David Bowie - 10th January

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Jan 10, 2017 9:43 am

Doesn't seem a year since David Bowie passed away.

There is so much to choose from, I didn't know which song to select to link to so I just decided to search David Bowie in YouTube and choose the one that came first.

The Last Five Years documentary was on BBC last Saturday - repeated last night and will be on iplayer for a while.

Quite a bit of new footage / unheard commentary of Bowie.

The footage of him filming Blackstar whilst he is dying is quite unnerving and uncomfortable - but typical Bowie.

The documentary was a bit all over the place as it showed loads of old footage and not that much from the last five years as per title of programme - that said the old footage was brilliant and it's well worth a watch.

I ended up listening to the full Diamond Dogs album all weekend just to remind me of its brilliance.

Feels like yesterday when I heard the news of his death.

Diamond Dogs:

FUN FACT: Bowie recorded this in a studio but wanted it to sound 'live'. The sound of the audience at the start is in fact from a Rod Stewart concert and -if you listen carefully- you can just make out the sound of Rod yelling "Ayyyyy!" to his audience before the sound effect pans out.

It happens around the 10 second mark on the youtube link.

when you think of the dross that passes for talent thesedays,Bowie is a reminder of what the real thing is.
Last nights documentary was a good one too, well worth a watch.

Agreed. A proper unique talent. Can't believe it's twelve months.

Sooooooo much prefabricated dross out there. Kids, just bang "hunky dory" on and listen. Go on, treat ya self.

As great as Bowie was, and he was, there was plenty of dross around in his hay day too.

Conroy92..thanks for posting that. Five Years is a track that made a massive impression on me in my early teens and I still love it now. One of the best album openers ever..and a genius album of course.
Sadly missed.
