Re: Summer transfer window
Go on I'll bite being realistically grounded flip side that could work against us with age decline & inexperience but you could equally be right & it could work in our favour. I think the season needs to start before we can claim our signings are going to be a success.ollieclarets8 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 4:15 pmMore optimistic and referring to who we've targeted - mix of ages, experience etc.

Re: Summer transfer window
Presuming the striker signs, I'd say we are stronger now , right across the park, than the side that started against City 2 years ago...I'm really not sure what it is that the doubters still want.

Re: Summer transfer window
I agree. There's been some eye opening signings, some with promise, some with vital experience. Hopefully we'll get Broja over the line soon and I'll be more than satisfied.
It's been a really good transfer window, without the apparent scattergun approach we seemed to have under Kompany.

The one year contract works for us.
If he is exceptional we can offer to extend and I rate him.
If Weiss progresses he is in situ to take the role.
If he doesn’t we look elsewhere.

Re: Summer transfer window
If we get Broja then I think all the players most asked for have been signed. And therefore it has been a decent summer in terms of purchases. The squad is certainly better than last time's but whether this squad is 11 or so points better remains to be seen.
Be nice to see a few more off the payroll to keep the wage bill under a £100 million.

Re: Summer transfer window
Agent is probably delaying the deal hoping another club comes in and offers more.

Amazed at how little patience there is... The club are never going to announce players close together - for all we know they're waiting for enough time to pass from the Dubravka announcement to get the Broja one out. My guess is it might be another late night for Tony...

Re: Summer transfer window
I know it's absolutely insane but if you say anything different you are a negative person. I've no idea if the signings are going to be a success or not because the season hasn't started.
Re: Summer transfer window
When Broja signs we will have the most balanced squad in ages. In the past we’ve always had one position that looked light.
ALK have done well this window
Hopefully we can get a few of the unwanted players like Obafemi, Hans, Darko etc off the wage bill

Re: Summer transfer window
Nowt to do with impatience or the length of time it's taking to announce. It's just wondering what the reason(s) would be behind the agent delaying the process as reported by sky.agreenwood wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 5:32 pmAmazing how quickly a catastrophe develops in the absence of patience.

Re: Summer transfer window
Only delay in Broja is potentially the drop in wages should we get relegated. You would have thought though that as this has been going on since the weekend, that this issue would have been raised by now. Just requires some creative accounting

Atm I think we still need a striker (hopefully Broja) and a creative midfielder.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 5:53 pmStill think we’ll be looking to add a couple more using our loans.
And if Humphreys injury means he's out for a bit of time then maybe we get a left sided centre back in on loan.

Absolutely - there are starters that night who are now backups + gained another 2 seasons of experience.

Tbf we should have survived comfortably. I can't imagine Parker will be as stubborn as VK was for as long, or have a very public fall out with his no 2.ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 5:59 pmAnecdotally that seemed to be a consensus. Re: Summer transfer window
£0 fee + £100k/week x 3 years = £15.6 million
Purchase someone similar for £10 million & pay them £50k/week for 3 years = £17.8 million and I think you'd be lucky tget a JB equivalent for £10 million or get him to play in the EPL for only £50k/week.
Now do the numbers make more sense to you?

Re: Summer transfer window
Villa knocked back Evertons pursuit of McGinn, so they might see Josh as an alternative.
Dwight and Tarks will also be able to give an opinion on him that's probably better than the average football fan.
Wherever he goes he deserves to land on his feet, good luck to him.

The numbers and logic made sense prior to the explanation, it’s a well covered point on here, transfer window after transfer window, but thank you.AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 07, 2025 7:15 pm£0 fee + £100k/week x 3 years = £15.6 million

Whichever way it’s spun though, a player of Josh Brownhill’s level; mediocre by Premier League standards (not intended to be a criticism) should never be able to command wages of £100k per week. The £85k per week that we reputedly offered was bonkers enough.

The Broja deal has got to be a dead duck after all this time. If it isn't and he's actually announced as joining I'll be pretty surprised.
