It doesn’t work like that otherwise every team would be doing it.Clive 1960 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 11:25 amWe should have had a gk , striker, and midfielder in week's ago knowing what the situation was with Trafford and Brownhill especially and getting them bedded in ready for the first game at Spurs...
A lot of things have to align before a deal can be confirmed- that’s why there tends to be a lot of activity in the last 36 hours of a window,

Precisely - an often complex and protracted process with clubs, players and agents holding out for the best possible deal.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 11:49 amIt doesn’t work like that otherwise every team would be doing it.

Some must really struggle as to why every single club doesn't have their business done within 10 minutes of the window opening, they know what they need and who they want so just go sign them.

A quick scan of Tony's Premier League signings sticky shows we have signed more players than any other club in the League so far this summer, with another 3 apparently imminent...

Re: Summer transfer window
The graphic posted the other day shows that we have brought in more new players than most clubs in the league so far.
But as always there will still be a lot of business that gets done in August and that includes us too.
Using terms like “forward planning” is just ridiculous when it’s abundantly clear how hard we are working to get players in and have been for several weeks or months now. We have seen it on the documentaries how busy we are and how complicated some of these deals are to get over the line.
How long does it take any company to secure a new purchase or sale worth between tens of millions ? It can take months just to do one individual deal with many things that can elongate completing it or in many cases individuals or businesses changing their mind.
A football club like ours has to do a dozen or so of these deals in the space of 2 or 3 months !!
We should be pleased with the amount of business we have done so far and we know there is more to come.
All that said I would be more than happy with a change in the deadline day which brought it forward to before the season starts which I know may cause issues with different start dates in other countries but I still believe it would be better than the chaos that happens in that last week at a point when you are preparing for and playing games with players who could be leaving

Just my opinion, but I dont think Hamer is Premier League quality. Outstanding in the Championship certainly but we have enough who fall into that bracket in our squad already.

Unlike some of our other imminent signings Hamer doesn’t miss many games, he also looks like a man who doesn’t miss many meals either
Re: Summer transfer window
Brownhill could be trusted to knuckle down in the Champ and lead the squad. Hamer definitely can't. We'd probably be stuck with a sulker on high wages if we went down. No thanksJakubs Tash wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 12:27 pmCould be a good Brownhill replacement then.

Sorry Clive, I think we’ve got our wires crossed. Was fully aware that Trafford would leave but we still needed to sell him to be able to buy due to my very limited understanding of PSR. I might be wrong but we only now seem to be pushing deals again.Clive 1960 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 12:08 pmCome on we all knew Trafford was leaving or he would have stayed and signed a improved contract like Esteve...

Sounds like he gave it a year to get back up. I doubt he'd do it again unless he had no choice.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 12:57 pmDid Hamer sulk his way through last season with Sheffield United?
Re: Summer transfer window
We've had players come to us before with poor attitutdes/reputations and done us proud, I always find judging a player on their tempraments a little odd. We'd never have signed players like Barton or Hannibal if their "reputations" were taken into account. Players can change and can also be different in different environments.

Re: Summer transfer window
Hamer came across as a pretty good leader/talisman for Sheff Utd last season and had a great season. His goal return wasn’t quite Brownhill numbers but there’s no doubting his ability.
And the idea he is overweight is just laughable.
Re: Summer transfer window
This IS not a rumour but there's a club who could get a really good CB loanee in Luka Vušković from Spurs. Apparently, they're looking to loan him out again. Hamburg have been mentioned but I wouldn't rule out a PL loan.
Re: Summer transfer window
I would love to have Hamer here..

I’ve not looked it up, but seem to remember him being subbed off, looking exhausted, quite a few times last season.johnnyjones wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 12:43 pmUnlike some of our other imminent signings Hamer doesn’t miss many games, he also looks like a man who doesn’t miss many meals either

Re: Summer transfer window
Every time I watched Hamer he never stopped running. However I've thought since the end of last season if he were to move it would be to Leeds. Just a hunch. A great engine on him though which is probably why he comes off early, due to knackering himself out.

Re: Summer transfer window
Long shot I feel but Hamer would be sensational, particularly with Ugokukwa alongside him. I thought Hamer/Sousa was a standout midfield two for Sheff Utd last season. Hamer is able to unlock situations and in tight games he could prove a winner . For me that would be the stellar signing of this window. I see that Sheff Utd have just sold their East European defender with the impossible name to spell, and look like cashing in where possible

I like Hamer a lot. Very attack minded, very positive, sees a pass, tries to break the lines. When he sees an opportunity, he goes for it. Increases our options around set pieces. Edwards, Hamer and Flemming are all very capable with free kicks.

Good player, I read that Ajax are in for him.
I'm wondering if Sheff U have some financial restrictions for this coming season. They don't seem to be as adventurous in the market this time around.

Re: Summer transfer window
You’ve got to love this board
Hamer is overweight and sulks a lot
He was the best player in the championship last year and the main reason Sheff United got as many points as they did.
De Souza was decent but when we played them at the end of the season he couldn’t get near Hannibal. And despite a few burnley fans before the game saying how unfit and overweight Hamer was he showed why he was the best player on the pitch (bar Esteve)
Would be an excellent signing - but think there’s going to be a few teams after him including Leeds.
And still think we need another striker in addition to Broja as even if we got a player like Hamer we need someone who is good enough to make the runs and be on his wavelength….and then good enough to covert enough of the chances he is creating
