He won PFA young player of the year twice, was in the PFA team of the year twice, scored 18 in his best Premier League season, bizarre to claim he was never consistently good.Targetman wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 1:13 pmI haven't forgotten anything!
He was never consistent enough to be the best U21 player in England never mind Europe, arguably.
Yes he had obvious skill, some lovely touches at times, but never on a consistent basis which ultimately, along with his reported attitude problems, led to him dropping down the pecking order at his club.

Came to Turf Moor 4 or 5 years ago with Spurs just before Christmas. Easy 0-3 for them and he was right at the top of his game then.

He wasn't a striker, a young midfielder. Enormous talent and was performing consistently for years.
Something suddenly happened where he wasn't that good anymore, maybe he just peaked early? not sure why people are so quick to jump to ''poor attitude''. I think it's alot deeper than that.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Surridge did very little against Blackpool today. Really hope we can find a better striker than him.

I don't think we really need another striker, unless we lose Tella.
Barnes and Rodriguez have the nous to lead the line, and our other forward options have plenty of goal threat and outstanding skill on the ball.

Disagree we need some forward planning both Barnes and Jay Rod are coming to the end of their careers and neither are going to cut it at the top level should we as it’s looking get promoted.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 9:10 pmI don't think we really need another striker, unless we lose Tella.

Yes, that is probably correct in the longer term, but not a necessity for our potential promotion.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 9:16 pmDisagree we need some forward planning both Barnes and Jay Rod are coming to the end of their careers and neither are going to cut it at the top level should we as it’s looking get promoted.
I wonder what will happen with Dervisoglu?

Agree but hopefully we are planning ahead. Dervisoglu I’d expect to go back if we bring in a couple of permanent strikers.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jan 07, 2023 9:19 pmYes, that is probably correct in the longer term, but not a necessity for our potential promotion.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
From Nixon today
‘Burnley will let striker Ashley Barnes move on if they find a replacement
Experienced Barnes is seeing less game time this season and Vincent Kompany is prepared to allow him to move if he slips further out of the plans.
Clarets could also allow centre half Luke McNally move on loan for games if they bring in a more experienced replacement for the season.
Burnley are trying for Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge but the price is too high. They have already stepped back from bidding big for Coventry’s Viktor Gyokeres.’

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Ben Brereton Diez anyone?
They want 15 million reportedly. He'd fit into our system and from what I've seen would certainly be up to playing in the Prem.
That would cause a stir in East Lancs for sure

Re: January transfer window rumours.
The slight issue with BBD is that he’s not really a centre forward. He plays his best football off the left and when he’s played as a number 9 for Rovers he doesn’t have anywhere near the same impact. We need a number 9.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Burnley are seeking a striker with added competition up front their top priority this month. A host of players have been linked but it’s understood the Clarets are not interested in pursuing Sam Surridge at Nottingham Forest while they will be priced out of a move for Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres. Burnley made several offers for Michael Obafemi of Swansea on deadline day in the summer and remain interest in the Republic of Ireland international while the Clarets are also keeping tabs on Bristol City’s Antoine Semenyo.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
So both Surridge and Gyokeres unlikely then.
Wonder if Barnes’ performance yesterday has changed VK’s mind on letting him go anyway.
With him being out of contract at the end of the season, I still think it’s wise to bring in his replacement and get that player up to speed with the system prior to the Prem.

If we can’t get Gyokeres, which it sounds like we can’t, I’d like us to go for Stewart at Sunderland.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
His rumours are generic half the time from what’s posted on here - “Barnes might be allowed to leave if Burnley find an alternative” etc.
To get more subscribers he needs lots of stories. Half of them will either be made up or so vague that they hardly even class as news.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I mentioned him yesterday - was warned off by my Sunderland supporting mate he thinks a lot of him ha. But if Sunderland think they'll make the playoffs, I don't think £10m would be enough. 26 in 49 in League 1 and 35 in 68 overall for Sunderland (according to Wiki)

That is a rubbish article and obviously written by someone who has no idea that Ashley Barnes has played almost every match and is 2nd to Jay Rodriguez but assured of minutes.RVclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2023 7:58 amFrom Nixon today

They would not have seen him in action yesterday, either!
He is 10 of Surridge and much more of an eye for goal.

Can’t see McNally going out on loan. Most likely to pick injuries up as the season goes on. Need a big squad for this league.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
£15m for a lad who can walk for free in a few months they've no chance of getting anywhere close to that.
Burnley certainly won't pay that quite rightly, and any interested PL clubs will just hold off and sign him on a free when his contract expires.
As BBD is under 24 they may get a development fee, but it won't be remotely near £15m.

That Forest article is dodgy as we are clearly after a buy not a loan, and hence may indeed not have the cash.
