It means if Barnes was never brought on, I believe our chances of a positive result increase. Barnes being at the club will only make Sean scratch that itch and give him minutes.

He's clearly making the point that, in his opinion, it's time Barnes and Cork were replaced in the squad, and it is his opinion that with two better players replacing the aforementioned pair we could have won the game.

McNeil had a very good first half, though it seems many thought JBG was the star turn.
I think our expectation of DM is ridiculous, it would be interesting to see heat maps of our midfield and forwards.

At the top right are two drop down menu bars highlighting the league and the season. If you change the season the statistics in the right section will change to correspond to that season. Directly below the menu bars is a heat map display for the season in full.

If you scroll down to the matches section, which is on the left, you will see all the matches the team was involved in and an arbitrary rating for the player in each of those matches, providing that they were featured.

If you click on the coloured number box ( like the green 8.1 for Dwight, which is next to the Wolves v Burnley entry ) it will initiate a pop up box showing the stats and heatmap for that particular match.

The problem with loan signings is that there aren’t many players available to loan from the Premier League who would improve us. We’re at a level where better sides would prefer to sell their surplus players, players available on loan are more often young and unproven.

It’s not often I agree with you but on this occasion I will, odd 1s are available such as lingard last season & to a lesser extent Gallagher the desire to move here & wages will always be hurdles, taking that into consideration & everything into account gambling on a “young & unproven” loan wouldn’t be a bad idea as opposed to doing nothing & hoping what we’ve got is enough.

Thanks Tony. A loan with an option to buy would surely be more appealing to dyche than the standard loan deal. Probably something we are already looking at as an option I'd guess.

Barnes has been dialling in performances for about two years (and I appreciate the injuries won't have helped)

I like him, think he's been great, but I wouldn't be disappointed if he wasn't here on Sept 1st*

Dialing in makes it seem like he’s no longer committed. I think the least likely Burnley player to dial it in is Ashley Barnes. I don’t think it’s that, I love him to death but I just think he’s completely been bypassed as a Premier League player these days

Absolutely! OK he's no spring chicken but he's one of the older players I would like to see retained with younger players built around him.

As players get older they have to adapt their game accordingly and Basher is a prime example of that.

If there's one forward who opposing defenders dread marking when they play Burnley it's Barnesy.

I agree regarding Barnes - he’s been fantastic for us over the years , however I think his days in this division may be over, I’d love him to prove us wrong mind you.

I’m not sure we are looking at any strikers to anyway so the likelihood of him leaving is slim to none.

10 days to go let’s see who comes in. I’m hoping for : -

2 x wingers
1 x central midfielder .

Then I think the aim of the club should be to bring a new striker through the door in the next window or two with a right full back and another centre midfielder and centre half .

Your point about our reliance on Sheff Utd going off the rails is just plain wrong though. I can’t understand why people keep making up rubbish like this. We avoided relegation by 12 points, and finished on 39 points which is almost always enough to avoid relegation.

Burnley fans seem to live in hope that ageing players can suddenly recapture previous performances of years ago. Just like they think the club is protected from relegation because in the past they have put runs together without strengthening the first 11

It's merely opinions. Barnes isn't up to it week in week out but coming off the bench he would be useful. Regardless of effort he isn't the player he once was. He shouldn't be coming on before Vydra either.

Nobody is clinging onto anything, and I think most sensible people would agree that Barnes is probably our fourth best striker as things stand. What I find fickle and disloyal is the abuse that he gets for having the audacity to still be a Burnley player. That’s not a fair way to treat someone who has played a pivotal role in one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.

Sorry -you totally miss my point. I did not suggest we needed those players though Diallo would have been nice. The point I was making was that the top clubs were blessed in an abundance of young prospects they were happy to loan, and here we are totally blanking out the loan market with an appalling record in the transfer market

So on one hand you are moaning about players not coming in, and on the other hand, you are advocating that we keep a player who has done nothing for two years just because he was good once till the end of his career.

Considering the length of time he was injured last year it may take a bit longer to get back to his best especially as he s not playing regularly
Our main problem is jack cork if anyone’s not premiership standard any more it’s jack and he hasn’t been for two years

The issue won’t be us not enquiring about loans, it will be the clubs/players don’t want to come to us.

We don’t exactly have the best recent history of using them.

I think the biggest irritation for me as a Burnley fan is how well we played and in particular Chris Wood when we had someone alongside him who had pace. It gave wood more space to operate in and we look exceptionally dangerous in games. We have now reverted back to two big lads upfront and we look static again in the final third

The linked article just says Leeds offered 12 months ago and that was considered too low by Lyon. It's a non story. The OL site doesn't even mention Burnley.

I think you are being a bit dramatic to suggest that people have turned on Barnes. The suggestion is that he isn’t good enough for the premier league any more, which is a very valid and fair point.

You might disagree that’s fine but dial back the rhetoric a wee bit as that how people bicker on here.

From my own point of view I like Barnes but do believe that post injury his best days are behind him.

For several days now Burnley have been trying to recruit Lyon's versatile player but even if Jean-Michel Aulas is ready to say yes to the English, who offered around 17m euros, Maxwell Cornet himself refuses to sign for the Premier League club.
