There are a few percussive guitarists worth listening to, Antoine Dufour being one of them.
If you like his playing, try Andy McKee

Jon Gomm (from Blackpool, but we'll forgive him for that!)

Newton Faulkner

Thanks for that, Maj. Have heard of McKee, but not the others.
Will have a good listen later on today.
Meanwhile of course this pair aren't bad either.

Is this what Darren Bentley would call Michael Duff if he ever got the managers job?

No doubt they were, mate.
Not that I envisaged that, of course.

Welsh guitarist John Morgan is very good too.
I would have linked his tune Benjo, except the YT vid has been removed.

Lots of Celtic influence in John Morgan's playing Redbeard. There's been a big trend recently for that style of guitar with altered tunings.

Whilst generally having a look around you tube following the above links, I came across
this :-

Have never seen anything like it before, has anyone else seen one of those ?

Fantastic player is Tony McManus. I teach another Claret who is also a big fan of his. At some point, we will be looking at this piece which is one of his faves.

Listening to these guys leaves me with alternative 1: why do you bother, you'll never be as good..or alternative 2: wow! where's my guitar!

Here's another I like from Mr McManus, then.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HGBN6qDBQM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Others such as his
Coast River, Johnstown Reel, Rolling Waves and
Thompson's Dirk sadly are YT-unavailable.

Have listened a bit now to each of those three, Maj, but tbh don't really dig Jon Gomm or Newton Faulkner.
Do like Andy McKee, however, though the French-Canadian still has it for me.
Thanks for the links all the same.
I wondered what you - or anyone else - might make of the guitarist in this unusual English folk band who plays mainly bass lines and along with the other instruments seems to leave no room for percussion at all.
