A fit Armando Broja is better than anyone in the bottom half of the PL had a to offer.
Re: Summer transfer window
Keep reading… this player is a gamble…. It might not work…. Used to be good but…..
End of the day every signing we make in the premier league is a gamble as we are not able to buy those that aren’t. Sit back amd don’t worry.. the worst that happens is we get relegated

The Dubravka move is progressing nicely according to Sky Sports.
Good signing this IMO.

When a replacement for Traff was spoken about several weeks ago I mentioned Dubravka isn’t a bad option, he has good experience and we’ll need that.burnleymik wrote: ↑Mon Aug 04, 2025 11:08 amThe Dubravka move is progressing nicely according to Sky Sports.

A sensible, low risk signing I think. A short term fix whilst one of our younger keepers hopefully develops into our future number 1.

I'm a little concerned about his age, but he should be a good, solid experienced option.
Johansson is expected to leave Stoke this summer - he's somebody I like, but there's the obvious issue of no PL experience.

We're signing Ugochukwu from Chelsea as per Ornstein. Thought we could be after him for a while now.

Very happy with that signing. Exact profile we need. Got a year exp in the Prem with Saints.

What position does Ugochukwu play?

Re: Summer transfer window
The key to this deal is ugochukwus age. As it’s a permanent deal he doesn’t need to be registered in the 21 man squad, gives us flexibility for another midfielder or another position

Chelsea are exceptional at player trading so I’ll be amazed if we’ve got him on the cheap. There might be some heavy incentives, sell ons, survival etc.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Mon Aug 04, 2025 12:28 pmReports earlier in the window of him being valued at 23m

Romano confirms it too.
Re: Summer transfer window
So to sum up.
Strong possibility we're signing Broja, Ugochukwu and either Dubravka or Johnstone.
Definitely fits with what we need so fingers crossed.

I’d say we are a centre back away now from a very strong first XI on paper.

Re: Summer transfer window
On the Broja thing. I don’t know where I have been looking where everyone else hasn’t but from what I have read it left me thinking why are we even looking at this guy? I don’t know if others have different sources but all I see is an injury prone striker who has a habit of not scoring goals. Forgive me if I’m wrong but he looks, from what I’ve read, simply awful. Please feel free to correct me with regard to his stats and I’ll have a re-think rethink.

Maybe some of us have watched him play instead of trying to form a opinion based purely on stats?houseboy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 04, 2025 12:46 pmOn the Broja thing. Physically, looks exactly the type of striker that Parker loves. Let's see how he gets on in our system.

Re: Summer transfer window
Hmm,I think we are quite strong at CB.The gaffer is having a good look at Ekdal and Worrall has PL experience with Forest. I would hope we will look at another midfielder or possibly an additional striker, then I feel we are done if today's proposed moves happen.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Mon Aug 04, 2025 12:42 pmI’d say we are a centre back away now from a very strong first XI on paper.
Re: Summer transfer window
IMO that would leave us needing a left sided centre back, an attacking a là Josh Brownhill centre midfielder and ideally another striker.
And of course selling or loaning out about 8+ players

Re: Summer transfer window
I agree and I’m not a fan of stats, but the one stat you have to look at is a strikers goal stats and he hardly seems prolific. Like I said I could be wrong but it doesn’t look good.
As for watching him no I haven’t, but then I’m not an armchair fan who sits watching the PL all weekend.

Re: Summer transfer window
Estevé and Humphreys surely enough for LCB?
As for another striker, if we do sign Broja I can't see us signing another, though I'd also like to take a punt on Ivanovic (Milwall) or Salech (Cardiff), purely due to the single-striker setups that SP uses.

Re: Summer transfer window
Based on the 4-3-3 we played against Stoke, Hannibal isn’t a number 10, especially in the prem. we have the 6/8 sorted now but I think we are crying out for a creative 10

I think Humphreys is still injured and not sure how long he will be out for

Ben Mee would be an excellent option as cover in my view but I expect he wants to play.

Re: Summer transfer window
We surely have to be looking at another striker as well given Broja's injury record, even on loan. I just do not give us much of a chance with either Foster or Flemming up front in the Premier League.
And we absolutely need another midfielder as well as Les (great to have a Les back in our team btw).
Realistically it needs to be someone creative (don't think Ramsey is the answer in the Premier League, but hope I'm wrong). I'd throw a lot of money at Hamer, personally.

Re: Summer transfer window
We played a 4-4-2 / 4-2-4 against Stoke. Parker doesn’t play with a traditional number 10 and definitely not a creative type. He will prioritise physicality and work rate, which Hannibal offers in that area. Anyway, I think we’ll play a back 5 quite often.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Mon Aug 04, 2025 1:02 pmBased on the 4-3-3 we played against Stoke, Hannibal isn’t a number 10, especially in the prem. we have the 6/8 sorted now but I think we are crying out for a creative 10

Also Flemming who may actually get to play this role thanks to the Broja signing.

Re: Summer transfer window
For those of you confused by the stats above, they are for a striker who has had a very similar journey to that of Broja.
He is Dominic Solanke, a player who signed for Spurs last summer for about £65 million Inc add ons.

Broja, Dubravka, Ugochukwu would be some week for us. Chelsea made £23mil for Ugochukwu just two years ago.

Re: Summer transfer window
Playing a FLAT back 5 is putting up the white flag. I can see us playing 3 at the back with 2 FBs but pivoting across to a back 4 depending which side we are attacking down. That is why Walker at RCB is perfect as he can handle both roles if we pivot right I’d be less sure of Steve pivoting left but Humphreys can do the job with Steve staying central whichever way they go.

Re: Summer transfer window
If we do sign Broja I would play both him and Flemming playing off him. I may be old school but I always enjoy watching twin strikers.... Pointer/Robson, Lochhead /Irvine, Conroy /Eli, Fletcher/Casper, Vokes/Ings didn't do too bad for us.
