January transfer questions
Good evening.
A few questions.
1. Do you think we have identified our targets?
2. Do you think all our business (Joey aside) will be done on the last day of the window?
3. What would be your reaction if we didn't add to Joeys signing?

1. Yes
2. Possibly - because despite what some people think - that tends to lead to the lowest possible price
being paid in what is essentially an auction.
3. Disappointment - but I'm not seriously looking for more than one extra.

1. I blooming hope so, we've had long enough
2. No, I hope not or this site would implode
3. I'd be confused at best as this would be nonsensical. I'd have serious doubts over the ability of the recruitment team and question if they should be in a job or not.

Re: January transfer questions
1- I think so.
2- most likely, it seems to be the norm despite other clubs appearing to do a lot of theirs before the end.
3- amusement because I'd be watching this site implode.

1. Do you think we have identified our targets?
We have
2. Do you think all our business (Joey aside) will be done on the last day of the window?
I would suspect it will be late in the window. It was last time and allowed us to bring in a player we wouldn't have otherwise been able to sign. That, for a club like ours, is surely the way to do it.
3. What would be your reaction if we didn't add to Joeys signing?
Slightly disappointed, but would be more disappointed if we lost key players, that is the most important thing in this window. We don't want to be adding too many in any case.

1. Yeah probably. If Dyche has watched enough re-runs of the Euros
2. There's no advantage to it, but yes since we're Burnley. Might TestTheWater™ with a few bids a fraction of the asking price with a week and a half to go
3. I'll be very very annoyed. But not very very surprised.

Re: January transfer questions
1.) Yes, the targets will have been identified long ago
2.) It better not be because I couldn't handle the excitement of us trying to make signings and the Leicester game
3.) Stick a few more pins in my Mike Garlick voodoo doll

Re: January transfer questions
True . But we also need to be adding more quality to add to what we already have in key positions . Lets be honest we have had some cracking results and deserve to be were we are in the table . But we have also had some luck were results have gone our way . It wont stay like that forever . Lets get these players in and kick on from were we left out

Re: January transfer questions
Probably not, we've had 4 months since the close of the window, astounds me we aren't already strengthening in key positions having had so long
Almost definetly, it's the same every time, leave it the entire window then see what's out there (and as we saw with Grosicki we can find hitches late on) We've only had the full month though so why not leave it until the last few hours and no plan B!!
Cry at the prospect of Lowton Boyd and Arfield starting most games

Re: January transfer questions
A question regarding bringing in new players:
We can only name 25 (plus under 23's?), so we probably only have one space left.
Can we take unsold current squad members out to make room for incoming players?

Re: January transfer questions
Why would you cry tuddybfc?
All 3 players have been an integral part of the reason we are not in the relegation zone.
If we don't strengthen we have a team that has got us to where we are now.
I would rather we don't lose anyone than make a few silly signings that aren't going to help the cause.

Re: January transfer questions
1. Do you think we have identified our targets?
Most definitely...
2. Do you think all our business (Joey aside) will be done on the last day of the window?
Not so sure about the last day but certainly in the last week. That's a natural reaction to the fact that we're after players better than what we currently we have. This in turn means we're looking for players at bigger clubs who are likely not going to be allowed to move on until their club has got their reinforcements in (e.g. Schiederlin to Everton, Cleverley to us) and we have a trickle down effect.
3. What would be your reaction if we didn't add to Joeys signing?
Annoyed...I think we need a couple of new players in the squad. I think that this site will explode and the first home game after the deadline could have a very toxic feel!
As long as we keep hold of our key players though and don't lose anybody we'd prefer to keep then that'll be a good start.
Most definitely...

Re: January transfer questions
You get better for players for less money - which strikes me as the main point of a transfer system really.SGr wrote:

Re: January transfer questions
1. Do you think we have identified our targets?
Yes. Whether we have approached the relevant parties is a different question.
2. Do you think all our business (Joey aside) will be done on the last day of the window?
Probably. We seem to be led in our negotiations rather than taking control.
3. What would be your reaction if we didn't add to Joeys signing?
Deja vu. It's hard to get worked up when it would be a bigger shock that we did get our business done, rather than if we did not.

Better players? Errr no not necessarilykeith1879 wrote:You get better for players for less money - which strikes me as the main point of a transfer system really.
Less money? Wouldn't think so given clubs no longer have time to replace them
Re: January transfer questions
Clearly exaggerating a bit but the wingers especially are desperately below par and a decent crosser with pace is exactly what we're lacking and with having our best chance ever of survival it seems naive for us not to maximise our chances.Marlonspants wrote:Why would you cry tuddybfc?

Re: January transfer questions
1. Definitely
2. The reality is that unless we offer ridiculous money and wages that won't be matched by anyone else, our transfer dealings will have to be at the end of the window when the selling club and player will know what they can get. Only then, if our offer is accepted and the player wants to come, will we see any incoming movement.
3. Disappointed but confident we can stay up with what we have.

Utter bewilderment and fury at possibly blowing the best chance to stay up. In fact, if we don't add to Barton then I'll not log in here for a few weeksMarlonspants wrote:Good evening.

Re: January transfer questions
1. Its possible. The club conducts its dealings covertly so its hard to tell
2. Where's the fun if its not last minute! It will only be last minute if its a player in demand / who we REALLY want. Squad fillers are more likely to get done early.
3. I won't be surprised, maybe disappointed. We all like something new.

Re: January transfer questions
1. Yes.
2. Not all, and i slightly disagree with Tony here. Whilst i agree the focus should be on plsyers who immediately improve the first eleven, I'd like to think that we might bring in a player or two who, whilst not intended for the
Development Squad, is someone who is for the near future but isnt quite ready yet - particularly in departments where we lack a bit of depth. For example, a long term replacement for Marney (assuming Ulvestad is now written off - he was if course this sort of signing 2 years ago) , perhaps also a centre half to restock us when Keane leaves (what we did with Tarks last January) or a raw but quick winger. We're in a great position to invest and we should take it. These deals might go to the wire but there is less reason why they should.
3. Very disappointed. I'd be disappointed if we didn't bring in a marquee signing to strengthen our creative options, but even if that fails (and Tony is right that this can happen, and that keeping hold of our key players is more important - this group got 23 points from the first 19 games after all) there really is no excuse not to.add depth and options in key areas.

2. yes, certainly the last week and most likely the last day. A lot of the legwork will have already been done, its more a case of everything falling into place.
3. i'll be a bit disappointed but i think the current squad has enough about it to stay up. we'll need some luck on our side though, in terms of injuries etc.

Re: January transfer questions
Precisely - the only way to be sure of getting a specific player over the line at any time at all is to offer what the selling club and player cannot possibly refuse at that point. This will always (OK almost always) be less at the end of the window than early on for the simple reason that there is no longer a possibility of another club offering more.Grimsdale wrote:1. Re: January transfer questions
1. Without a doubt. The idea some people have that those responsible for recruitment sit on their hands until the last day of the window then start making desperate bids is idiotic.
2. I would expect the deals to be done on the 30th/31st January -Monday and Tuesday
3. Disappointed. Whilst the squad is generally strong we're a little short of cover in a couple of positions and short of creativity in general. We're in a strong position to add to the squad - much stronger than previous seasons in the top flight. We have more than a good chance of survival so there less risk attached to signing higher earners. Now is the time to push on and add the quality required to see us over the line and strengthen us beyond this season.
