With supposed links to Clarke, Hamer, Flemming, Tresor, Vrankx, Lakonga, Maatsen, Tella, the lad from Espanyol and so forth where is all this money coming from ? We might also need another LB in addition to Maatsen. Perhaps we might see a number of outgoings soon, Wout, Taylor, Bastien, Chulinov, McNally, Cork ? its gonna be an exciting few weeks ahead.

I think there might be more outgoings than we all originally thought.
The more players we are linked to im starting to think the likes of Brownhill, Gudmundsson and Cork could all potentially be on the way out.

Strange that it’s a loan move when he is out of contract in the summer
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Thought we might at least get a small fee for him

So discussion around 9 possible incoming players and half a dozen players out is not a transfer discussion ?
You must be incredibly bored or perhaps had a couple of glasses too many.

"Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion."
This conversation policing we're getting is incredibly tiresome.
Least you're not like the user who says if you can't say something nice, say nothing at all- unless it's about someone he doesn't like in which case crack on and how dare you say otherwise.
Brownhill's a tricky one. Brilliant last season but been hit-miss in the Prem previously, I think in a midfield 3 in a 433 he'd be solid (Still have a weird one about Bastien in this role, too) but I'm not sure he's a CDM or CAM at Prem level in 4231.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 5:58 pmI think there might be more outgoings than we all originally thought.

Cork, hero for us but his legs had gone for the first half of his last Premier League season, then the back half of last season, his technique and brain's still there but he was racking up the bookings in the Championship and PL pace is another thing again. I'd move him on. And Jay, 'one of our own' or not, he's had the same, 2 poor Prem seasons, a first half season last year where he looked like he had something left in the tank but that final injury seemed to finish him.
Gudmundsson and Taylor are the 2 old guard who I'd 100% keep. Taylor as we have nobody else in LB and as defensive, up-down fullback he's proven at this level. Gudmundsson as regardless of pace, he proved he can maintain his fitness last year, his technique is as good as any we have, and his newfound versatility could be useful. I'd rather have him as CDM than Cork in the Prem now, just for legs alone.

How many of those names will we actually sign though? 3 or 4 maximum?LaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 5:23 pmWith supposed links to Clarke, Hamer, Flemming, Tresor, Vrankx, Lakonga, Maatsen, Tella, the lad from Espanyol and so forth where is all this money coming from ? Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
It's 'Summer transfer window 2023' before the subheading. Money in money out and transfer fees are an aspect of every transfer window, bit silly to forbid that.
I've got to ask why you're so hellbent on shutting it down any aspect of the window you're not interested in discussing though- nobody makes you read it, just scroll past and ignore. You realise that by going 'stop talking about this' you're actually prolonging the very subject you don't want discussed and drawing more attention to it? Money was barely a footnote in the post you quoted, it was much more about players we might move on.
It's just odd and unhelpful.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I agree! Please post your complaints on a different thread as this one is for transfer rumours, links and discussion only.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Perhaps because these discussions lead to 3+ pages of non-transfer discussion every time. Then when I check back in every 8 hours, I see 3+ pages of new posts and get excited to then wade through 3 pages of arguments.spt_claret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 8:18 pmIt's 'Summer transfer window 2023' before the subheading. Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
I think the main purpose of this thread is to discuss rumours, links & discussion, however unlikely or likely any potential targets might be, obviously a lot of that will be guff, newspaper sport content filling but when that happens, opinions go back & forth determining whether it's likely or unlikely, I'm not sure if any sort of rigidity is imposed or needs to be imposed because even an inkling could transpire to be a signing.

Here’s an idea that hasn’t been discussed, maybe Clarke is seen as our left back, played Left wing back for Sunderland a few times last season.LaLigaClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 5:23 pmWith supposed links to Clarke, Hamer, Flemming, Tresor, Vrankx, Lakonga, Maatsen, Tella, the lad from Espanyol and so forth where is all this money coming from ? Chelsea, City and PSG after Olise from Palace. Hopefully he goes, Palace would be seriously weaker without him after already losing Zaha

A bit of a guess that if we are to bring in 2 CMs etc…. I am not sure the club will want to keep another player that walks on a free in 12 months.
I think he either signs a new deal or we will try move him on.
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
It is becoming a familiar trait of players now to run their contracts down - they can then look at other offers that would bring considerably more money into their own pockets as they negotiate signing on feesNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 6:07 amIt’s more I’m trying to think of players that we can recoup some money on.

Looking at our player contracts it is suggested that there is an option to extend Brownhill's contract after this year

Given the amount of money we are spending I do think there’s a couple of players we won’t expect to leave that might. A month a go I didn’t think there would be any chance Gudmundsson leaves but now I am thinking he could be one the club are thinking of recouping some cash on.

Central midfield is our weak spot at the moment and we need at least 2 players who can play there. Not sure how offloading players who actually play there helps us.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 24, 2023 5:58 pmI think there might be more outgoings than we all originally thought.

I think the presumption is the outgoings will allow for the incomings on a pretty much like for like basis in a positional sense but slight upgrades.

Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
The thought process is if we bring in Vrankx and Lokonga then I was thinking one of them three might be getting moved out to recoup some money.
As that would leave us with cullen, Vrankx, Lokonga, then two of the other three names mentioned
Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
So are we saying that Cullen and Brownhill don't play CM now? or are we splitting to a diamond and having DCM ACM? Considering Cullen got player of the year and played very well in my eyes and knows the system inside out hence why VK brought him here, and Brownhill being Cpt I'm not sure where the cries for new CM is coming from unless of course you feel they are not good enough and they are going to be sold? I get the need for back up which we have in Cork, and JBG but I wouldn't be thinking marquee signings?

I just can’t see that information anywhere. The club usually announces that when the sign it.

Pretty certain VK sees Cullen as a starter and is looking for an upgrades elsewhere in midfield. He’s already mentioned the need for a more physical presence and given the links it appears we are after at least one or two defensive midfielders and at least one attacking midfielder.ClaretAL wrote: ↑Tue Jul 25, 2023 7:24 amSo are we saying that Cullen and Brownhill don't play CM now? or are we splitting to a diamond and having DCM ACM? Re: Summer transfer window 2023 - rumours, links and discussion.
Probably rotation with one of the new signings. I don’t think VK sees the captaincy role in a traditional manner where the captain is certain starter every single week.
Can’t remember where but I swear I read somewhere VK saying that he doesn’t see his team with one captain but a number of leaders all over the pitch where anyone can take the captaincy at any point.
Plus wasn’t cork captain last year?
