basically.

I don't think Pope will want to leave Newcastle before tasting Champions League football. I'd still pick him before Ramsdale, who to my mind has suffered a loss of confidence.

Sunderland and Leeds look more Premier League ready than we do, in my opinion, for the moment. They’ve clearly got way ahead of us in terms of midfield strength and it’s easier to see where their goals are coming from. Our huge advantage of that record-breaking defence has been set back by the loss of our goalkeeper and our centre half, but I’d still back Parker’s coaching to give us the edge there along with our new signings.

I’m now perfectly prepared for the usual patronising remarks and name-calling in response to the above, but I don’t feel I’ve said anything unreasonable there. And of course, I hope we do some good business very soon.

Two seasons ago it was Luton but they put up a much better fight than we managed.

I'd be disappointed if we end up with Pope. Really doesn't fit out style at all, and if we try to play the same way with him in the nets it's going to be a recipe for disaster.

Agree with the tone of your post, but the final sentence is not backed up by stats.
They finished just 2 points ahead of us, and were it not for a truly appalling VAR decision that gifted Luton a late equaliser at Turf Moor we would have finished above them, so whilst I agree that Luton gave it a good go, they were about on a par with us.

They weren’t a million miles behind. They edged the game at the Turf and should have won. Their midfield outplayed us. The last 6 games they threw in, with half the squad rested, the 24 point gap is a bit of an illusion. Ipswich signed a load of Championship players, Sunderland are signing physical, athletic types from top leagues & clubs, with a focus on their midfield, as well as doing it really early (time to gel). I’d add their manager plays counter attacking football, and is quite pragmatic, rather than McKenna’s ‘footballing’ style - so I’m struggling with that comparison really?
Do understand the confusion. I was talking about the similar amount spent and the need for very large turnover of players, not so much the style of the incoming. I could be wrong but I think they’ll struggle in a very similar vain to Ipswich. I believe we are building from a much stronger base. We’ll see but I’m fairly confident we’ll finish ahead of Sunderland, albeit not that confident we’ll manage to survive. The jump is massive, and we clearly still have a fair bit of work to do.

Personally don’t think that Sunderland team that won the playoffs was anywhere near the quality we showed consistently, particularly through the second half of the season. Guessing the description of the 24 point gap as being an ‘illusion’ is an interesting way to dimiss it. That Sunderland team literally scraped up, similar to ourselves in 2009. Except the quality difference between the prem and champions league now is exponentially greater than it was in 2009.

Saying all that, I felt we did some positive early business, but the concern is just how we are going to bring in the players needed in the critical positions.

Would be a disaster for our style of play. He is like Bambi on ice with his feet and distribution, a clear step down in quality from Muric for a team that likes to hold possession at the back.

If we want to rip up what we have built for the past 2 years and just go down the long ball only route, then yes he is a good shot stopper and would be perfect.

The thing with Sunderland is they may be doing the classic of signing all these players, but not giving the ones who got them there the chance, it brings unrest in the group

Sunderland can spend all they want but what they have in defence compared with ours is really where the main difference lies. Our defence is so much better than theirs it’s actually laughable. Their manager and most of their team has no experience of premier league football. I really don’t think Sunderland are who we need to worry about. We need to do well in the mini league with Leeds, Wolves, Brentford and West Ham.

The more I think about the Vitinho stuff, the more crazy it seems.

Basically botafogo get a player for 12 months for free plus 4m.

If they haven’t paid the 8m then they have no substance to value him at 18m, he should return for free if they haven’t paid a penny.

I disagree, I think Vitinho is 100% a Parker player, one of the few players who you can tell grafts his arse off every game. In the first few games last season Vitinho had a key role on that right side in front of Roberts, it helped give the number 10/ second striker a free role

I don't think big money signings are the key to surviving in the PL. However, having a No 9 that can put the ball in the back of the net is one of the required pieces for survival, and BFC don't even have a sniff of that player at the moment.
I agree, Leeds and Sunderland have bought big names as did Ipswich and look what happened there.
I think this is more about the tactical nous of the manager and the team sticking to a sensible plan.
Pace and SP have had experience of promotion and relegation and should have a plan, but I doubt it
I like most fans would see Burnley finishing 17th next season in the PL as an over achievement, Leeds fans will expect a Champions League place. Most likely, Leeds will survive, and we will go down with Sunderland and Bournemouth
If I had a concern, it is this our business is done for this transfer window. We need a striker and a creative midfield player.
At present, I believe SP thinks he can go into next season with Foster as our striker and Hannibal as our creative midfield player.
I think we will get 5 points from our first 3 matches and that will be it until the end of November when pace will sack SP.

Any actual transfer rumours?
From SSN

A goalkeeper merry-go-round?
Sky Sports News' James Savundra:

"We're in a situation where there's potentially a goalkeeper merry-go-round.

"Cleary, Burnley are now looking for a new goalkeeper, with James Trafford set to depart for Man City.

"One player they had tentative interest in was a player who looks like being Man City's third-choice goalkeeper, Stefan Ortega.

"They've also looked into potential deals around two Newcastle goalkeepers, Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka.

"So we could be in a situation where Trafford departs for Man City, leaving a vacancy at Burnley, Aaron Ramsdale joins Newcastle and a Newcastle keeper departs to fill the void at Burnley."

There is a rumour
And that doesn't include the Johnstone story
Exciting times

I really hope we don’t try to play the same way because it will be a disaster no matter who is in goal. Hopefully Parker will realise that and prioritise a goalkeeper like Pope, who’s primary strength is keeping the ball out of the net.

I really hope we don’t try to play the same way because it will be a disaster no matter who is in goal. Hopefully Parker will realise that and prioritise a goalkeeper like Pope, who’s primary strength is keeping the ball out of the net.
Can't disagree with your thoughts on playing out from the back against top, pressing players especially given our lack of strength in midfield

But the alternative would necessitate a striker who is capable of holding up play with the ball - something we do not have

Nothing like being dramatic a couple of weeks before a ball is kicked is there

Pope was consistently number 1 at claiming aerial balls from corners/crosses when he was with us. Not sure if any truth in it, but would say a 'safe pair of hands' is far more important for a team like ours, than one that can play out from the back.

I'll start

Absolute nonsense.

Honestly with the way you were when Parker was announced as manager and what you were like during the season, creating endless threads with Parker out stuff and clogging up threads, you really have no room to talk.

It’s not as clear cut as that. Scott Parker said, after the games on Saturday, that he expects Trafford to go and that he will have a word with the owners as to whether we have any funds to buy a replacement.
Well you’d absolutely expect there to be funds for a replacement, otherwise no point in selling him!

No way we go into the season with our current crop of keepers vying for the number 1 shirt.

1.A safe pair of hands 2. A ruddy great big strong relentless bugger in central midfield 3. Somebody who scores goals

I could be totally wrong and I hope I am but I don’t think there is money available, maybe enough for loan fees but that’s it. I think we get 2 loans from England and 1 loan from abroad for a GK, CM and Striker then that’ll be us done.
