What do you mean so many wingers, in January when zaroury goes to AFCON if benson gets injured as things stand we only have Redmond, churlinov and JBG (who doesn’t really play wide anymore)
We'll have:
Zaroury
Churlinov
Redmond
JBG (position debates notwithstanding)
Benson
Larson
Kolasheo
Vitinho (backup)

Add in Obafemi played there last year and we're allegedly still looking at Tella and Townsend is impressing that could give us as many as 11 players who can play wide. Not to mention even Bastien deputised left wing last year.
Larsen has apparently played centrally according to Whoscored, JBG and Vitinho will likely play other roles, I think Tella will end up more central, but even in the CAM role we have:
Amdouni
Brownhill
JBG
Foster
Apparently Larson

I think it's almost nailed on that at least Churlinov goes (shame as he's barely had a chance), probably Bastien, but I can see another going at this point with how overstocked we could end up,even with Obafemis injury, Foster and Zaroury at AFCON, and JBG/Vitinho not being primarily wingers.

We're going to have more than 25 over 21s before we sign for midfield/left back. Need to make room.

In response to BigChaCha, we previously had a buy young and sell high policy but we completely moved away from it in recent years until the new regime took control.

In the past we had Ings to step up one Austin sold,Pope who could step up once Heaton sold, Tarks to step up when Keane was sold etc.

Following a change in approach we didn’t have the next can off the rank’ and as an example ended up in a position where we had nobody to replace Tarks and so couldn’t sell him and ended up with nothing.

We are now clearly aiming for an approach where we have the next player available and can sell when we think a player has hit the maximum level of return so if for example someone offers an eye watering figure for someone at 1 minute to 11 on 31st August we can accept it and know we have backup.

I wouldn't start worrying about that until we actually overspend.

Like walking around with an umbrella over your head just waiting for it to rain.
It'll be al reet.
The EPL riches will keep us going for some time..
Speculate to accumulate...with the talent and energy in this squad, plus VK, most on a four/five year deal, the Premiership is secure, aim must be at least Euro conference in 3/4 years..
Chill and enjoy the ride

The Larsen signing could well be a plan to replace JBG, with the loan being in essence a trial period. Larsen is predominantly a wide player but is versatile a bit like Redmond who I also see as being able to operate in that JBG/Jay role that we witnessed last night.

Zaroury at AFCON and Benson picking up knocks (already injured currently), add to that Townsend can be injury prone and we’ve then still got cover.

Plus I think we may be approaching this window with an attitude of , “if we can improve we will do it” then if that means moving some on that we didn’t necessarily plan on doing this summer, then so be it.

Possible outgoing for me would be:
McNally
Bastien
Churlinov
Weghorst
Rodriguez
JBG

The bottom three are maybes especially given the injury record of the Jay and JBG. Both of whom I think played well yesterday.

Could as easily been impressed with his teammates efforts last night.
In fact it is more likely than him leaking a potential move.

Absolutely no idea if benson is off or not but if he was I would not be surprised. I can imagine the model involves selling at least one of the Crown Jewels once a season and would make sense in terms of the amount of spend so far plus ongoing links that we are expecting to recoup something somewhere. Me as a fan will be pretty gutted when the time comes (now or later) but as a realist at some point we’re going to have to cash in on some of these favourites whilst their stock is high. They might increase their value with a good season in the premier league but at the same time they might get injured or lose form. Hard decisions.

When players post this cryptic messages, does anyone think to ask what they're on about or just post it on here?

Churlinov won’t be fit enough to be sold before the Window shuts is he not recovering from sepsis or similar? Imagine if well enough a loan out in Jan with a view to a permanent deal next summer would be our best option.

Can we cut this narrative?... Every team has that policy apart from the likes of Chelsea and Man City, which is to buy low, sell high lol... People are acting like we just invented it...

In fact, there is far more proof of that working under SD than the current regime. We bought and developed a lot of players under SD that cost peanuts and were sold for multiple millions... We have always done that and that model is what at least 90% of teams are trying to fufil!
But we did invent it back in the day.

Henri Lansbury has been released by Luton. I can't really say I was aware that he was playing for them.
He's retiring so he can focus on football pitch maintenance.

There go our dreams of seeing him in a Burnley shirt

Ismaila Sarr (proven Prem and international & better player than Tella) just went to Marseille for €13m so around £11m. I think somewhere around £10m is a fair offer.

Whats is "todays market" though?

He had essentially done very little till we and him turned him into the perfect fit - he still got very limited premier league experience

Put it one way, I think Saints are open to selling him and won't want to scare us off too much

He’s also saying we will go back in with another offer this week.

I must say I find it bizarre and can only assume we aren’t signing Townsend.

Absolute guesswork here but I am going to guess we sign Tella on deadline day.

£9m would be a fair and reasonable first offer especially when it seems we've had and possibly still have several irons in the fire.

I reckon VK sees Tella as a forward long term. Fully appreciate he operated from the right predominantly, but just how I see it with the Larsen and Townsend signings seemingly obvious. I also think he is wanting pace and penetration/game changing ability all over his 9 man bench. The ability to throw Tella and/or Benson on with 30 to go etc.

Bloody hell. Imagine being in a position to throw Tella and Benson on for fun in the last 30. Any team and fans in the bottom third will seriously pap it.

How many wide forwards are we up to? Genuine question as I’ve lost count. I make it Benson, Zaroury, Redmond, JBG, Koleosho (I could well have missed one). I think VK will use 4 wide forwards almost every game, so we need at least 5 as it’s a position where we are likely to miss players throughout the season due to injuries, and 6 is probably optimum. I’m not sure JBG is quite up to the PL if I’m brutally honest and VK seemed to prefer him in a more central role, and Koleosho is likely to play a small part if any.

Then when you consider that some of these players are versatile and can cover more than one position, such as Tella playing off the number 10, it wouldn’t surprise me if we’re still looking to sign both. After all Townsend is a free transfer and his experience will be very useful around the group. Having said that, it’s a world apart from what we’re used to so I can see how it’s difficult to see how all these players will fit in.
